I only partially agree. The new rule with exceptions have destroyed LLTG and Lost You Forever. Till The End of…
They need to do better adaptions then. Like when BBC do adaptions of Jane Austen novels. A lot goes to the cutting floor to restrict the story to 5 or 6 episodes. We can't have every romance scene from the novel. It must sound like blasphemy for you experience watchers and novel readers. Historical cdrama productions quality is very high now, better than saguek kdramas in my opinion. It's just that I find in many of them, the story meanders so muc that I get bored quickly. And its the general opinion of people around me. Maybe we a need directors cut for dummy cdrama watchers(me!) version lol,
No no no no. Not every tale can be told in 25 hours. The Story of Minglan and Story of Yanxi palace would not…
Hmmm ... I think spreading out the story over a few seasons just like in American or Western TV could be a possibility, there must be some reason why Chinese TV don't do it, my guess financial and getting the actors to buy in. My wife and I considered watching Yangxi palace too, but when we saw the number of episodes, we said maybe when we have retired.
As I wait for the final episode dump by Netflix, I realize that I've only ever manage to complete two cdrama series without actually skipping episodes or dropping them completely i.e.. The Double and Joy of Life, and that's because both are masterpieces. Even LLTG, I skipped about 5-6 episodes toward the end. In The Double, in mid series, during "The Search for Dad" arc, my attention wavered a bit. The bane of Chinese dramas is the length of these series. It takes a lot of stamina and commitment to completely finish a series. I think the China censors would do well to limit cdrama series to 25 one hour episodes at most, rather than 40. It would improve the quality and pacing. The only drama that really deserves 40 episodes is JOL.
You can watch secretly, she doesn’t have to know it 🤭🤥😜
She's in binge mode and hogging the TV till early morning hours. I don't have her stamina , waiting for her to collapse.kids are also complaining but they don't mind using smartphone.
Dang, Netflix new drop (31-35) today but can't continue. Wife started watching the Double two days ago, she's up to episode 16 but won't allow me to use the TV because that will give away the plot. Have to wait for her to catch up as both of us don't want to watch on small smartphone screen.
The Double: in 47 days 16,111 watchers! The Legend of Shen Li: 15,138 in 120 days!!Long live, The Double!
This being a very good show and appearing on Netflix internationally helps, I think. Would be interesting to see how the graph shifted once it appeared on Netflix.
Love like the Galaxy? Revenge plot on the ML side. The male character and his two sidekicks are very similar to…
There could be more skinship. I mean you guys don't just watch shows for kisses only right? You don't need them, it's more titillating without them To be honest.
Xiao Heng couldn't die because of rules of combat in ancient china, here the discussion on the boar: https://mydramalist.com/discussions/di-jia-qian-jin/126975-the-ending-explained-according-to-the-book-the-art-of-war
I don't think by the (medieval)period of this drama, there were any rules except to win. Any chivalric rules were gone by the Warring States period. In ancient set piece battles, the loss of the commander usually resulted in moral collapse of the army, it's like the head has been severed from the army. One of the most famous example was when Alexander charged into the Persian center at Gaugamela. The Persian king, Darius fled and the whole army collapse even thought they were much more numerous that the Greek army.

Ah thanks. I was wondering what the civet cat reference was all about. So many layers of subtilities, difficult for non mandarin speaking/writing audience to catch.
I guess the producers decided to play it safe since the Chinese gov censor can be unpredictable. I think LLTG also did not mention the dynasty explicitly, (i.e. early days of Eastern Han). I remember the one series based on the Song explicitly is the one starring the Mulan actress (splendored something title ) . I learned there, was how crazy the Song was for designer tea.

To be honest.
