Rewatching this drama. It is such a masterpiece... I just watched Prisoner of Beauty but sadly it really doesn't…
I'm about to finish Prisoner of Beauty. I honestly feel the same, just opposite dramas. LLTG is beautifully directed, and the actors are amazing. It deserves to be high on the ratings list. However, it is also very long, tedious, and filled with political nuances that can be difficult to grasp every time you watch it.
I imagine that for native Chinese viewers, it might not be as challenging. But as a Westerner, I found it to be a bit overwhelming, even though I’ve watched historical dramas for years, including ones like Yanxi Palace.
I feel very mixed about this. I had a hard time finishing this, and wasn't interested enough to start the second season. Somehow, this just wasn't tickling what I needed at the time. I am willing to give this another try in the future, but not anytime soon. It's not my first Zhao Lu Si drama, but it's always a bit hard to get used to her voice. I also didn't particularly like how stiff the ML was. Don't get me wrong, he's a great actor, but something about his role in the story wasn't quite doing it for me. The first episode dives you right into the mess, and it's hard to keep everything in check (remembering everything) when you don't watch consistently.
is the male lead a red flag? or just a little cocky, i'm at the beginning of ep1 and the way he and his ... colleague…
It's not an easy drama to get into. A lot happens in the first episodes, but then it slows down into more a a slice of life. No, the ML and FL have a healthy relationship and speak to each other. They are very natural around each other. So much so that at times it feels out of place, and sometimes even too modern for ancient China. I recommend picking it back up as soon as you have the chance!
This was such a beautiful story—a tale of sisterhood, life struggles, and love. It had a 'slice of life' feel…
If there is one thing that kind of bugged me throughout the series was how 'modern' the mains' relationship was. But at the same time, they have such a healthy relationship that I don't even really care how accurate it is compared to the time setting. They had a way of being so natural around each other.
I watched this a year ago and stopped at ep 17 and haven't gone back ( i want to just didn't get the time, i saw…
In my opinion, MDL ratings tend to be a bit lower than I prefer. I gave this a rating of 9.0 as soon as I finished the series. I believe this drama deserves to fall between 8.5 and 9.0.
Definitely finish watching this! I know how hard it can be to get back into a series, but this is so worth it! The main leads have such a healthy relationship.
This was such a beautiful story—a tale of sisterhood, life struggles, and love. It had a 'slice of life' feel at certain points. The direction and cinematography are immaculate. If you are looking for a good, lengthy drama full of meaningful scenes and beautiful messages of female empowerment, this is worth watching.
is this show really that good to have 9 rating????
I can't speak for everyone, but this drama is a masterpiece in my eyes. I am not quite finished with it, but I easily give it a 9, and hopefully a 9.5 when I complete it. If you enjoy historical fiction/enemies-to-lovers, this is right up your alley.
On episode 10. Hands down the best drama of 2025, and among the best dramas that I've seen. And I have seen a generous amount. The actors, cinematography, costumes, and script (among many other things) are phenomenal. I have not finished it, but I know I will not be disappointed. So glad I picked this up!
Wow, the same director also made The Legend of Shen Li, which is my most favorite Chinese drama from the last…
Oh my God, I didn't even realize! I LOVED Legend of Shen Li, and when I picked this up, I couldn't help but feel there were some strong similarities in approach and style. Now I know why! This director keeps making masterpieces one after another. 👏🤧
I'm only on ep 15 and Wei Shao's mother is on my last nerve. What is wrong with her? If you can't help your son…
Unfortunately, her character falls most miserably into the 'evil-mother-in-law trope,' but it works very well with the story, so I'm not complaining, lol!

It wasn't too stressful to watch, but enough to keep you seated, lol!
