I speed watch a bit till ep12. The leads are good and the story is ok. But as often with this genre, story drags a bit, too much time is wasted on the xianxia CGI sequences and gobledegook. Also the cgi is a bit pathetic even by cdrama standards. Might as well use muppets for those birds.
Did this show do better than Joy of Life 2 in China? I'm going to watch that series after this one finishes because the first season was the best cdrama I've ever watched.
This is a slow burn romance but there is no petting in the drama. So, in my opinion, this drama is very romantic.
Agree, Oppa Austen style! I rather hope the main couple do not perform those kdrama "goldfish" kiss. I am only midway through the drama so fingers crossed.
Just finished the latest Netflix drop. So, the emperor's name is Zhao Ye, that is basically the Song emperor's family line. Why don't they just situate the drama in the Song dynasty rather of the fictional Yan? It's not like the Song dynasty would sue for copyright infringement.
I read a comment saying (I paraphrase) they hope he has someone more his age in his next show because here she…
For me. no age issue with FL and ML. They look compatible. Age gap was only obvious between FL and her maid. But that is because the actress playing the maid is actually 15 years old! So, actress portraying Xue Fan, perfectly okay as she's a married 20 something but trying to fool Yan Ling parents as a 16-17? That's a bit of a tall order. The real Yang Ling actress is more believable as a teen. Maybe it would be better if they had chosen older actresses to play the maid and real Yan Ling. Note I speack with a modern bias. We don't really know how people really age in ancient times.
Getting a bit confused now with the cities name, what is the name of the fictional capital of the Great Yan dynasty? Is it the one with the famine (forgot name) in the "FL rescue real dad" arc?
watching the latest drop by netflix. Is Xue Fang's "corrupted" city a film studio set like most of them or real city? It's beautiful with the canals etc..., a bit like Venice,
Wow, the actress playing FL maid is really 15 years old. She will be playing a 9 year old Teng Li Chin in upcoming drama. That's why I can't help but get a little sister and elder sister vibe whenever I see them together in this drama.
Must be recent rule because I've just watch direnjie drama on netflix this year and it's explicitly based on wuzetian and tang dynasty.
