From what I found out by now, in the book Lord Wei dies and stays dead and the emperor is a part of something very evil that split itself into pieces. From what I've seen in the drama, the producers may want to keep alive Lord Wei character and they may or may not follow the splitting. At this point they made the main antagonist the man in black (XQA's father). The drama may end with a battle between XQA and his father or may pursue with the idea of a higher evil entity to be taken down in battle at the end, either in 1-1 battle, either with killing the man in black as the last split. No matter the way the drama goes, it still makes a lot of sense.
