Well, in fairness, that sounds like a niche genre that most BL fans wouldn't be familiar with. It's certainly…
Yeah, it must be forbidden for BL fans knowing about anything out of the BL bubble. And yes, I know there are two things which never change: BL fans complaining for tropes and overused stuff and this whinefest from the same BL fans every time someone tries something oddball and bizarre. I should give up on reading comments from the BL fandom indeed.
Those lambasting this show for the dubbing are clearly not familiar with the concept. It makes an attempt to revamp the classic burlesque style with each character speaking in the same shade of tone, possibly by the same voice-over actor, as well as the occasionally speeded up tempo. It also helps to take it as a travesty only as it was clearly intended. Another confirmation I should neglect this site.
Hong Kong has made several BLs already in the past few years and loads of LGBT-themed movies since the mid 90s.
Apart from those above, there is a lovely miniseries Love That Dare Not Speak Its Name. I'm a Fool for You indeed has 3 seasons and hopefully the guys come up with a 4th. As for LGBTQ cinema, Scud and Kit Hung are probably the best known filmmakers, you can check out their output. One of the first internationally acclaimed gay Hong Kong movies were Happy Together and Bishonen.
The actors faking straight sex in the first scene and pretending to smoke cigs and drink booze seemed to have…
Aof Noppharnach Chaiyahwimhon, Jojo Tichakorn Phukhaotong and Aam Anusorn Soisa-ngim, just for an example. 3 prolific male Thai BL directors who are openly gay. But there are many more.
We get the BLs we think we deserve. Super curious about your thoughts on the show actually.
To me it was a heartwarming and interesting exploration of two soul-searching and imperfect Asian guys with different upbringing trying to reach out to each other and temporarily failing because they both have a lot to learn, grow, mature and heal. It was nicely shot, well-acted and reasonably brightly written for all that, conveying some important messages and giving some interesting aspects of different cultural backgrounds. There were things obviously and inevitably rushed, and I am quite sure that is due to the limited budget of the production team. Tastes are different and each to their own, but in general kisses, skinship and immaculately happy fairy tale ending are all most BL fans care about, and this show delivers none of those. And I do have a safe bet that most of those trashing it are pissed for those reasons.
I didn't really like it as much as I expected to. Even though everyone shared their traumas, the whole thing came…
Both seasons of His Man are far more superficial and the participants are far less open than they were in this one. As much as I like that Korean dating show, both seasons are pale shadows of this one despite their much higher budget.
Edgy, magnetic, tightly written 2 character chamber piece with a cleverly constructed narrative filled with suspense and surprises. Stunning performances from Romnick and Elijah. Certainly not for the less complicated minds.
It never ceases to amaze me to what extent some viewers require spoonfeeding by characters to speak up their emotions just because they are too dense to read from them.
Joshua is clearly attracted to Andre and his sarcasm is clearly a defence mechanism as he was obviously hurt and heartbroken in his previous relationship. If that is not clear for you after 4 episodes then you are a lost cause. Sorry not sorry.
