Well let's see how things play out. I am also not that optimistic about how they salvage the ending at this point but so far HC hasn't been "on the scene" of any of YWY's evil deeds so it is too early to say that he is too stupid. That would be Lanhua and sorry to say BFX and HFX who were all there and didn't suspect him either. Does that also make them too stupid to rule?

Yeah unfortunately they wasted so much time developing Lanxi's arc that none of the other interesting characters are properly dimensioned. Its really funny bc TBW has the opposite problem - spends all its time on side characters and not enough on the leads.

I think YWY is made to be the ultimate bad guy so that HC doesn't end up to be so dark he is undeserving. But as far as HFX and BFX are concerned, peace is more important. That can not happen without a strong Emperor, one that unite the vassal states so that war doesn't constantly break out. Neither HFX nor BFX ever had that inclination, they discarded their royal identities to see the world they had no wish to rule it. As long as HC can keep the peace and really rule the world, I think that is good enough for our leads.

Sadly I have to agree that this is not the strong female-centric drama that was advertised. Unlike TLB, which was all about Changge's journey, WRTW is all about Lanxi's journey. I think it would have been fine if the ML's story was actually more interesting and fresh but no, it was just a dumbed down cut and paste job of the family melodrama that was Royal Nirvana. Having said that, we get such s shallow glimpse of Xiyun's kingdom that I can't even see what bits were cut out or sidelined to make way for Lanxi's story. I am starting to think maybe the book wasn't all that after all...
