I was there to see a relationship between two actors but got an intense story about sacrifice, trauma, dedication and suffering instead. I felt so sorry for Dieyi, his whole world was already small but it crashes and burns. I never knew I'd care this much about Chinese opera.
Unless they somehow manage to release it abroad this is never gonna come out. We are living in a post-ban world meaning that unless some BL-fans get into the Chinese government we'll never see such content from China again. Luckily there's still Taiwan.
In my opinion this is an underrated drama but I can also see why it is that way. I won't give any spoilers beyond what's in the summary. So the first episodes you have the male main lead (Tae Seong) just doing his prosecutor job. He thinks he is a good person while lying to people, being paranoid, endangering lives, prioritising his job over his marriage/romance, has no emotional attachments and he has some severe daddy-issues. He goes undercover alone as Nam Hae the bodybuilder at the mob-family intending to catch a criminal.
So then he loses all his memories and of course this does help since it takes away his job and dad-pleasing obsession but he's still a jerk to others and paranoid as this is his personality. His lies all come crashing in on him as the only people who know him are the lovely but weird mob-family and they allow him to stay thanks to the female lead. So as his family thinks he is dead, he takes up the role of Nam Hae while still trying to find his origins.
The next episodes are heartwarming and hilarious if you think about how far he's gone from his original mission. At first he still doubts the mob-family but he starts to realise that the label that's put on them doesn't make them bad people as he discovers more about himself. I think what kept me hooked was how he would react once he found out since he falls deeper and deeper into his role of the emotionally open Nam Hae.
There won't be a Part 3 now - ALL LGBT projects have been banned in China now. the only hope they have is to go…
Well, the situation since then has certainly changed but not in a way anyone wanted. Now we just all sit inside for a while/avoid contact until the gift from Wuhan has lost its grip on humanity. Also, yea I miss the glorydays of 2016 and 2017 when China was reaching new highs with LGBT only for them to ban it all soon after. Now Chinese people (especially the BL/danmei community) just get their stories from written novels and their dramas from Thailand/Taiwan.
No problem, glad I could help! I managed to watch the series without subs (I only understand a few mandarin words) and understand its plot but I normally would've waited as well. I did it for the bromance moments but I also love the body switching trope if done correctly. In my opinion this series does make it interesting up to episode 13. They don't do a big reveal of the body switch either which was unfortunate to me (won't give details beyond that as to avoid spoilers).
This has got off to a good start. I see that it shows some of the hallmarks of "new improved" m/m romance stories…
It's because of SOTUS, the male-dominated engineering study is just a popular place to choose as a setting. You could choose a different setting but engineering is just the most popular choice and always recognisable from the jackets and the gears.
It's definitely not a drama for those who have a strong need for logical plotpoints. The logic behind the story…
Yea for me the way they fall in love is not as important as how interesting the drama makes the story. I've watched series where the part of falling in love takes ages but also those where it takes one look. Well, this is getting offtopic though. I understand your point and respect your opinion.

Well... I like 10-20 year old kdramas (sure they're cheesy but it's comforting to watch sometimes) so I guess in that case it may just be a difference in taste. The romance made my heart flutter multiple times when they crossed the border because I knew the significance that the border holds for Korean people and the symbolism they were portraying. Captain Ri also got my heart when they show him shooting at the killer-truck on his motorbike. I agree that Seri's friendship with the guys was one of the highpoints of the series though. I personally didn't like the second couple as much and often skipped their scenes up until the last episodes.
So I guess I am in the minority but for some reason I couldn't enjoy this drama as much as others did..I usually…
It's definitely not a drama for those who have a strong need for logical plotpoints. The logic behind the story was never meant to be one of the strong points of this series. If you want logic in your drama, go watch crime/law/medical dramas. I personally can switch off my need for logic in dramas if the series can prove that it shines in other parts. The human connections in this series, the cultural jokes and the sweet love story was enough for me to stay.
