Hmmm Netflix promoting this show to me, probably because i am watching the Double right now and quite liking it. Is this show in the same vein ,?i.e. closer to historical or do you have fairies and devils zapping lightning bolts at each other?
The director has structured this drama like a play within a play. I'm sure you noticed all the weird close-ups…
😥 Phew. That was educating for this Philistine here. I'll definitely be more observant. The only "opera" I've seen are those hungry ghost month shows when I was a kid. This banana here could never understand what the actors are saying or follow the story (probably from Romance of Three Kingdom?) All I wanted to see were the fighting scenes and the change of the backdrop scenery,
The latest episodes in Netflix are a bit weird. Why does the director break the third wall by letting the governor of Luyang and his henchman go into Chinese opera mode? Is this common in cdrama?
Also they should let use less makeup on the FL? She actually looks younger ad prettier in the drunken rain scene.
Netflix subtitles say the heroin goes to LUYANG in the latest episodes drop. I can't read or catch the subtle pronunciations in Mandarin but are they actually referring to the ancient capital of Luoyang? Doesn't add anything to the story but just want to know since I'm a bit of a historical buff.
No age shaming. She is at her prime as an woman and looks like a refined lady. Just not young enough to portray…
To be honest, all the argument about realism is moot. We certainly don't know how people looked like in the medieval age. They certainly have shorter life expectancy. Our youth and beauty judgment are biased towards the modern age, where ladies have access to the best medical care, expensive cosmetics [ and plastic surgery too :-) ].
I wish people would stop age/body shaming the FL. The make up artists failed her with the orange eye shadows,…
No age shaming. She is at her prime as an woman and looks like a refined lady. Just not young enough to portray a teen girl just past puberty. But then , as someone here said, guys are not suppose to fly around violating gravity. So I'll give the director a pass and just watch and imagine she's 16-17.
I think jtbc probably did not invest much marketing resources to this show.the publicity is non existent. No preview photos , videos anything. Compare this to TVN Queen of Tears where there is information overload ad nauseum every week while it's airing.
I went to see the music video clip. I have a hard time trying to recognize the FL in the video.
Nah..i think the make up department in this show did a good job. Her character is suppose to be down and out and lack confidence, not a bubbly cute idol.
So the old veteran was murdered by the old doctor? It's too obvious isn't it. And why doesn't min ji mom recognize Im sun if the bank co worker did? Interesting..
As an aside, as I watch the series, I kept thinking the FL would be perfect for the role of Mao Mao in a live action remake of the Apothecary Diaries Anime (if that ever happens). She has her appearance, serious intellectual beauty, very big eyes, quite thin and diminutive enough. Just needed to be younger though.
I just read they substituted the FL voice? I mean what the heck for, this is not a musical. I've seen her in clips of that famous Qin Dynasty drama. Her voice is perfectly normal.
how does the old lady work there with no id? no social security? no bank account informations? no job application…
I'd first ask how she can biogically turn into an old lady in an instant. I mean with fantasy themed kdramas, I won't even bother bout logic. Like what the Daoist says, just go with the flow.
Also they should let use less makeup on the FL? She actually looks younger ad prettier in the drunken rain scene.
