I read this novel two years ago so what i remember is-
In the novel his mother was too pretty woman that nobody can't forget ,his father went in relationship with her mother ,but his parents were from different area .

His father promised to come back but he was a scum ,he betrayed her.But his mother didn't believe it at first ,she was pregnant with the sml before marriage which is definitely shame according to that time.His mother came to capital to find his father but a man sold her into a brothel where she had to go through many abuse ,Even she poured her anger into her son at sometimes by hitting him.
Then there was a time when the sml's father learnt about his existence but they cant let other's to know about his mother ,so they killed his mother in front of him when he was little .His mother actually though that they are going to take both of them ,she was happy with the though that she is going to meet his father but who though they actually came to kill her.
His family take him because he was too good looking like his mother and also talented so he can be used as a pawn to make them of their family .
After he came to Chu Family ,he was abused by other's ,Only when he was accepted as a student of xu jingfu ,his life become better .After that he became Xu jing fu's fav student .So you can see that's why he is in their team .But minister Xu saw him as a chess piece as well, which the sml knows very well.So He grew up with the thought of being selfish .His main goal
is revenge and survival from this game .So he is not loyal to anyone .He can sacrifice anyone for his own survival .He is now with them but in future if there is a case that he had to betray them ,then he will do it.But the drama version changed many setup so i don't know how will they portray him .

Some people said they did this because there are many watchers who likes rivalry scenes but this doesn't make right to me .There was no need to drag this triangle.

i think the syndrome they are talking isn't about triangle ,it's most probably because the sml has some story ,some hated him at the same time some felt bad for him .Also the actor gains many fans last year so it's most probably his fans
