First scene made me wonder what to expect for the rest of the show. But its actually a pretty calm show and really does its work quite well in discussing the topic of pregnancy even though its through the male lense so different. Its an alternate universe but uses the topic to address issues of our world too. All in all pretty good show.
Some of the comments in this comment section is kind of ugly. I've started noticing more bigoted commenters cropping…
If I am to make a guess here... Its likely cause of the influx of international viewers from Netflix. Whenever a show releases without much attention within Japan usually only those actually aware of the synopsis and themes will check it out since it takes effort to get a raw or find a fansub.
For Netflix it takes zero effort to watch something which invites a diverse amount of viewers including those who have no idea what they're getting into when clicking something. This show won't be for everyone but I really liked that Japan went out to do this social commentary-type show and it has my bias saitoh takumi.
I think its one of those cases where the actress plays a male role. As in, the audience is supposed to see them as a male character. So storywise that would mean no but it is a romance portrayed by two actresses.
No English subs from what I saw. Not a GL tho for anyone wondering from that poster. Anyway I assume the ep 13 OST got partly copyright claimed cause they just played country-music during a battle.
This drama is dear to my heart. I understand the critique about the female lead but I also liked that she didn't have the typical reactions one would expect of someone who just had their fantasy fulfilled. It felt like she had lost all colours in life and that's not something thats just easily fixed. Its not supposed to be an isekai-like story of escapism, its very rooted into the real lives of the characters.
For me this story went beyond the fantasy to tell a story about how the fictional can support us in real life. Yeah its a silly story but its also lovely. Nagase Tomoya was perfect for the role, I can't see any other actor filling that role.
