Now B&R to summarize is basically a parody of a typical old BL-plotline but with some absurdist elements added for comedy-sake. I think if you watch it with that context it can work but of course it is a product of its time. Because if we look back, some BL-content of the past was also kinda cringy and this show just uses that for comedy purposes.
Total amount of episodes for B&R is 46, good luck hunting them down before copyright gets to it. But I'm sure there's a few random uploads you can find.
If someone wants to know the general storyline that was gathered from the B&R show, check spoiler.
Bibari & Rui (Louie) meet when Rui applies to a job and Bibari is his interviewer, this is shown in the special episode 0.
The general storyline is that Bibari & Rui are at work and Bibari wants to tear open Rui's dress shirt cause he's into that I guess. But every time Bibari tries this, someone disturbs the two (usually the female side-character) Bibari then tries to cover the situation and Rui gets angry. That's the main comedy skit.
So there are larger story components of which the first is Bibari getting amnesia and thinking he's straight for a few episodes. This gets resolved when one of many exes of Bibari visits called Leon, he reminds Bibari that he is into male chests basically.
There's also another longer storyline where I think Rui believes he's terminally ill which gets quite dark but this gets resolved by a doctor guy which leads to the next story-arc/season where they changed the general set-up. Now there's random Japanese male celebrity cameos who basically form rivals for Bibari and tear off the dress shirt of Rui.
Then there's the final episode which plot basically is similar to the old set-up of someone disturbing them during the shirt-rip ritual and Rui getting pissed off. But in this one Bibari ignores the disturber and then makes love to Rui in front of the female side-character. Which is a pretty good ending to the series even if it's still kinda played for comedy.
Well, green shirt guy and yellow shirt guy are definitely into each other and they know of themselves that they like each other. But it will have to be revealed whether or not the couple actually lives to have that romance
The filming locations and aesthetics alone could carry this series. But the emotions of the actors are so vivid as well. Really worth a watch
The whole time I was rooting for them to let go properly and find their own happiness, a theme which will resonate with a lot of people as letting go of someone you love is one of the hardest things to do. But this show made it look like even in that process there was something beautiful even though it was faulty.
So delinquent guy survived! Big plottwist, but he limps away after having been saved by the main couple. Leaving only blonde guy and the main couple together.
For some reason Gakuto of main couple thinks its a good idea to go explore, blonde guy goes with him. Blonde guy asks Gakuto straightforward if he likes main dude Soya upon which we get confirmation that he does. The two then walk away into the distance.
In the meanwhile main dude Soya has been decorating the hangout place and wants to take a nap when he finds a red note. The red note is from Gakuto and describes feelings stuff about Soya like ''Meeting you was fate''.
Anyway then blonde guy comes running in, something happened to Gakuto. Blonde guy reminds Soya of his feelings and main dude almost dies but gets saved by blonde guy. Blonde guy decides to sleep and says Gakuto will surely come back. Main dude Soya dreams of blonde guy separating him from Gakuto. Then they go search for Gakuto and find him laying on the floor and not responding :( Main dude Soya is very sad.
Blonde guy is seen in preview clowning on main dude but delinquent guy also seems to return the next episode to cause some stuff to go down.
Delinquent guy and his orange-shirt follower has the guys play a ''tokimeki game'' to kill either of them which includes... Winking to each other, Collapsing the others knees from behind, Air kabedon. Our green-shirt ML almost dies due to emotional feelings of the loss of glasses guy/tachibana. But he is saved from a suggestion of orange-shirt follower, who lowkey betrays his delinquent guy leader doing this.
The main couple retreats again having survived the short-lived tokimeki game. Orange-shirt guy visits them and they start planning to just legit kill delinquent guy since he has been such a danger to all of them. Orange-shirt guy mentions the delinquent guy has a brother-complex. They try to sneak up to delinquent guy but he approaches them from behind. Green-shirt guy grabs him and they start tickling delinquent guy till he collapses. He says ''I will go over there now brother'' (his brother is dead) and dies rip.
Now it's just orange-shirt guy and main couple left. And there's a sense from the preview that orange-shirt guy is going to be the next trouble for main couple. Orange-shirt guy does say in the preview ''Do you two like each other?'' which is hopefully a sign of progression of the romance.
What can I say except once again iconic episodes. Yes some factors of it are unrealistic, which is for the sake of the comedy and romance. Having the ML have a gullible-side makes him endearing as long as he makes up for the gullibleness with other good characteristics and he certainly does. It balances out the FL making extremely little effort to keep hidden too lol.
The acting is also not supposed to be focused on realism but on providing comedic moments, especially in the first half of the story where we are lured in to get comfortable. Don't worry we will get the sad moments in due time.
I am happy to hear that many people are enjoying the story more now, friendship-group dramas just take a bit of time to get you bonded with the group and after that its usually fine. It brings back the memories of Sungkyunkwan for me every time and I feel its a privilege that we get to see a similar show in the year of 2024.
