In the novel it was because he had an affair with her sister. He considered Yeli beneath him, and in the novel Yeli was considered talentless and not beautiful as compared to her sister. The drama does it differently. My guess is he and his family has ambitions. Yeli's paternal family has no love for her, but only for her sister, so if ever needed backing they would do it for Ye Ying's husband. Plus Yeli has a connection with Lishan, which has fallen and was considered in odds with Empress Dowager. Hence the swap. As per preview and teaser, we would know that in tomorrow's episode I guess.
I think they only accepted this arrangement because of who they are and the interactions they had in the past…
There for sure is agenda, but that doesn't mean Yeli is not giving everything in this marriage. Issues with her sister in law, nephew, caring for her husband, she can chose to ignore all of that, and solely focus on her revenge. But she wants to become a wife. MXY didn't want to be a husband, but now he is caring, smiling, listening to her, going to her shop to pick her up. They are forming a natural bond. Yeli would have married anyone to get off that mountain, she even told MXY that she was grateful to him for marrying her because only then she could escape and gain freedom. But their marriage is still beautiful, really unique in cdramaland.
Also we got their first hug. Half hug in the carriage and a full hug in the backyard. And they were so natural, absolutely not being awkward about it. Beautiful❤️. Also, in episode 6, when she got got reprimanded by MXY for cutting down the tree, she tucked his sleeves, and was pulling it cutely to apologize to him, and his ears turned tomato red.🤭🤭

But when she married MXY and saw him for the first time (after growing up), she thought to herself " Perhaps I understand my mother now". When she gave him the pastries, she told him her name, told him if he remembered her, he saved her before. So he recalled her saving incident because it maybe few months back. The pastry thing stayed with him forever because he was grateful They all were from prominent families. When he knows her name, he does know her family and everything. He could recall her easily.
I have not seen a lot of arranged marriage tropes in costume c-dramas. But out of whatever I have watched, mostly they hate each other, only are concerned about their motives, have 300 misunderstandings, and are cold to each other, and have nothing except a tension which looks beautiful chemistry. But this is really my first drama, where the arranged marriage couple are acting like one. They are trying to form a bond. And its not due to sudden attraction, sudden falling, saving, sudden skinship, but actually knowing each other, trying to find each other's problems, trying to solve them (for sure FL is more on that as of now). But it really looks natural, genuine and sweet. Like later in episode 30-35 when we wonder when they fell in love, we would have countless moments to recall. I love their interactions. Pure Gold! I don't know how the drama would be till episode 40, but I will remember this drama for showing a real genuine couple.

They have released it. Its just for SVIP its episodes 6 and 7. For VIP its episode 5 and 6. All the other sites generally follow the VIP schedule, but sometimes, if you wait for few hours you get them, otherwise its sometimes the next morning.
