Yup most people who speaks mandarin doesn't understand Cantonese unless you have lived there for some time and pick it up. And I'm assuming that was the case with DQ. He understands Cantonese but he's not a native speaker.

Not sure what you mean by non-native Cantonese. Cantonese is mainly spoken in Guangdong and HK but most people will know Mandarin as it's the official language of China. HK was under the British colony before 1997 hence, English mixing in with Cantonese is common in HK but after 1997, Mandarin has more influence. Hope this makes sense.

I think she and the FL knew each other in the States so it's more comfortable talking in English but she spoke Mandarin to the men because it's their native language. That's my guess but the languages used in this drama is weird though. It's not like Hong Kong, where it would be mainly Cantonese, then Mandarin and English.

Mandarin is the official language so most Cantonese speakers understand Mandarin but not the other way around.

I don't know what dramas you've been watching but I always find the MLs portrayed in c-dramaland have way better characters than FLs in dramaland. They let FLs get away with so much shit and the MLs still end up being the one to grovel and please them.

I don't understand this about giving up college exam? I never heard they have to pay to take college exams. So why can't she just take the college exam but not go to university yet? or you had to go in the same year you took the exam.

Sadly, she's not so young when it comes to entertainment industry, unless you're a big star, approaching 30 is considered old for getting main roles in big budget dramas. I think she should just stay with small budget main roles. Isn't MGWAA small budget, then it became really popular.

Lusi's crying scene on ep 4 was really good. I think that was one of her best acting.
