- MAJOR SPOILERS AHEAD -

Because I'm obsessed with Suda Masaki in case you didn't already know I have seen W more times than I'm comfortable saying aloud lol and okay the thing about Kamen Rider is no matter how cynical you may be you will cry like a baby several times during any season. And for seasons like Amazon, W and Build its even worse. So honestly this season just has that nostalgia factor for me. But while Amazon is super dark, and Build is emotional and angsty, W is way more light hearted and then gets dark toward the end. But like I said throughout the season even plenty of dark stuff and messed up stuff is going on from Phillip's family being the worst family on the planet lol no exaggeration... the father made his own son and daughters part of weird experiments, had his son in law put through hell, and to top it all off, used his DEAD SON TO FURTHER HIS CRAZY CAUSE. And the mother is no different! She manipulated Accel into being powerful enough so he could be W with Philip FOR NO GODDAMN REASON and then manipulated HER OWN SON to go against Shotaro, once again FOR NO GODDAMN REASON lol So as families go, the Sonozakis do crazy like no other. So naturally because Shotaro loves Philip, it's painful to watch him struggling with self-doubt because first the son-in-law (who eventually became a good person but they killed him anyhow and it pissed me off but whatever), then Philip's sister, then his father, then the goddamed mother tries to break them up ffs talk about Family in law from HELL lol but bro have you seeeen Phillip lol he looks like an androgynous fairy how can you not fall for him hard. Ahhh okay enough rambling XD but yes I loveeee these two!

I LOVE how dark this is ! Build is one of my favorite Kamen Rider series and it's the kind of show where the characters make such an impact you can't get them out of your head and keep watching spin offs and fics lol
And I'm not ashamed to admit I have been in love with Rogue! Everything about him that near perfect facial hair, gorgeous long hair, just beautiful and a total hunk. So naturally I was obsessed with him and I was afraid this spin off might be disappointing or put me off one of my faves but no! ROGUE was excellent in every way! It's dark, brutal, downright gory! Just loved this look into what really went down behind the scenes with him starting from how Faust was actually his deal with the devil to the time he becomes a souped up Kamen Rider again.

Warning

This review is full of spoilers.

Korean crime drama all have the same trajectory - crime gets committed by good main characters which becomes entangled into something more evil, and then the real evil people are only there to justify the main characters role because 'I'm bad but not that bad' and then naturally they'll meet another character, possible shipping couple, and then you get unpalatable amounts of lecturing along the same lines 'don't do crime kids' and then the villain gets their comuppence. Everything from Watchers, Voice, to Psychopath diary, to Gap Dong, ALL follow this same pattern and no one besides me gets bored? Lol i dont understand!

The only ones that broke the mold -- WHITE CHRISTMAS. And HELLO MONSTER to some extent because at least it was obvious Jang naras character was being judgemental and self-righteous to some kid who grew up thinking that killing was the norm. But Seo in Guks character DID NOT which makes more sense and is more realistic because things change drastically when a sibling you think of as your own baby becomes a murderer. Even DUEL was extremely nuanced. Save Me. Children of Nobody. The Smile Has Left Your Eyes.

But that was years ago!

These dramas had nuance and complexity. I see this frequently in Jdramas like off the top of my head Aku No Hado, SCAM (Scum), Todome No Kiss, death note, Bokutachiga yarimashta, and even DYING EYE , again most of these are CURRENT DRAMAS or a year old at most.

But this preachy self-righteous lecturing really isn't the mature way to do things imo.

So, naturally this drama was no exception.

That said I was truly entertained watching this drama and Lee Ji Hoon s characters death gutted me. As did pretty much all the cast performance at some point. So I will say this, acting and direction was great no doubt. But the script was really just a very typical Korean crime drama.

So, not terrible but nothing memorable either. They kept killing people off because the story was just so bland so all the death of the brother and Lee Ji Hoon was so pointless! No character acts the way they were set up and the so called 'growth' felt more like the characters doing something really convenient to bring about a plot twist. Eh. Okay I'm done lol

I know this is being compared to Lost and coming from someone who used to be a die hard fan of the show at one point, when you grow after watching things like Lord of the Flies and Japanese fiction you find something like Lost very trite and lacking in complexity. Because any time you put a bunch of people stranded on an island the comparison is rather unavoidable. But apart from having some minor similarities with lost tbh personally you know what I was reminded of? BATTLE ROYALE. Which is basically Lord of the Flies Japanese version with teens instead of younger kids. The reason why you're stranded is never important in any of these masterpieces, the whole point is to tell a story that's sincere, raw, poignant and powerful and Stranded delivers on all these aspects. The characters portrayal is realistic, and the writing so honest you'll be an emotional wreck in no time. Something that gets lost when you 'Hollywoodize' any story. Not knocking on it if that's your taste, just feel like sometimes it's good to watch something like this, if for no other reason than to see things from a different perspective.

So, this is a great mystery and unpredictable plot will keep you guessing. It's a fresh new take on some scientific research that we always find intriguing and they really did it well. The acting overall is pretty good and I like the way it's shot. Pretty much visually appealing and when you find out what is really going on, you feel satisfied with the twists. The only thing I didn't like was the 'love' story, if you can even call what they had 'love' lol so yes it just didn't work for me. No matter how much the creators tried to convince me there just wasn't enough ' love ' or even bonding! Just two people saying things I couldn't feel. So, definitely should watch because the mystery part was good. But the romance didn't work for me.

This film is powerful. Pure art. I know it's not the sort that most people will get because it's not a guilty pleasure relief or melodrama, you can't 'ship' and expect trivial tropey dialog and sentiments, this is more like watching poetry. But if you do enjoy artistic poignancy and want to watch something with a little more meaning and depth, then please watch this one. The dialog is raw and honest and the love is always sincere and painful. Doesn't matter who you wanted the main character to end up with this film will teach you a great deal about love... and life. I don't like using words like ' literary tour de force ' at the risk of sounding like a paid review on a Dan Brown book jacket but I can't find any other words that fit.

This is what happens when you write about something you have no clue about and you don't even bother to get a better understanding of the subject. They wrote a makjang and went hey trans people are edgy these days right everyone is doing it so we'll add it without ever bothering looking up things like gender dysphoria or do any research on trans people whatsoever because we don't actually care about anything but catering to people who still think a 'woman' should look and act a certain way, and reinforce even more gender stereotypes while we're at it because patriarchy and gender roles don't hurt males too, right? RIGHT? ??? Look. I'm just going to say this. If you're going to add trans people to your fiction, by all means do so, but you need to do some basic research, and I honestly overlook minor misogyny and other problematic content, I don't need something PC either, I have loved and enjoyed plenty of things with problematic content because either the so-called 'problem' is slap and kiss or any non-con dub-con (or even gender roles, use of bad boys trope et al) for instance, and the show treats it like a kink, or the problematic things misogynist talk or gender roles are not being thrust in your face that frequently. I just can't watch something where EVERY OTHER DIALOG is either about someone telling her how to talk, dress, or reinforcing gender roles and she goes o sure I'll do this from now instead of setting the person straight. There was nothing 'kinky' about it, at least not for me lol and it was ALL THE TIME.

Pretty much the entire cast is made up of hot men (Lay, Ming En) but WIlliam Chan is HOT on another level XD lol seriously just watching him walk about in those outfits is enough to get your money and time's worth. But the thing about Chan is he's a great actor too so whether he's giving those stoic cdrama male lead vibes or doing action, or being hurt and tortured, he does it so well! This whole series is the main reason I have a viki plus subscription lol so like I said, you'll get what you paid for. Butttt I am going to say this one went a little not-so-great toward ep 22 after the big plot twist involving Lay's character. Basically when they go to the mines a second time not only was the direction and camera work lacking but so was the story but then it got interesting again but a few of the direction issues remained but I still didn't feel like dropping it.

And the action not going to lie is just really strange lol and over the top but I didn't mind because that's pretty much what this franchise is but imo this one and the movie with luhan are both too ott where the rest of the series are not so much. So, not my first favorite, but entertaining and as always the spectacular bromances will win you over. I really loved how Ming En's character was loyal to a fault to William Chan it was so beautiful to watch! But also the way Lay gets involved and the way Chan's character goes to dangerous lengths to save his wife. And okay you watch this series for the bromance I know but damned if I didn't shed tears for Lay and his wife because she was just the most beautiful person and their relationship was epic.

But tbh while I didn't hate Chan's love interest I wasn't exactly shipping them either lol not sure why. Maybe because my otp was Chan and Ming En or at least Chan and Lay XD and she kept getting in the way lol okay I will stop now lol

I know I'm in the minority here and you don't have to agree with my opinion but for me the biggest let down of this drama was Shi Yoon. And honestly nothing against the guy I just think this role just wasn't for him. Honestly that hoodie and hair style made him look like a Yang Se Jong reject. It's like someone told him to channel the actor and somehow he'd get it right? And when he did finally did start having his own personality toward ep 10 ish it was all still pretty disastrous. But I will say this, the reason I kept watching was definitely Sung Hoon and also the writing, while nothing special, provides for an entertaining watch at least. And the violence is done rather well but while the idea itself of a psychopath dairy was intriguing enough, the rest of the story was a very typical plot -- main lead gets framed for crimes he didn't do and then the villain is found guilty and gets his comeuppance blah blah.

Honestly it was just an average action flick with none of the nuance, gruesome violence, or anything that was not extremely predictable so I guess I'm rating a little higher because I'm loyal to the franchise. And the worst for me was Jang ki yong was legit wasted on this movie and the only two characters who had the biggest chunk of the action was Ma Dong Suk and Kim Ah Joong which both of them were fine considering there was not much to do. But why keep this Jang ki yong for such a forgettable, insignificant role? His character wasn't even properly fleshed out. Another thing that literally make me want to quit watching were the typical Japanese yakuza villains, and it was all the Japanese against 'our great nation' seriously it was done in such bad taste. Ugh. Total cringe. I can forgive such storylines in historicals (barely) but when you show cartoonist Japanese villains it's so petty and immature. Theres nothing wrong with having yakuza villains but don't make it about Japan then ffs and talk about Japanese history instead of yakuza history. So you see naturally the entire script was like this! Seriously lacking in complexity and meaningful dialog. Whatever ghostwriters they hired didn't have a clue how to write dark stories so it was just a bunch of mildly interesting action, ridiculous, tropey plotlines, and plain dialog. I mean even most of the action is not that great.

I can't believe it's Huta he looks like a different person and so mature! As for the drama loved the cast loved the way it was made but I just hate when they start writing a cheating type story and nothing ever actually happens and it's all a misunderstanding wtf is the point. It's really just half-assed.

It's not properly a melodrama and not properly a romance just somewhere in between because most of these scenes were with the different couples so in the start you're made to believe there's a lot of cheating going on so it will lead to some really good twist but the twist is THAT NOTHING HAPPENED LOL wtf.

And it wasn't surprising either because really all the 'twists' the way it was done I knew they were the type to just GO THERE. Buttttt some of the scenes were downright obscene lol like a guy practically jerking off and saying those obscenities and then NOTHING AT ALL.

But regardless it was an entertaining watch with a gorgeous cast.

This drama made me cry so much! !! But it also made me laugh my ass off. Seriously this one will offend a lot of people because of the mature content but I'm absolutely in awe that the creators didn't pull any punches and just went there. Most would have taken a safer route. I know it's heartbreaking to be faced with the harsh realities people, especially students have to go through, the things they have to do to survive.

How you can try and stay away from violence being meted out to others but violence has a way of going around. If you think you're safe one day the next day you might not be, so being self-preserving will not make you last forever. That's why you also have to form a society that values peace and takes care of one another because yes, that bully might be someone you resent but the truth is humans are capable of terrible things when they feel like they're on their own and no one will come to save them that's scientific fact.

Anyway seriously This show is WHACK perfect combo of dark humor and moving. And with more eye candy than you can possibly consume including but not limited to Yoshimura Kaito, Mackenyu, Kubota, Yamada Yuki and most importantly Mamiya Shotaro in a CRAZY role lol I've never seen him like this lmao but God it will hurt too so much. Hard not to fall in love with the characters. Especially Kubota and Mackenyu.

But okay I love pretty much all the men in the cast but two people that really stood out and I wished their roles were bigger -- Yoshimura Kaito (Smoking) and YUKI fudge sake looked HOT.

It was good in the beginning but even then it had its faults but I still wanted to watch it especially because of the cliffhangers in every episode. But then it was just some parts were good the rest would be lame but still I liked the characters and their bromance but after they basically reveal who God is the whole thing became boring because I couldn't be bothered to care about the storyline. Just not great and really lame but the first part was really good so I'm disappointed. The only good thing was the cast tbh.

SO SATISFYING RIGHT DOWN TO THE END.

The bromance is great with great suspense plot and backstories with ample disturbing content but naturally because it's TV it's not quite as gory but it's definitely dark and twisted.

And it's just so gripping! You won't be able to stop till you've finished.

I really liked the way the character arcs came together but the best part for me was the way they were always there for each other even when they've all suffered traumatic events. Just a great storyline overall.

Honestly good idea but bland execution. Most of the supporting cast was over acting and the camera work was nothing exceptional and the script was really good at times but it seriously lacked the darkness it promises in the first few episodes. The way they did the shop it was brilliant, and every arc surrounding that mystery was really good but the rest was lukewarm at best.

I mean all my favorite actors they ruined the viewing experience especially Fiats story line was such a mess! What were they even thinking? He went from being a perp to being a victim so there should have given some explanation for his obsession with Mek's sister Prang but he would just conveniently pop up and then gone and even the way they decided to end his arc was just ridiculous and a complete waste of an actor and BLAND.

It's a horror drama ffs! And you show everything offscreen?! Then don't call it horror! Then Mek and his sister I was really into their story and the Ploy - Supasit plot was seriously so STUPID it bugged me and that was like most of the drama so WHAT THE ACTUAL F. And Supersits character was OBNOXIOUS which is fine if you want a one dimensional villain but then he keeps going all soft in the middle for his daughter like WHAT. Why are you giving this waste of space more screen time and you're asking me to buy his bs after what he did to Ploy?

And all the vigilante nonsense was just as boring and pure nonsense.

The only reason I stayed after the Fiat debacle was because in the last few episodes the plot became Toni-centric. And like I said the writing isn't even an issue it's the way they added so much boring stuffing. But I have to say that ending was ON POINT without a doubt. Clever, unique and twisted. Which is more than I can say for the rest of the show.
