Exactly! And that's why I struggle with how the writer of this show drew such clear connections to Asimov's laws!…
It seems people are having the wrong idea that your article is saying that the show is bad. Clearly that isn't what you meant. This is a show that is definitely worth watching and those who are watching shd give it a try!! XD

I'd still recommend you to give the drama a go and then see for yourself whether or not you agree with the article.
It's actually 18 one-hour long episodes which is the normal length of a kdrama

Maybe the hugging law is a standalone law that doesn't get compared with the rest. That might explain what happened in ep.30

Concluding what I have mentioned in my other comment as well as your article, I think this is the order of NS3's laws:
1. Protect Kang So Bong
2. Do not hurt humans/Save humans in danger unless it conflicts with the 1st law
3. Pretend to be NS3/Do not get caught unless it conflicts with the 2nd law
+
Hug someone whenever they cry --> hug only when they want him to (I don't know where I should put this law but I guess it's either at the end or somewhere in the middle)

NS3 does not follow the law of robotics but it does seem like he is following the above rules from top to bottom a majority of the time

--Contains spoilers mentioned in the article--

Despite how much I'm loving this drama, I'd have to agree with you that sometimes the laws confuse me. I do try to come up with my own explanations to fill in as many holes as possible though. My thoughts about NS3 pushing Yena or making phones explode is due to the fact that protecting So Bong is his *first* priority, meaning that it probably overrides everything else including harming people. In the later episodes, he continues putting other humans at risk whenever they put So Bong in danger. He protects So Bong at all costs even if his actions may harm other people, as So Bong's life to him is more important than anyone else's. As for the pretending to be Nam Shin part, I'd say he's not doing a good job simply because he's not smart enough (as in the human type of smart). He often says Nam Shin's name as a third person, and makes wrong decisions that risk him getting caught because he fails to calculate all the possibilities. Young Hoon has also told him about his limitations in decision-making.

I'm a bit confused as to why the tears were able to snap him out of manual mode. I mean, both the hugging rule and the protect So Bong as first priority rule are rules, so he could have snapped out if it the moment he had to hurt So Bong cuz that already coincides with the protection rule. But anyways, I'm glad he was able to override in the end.

No need to shout, lmao XD but yeah I agree...even though I've not watched the subbed version yet.
I rmb I saw a behind-the-scenes where they kissed when it was winter (because they're wearing the same coats as in the poster with the snow and backhug). So we will have at least one more kiss before it ends.

Not me, sorry NamShin already proved me wrong, I thought he was redeemable but already twice tried to hurt people…
I feel the same as you Brownie. I just can't hate him no matter how hard I try. I actually feel sad when he does bad things cuz it means he's not gonna turn back. I find it to be a big waste cuz he could have been a good person. Someone precious and should be given the love he didn't have growing up. But he threw it all away, the chance for his mom to compensate for him, the chance for Younghoon to care about him, the chance for Yena to love him. It's like a self-fulfilling prophecy, he thinks they don't care so he keeps doing bad things, which in turn causes them to turn away from him, and proving him true. It's really sad and I feel a big loss that he couldn't redeem himself.

I get where you're coming from. Personally I think this drama did a great job having us reflect on what it means…
A product can actually be better than its creator. An example would be parent and child. Parents give birth to their children, but there are still things they can learn from their children. Children do imitate their parent's actions, so does an AI bot, but they also grow and develop themselves through different channels of input, and it is possible for them to learn what is better and disagree with their predecessors. The AI bot in this story clearly has its own judgment like a grown up child, and he is demonstrating morality and kindness that his creator clearly does not have. The robot has outgrown its parent. Another point is that humans, as long as they are willing to, can learn life lessons from anything, including daily objects, trees and pets. We can learn determination from observing ants, even though they are programmed by nature to be hard-working. We can learn loyalty from our dogs, even though they were bred for thousands of years to behave that way.

This is still my favorite drama even after 7 years. The chemistry is the best I've ever seen, and the feels this drama has given me is like no other. Whenever I watch current kdrama romcoms I would always reminisce that overwhelmingly romantic feeling that I can only find in Secret Garden and nowhere else.

I get where you're coming from. Personally I think this drama did a great job having us reflect on what it means to be human. I'm sure most people watching this acknowledge that humans have flaws because we are humans, and NS3 is perfect simply because he is a robot. The point is not that robots are better (objectively they are but that's not the message of the story), it's that humans, although are flawed, should strive to become better and even to humble ourselves and learn from the robot. As humans, there are things that we are supposed to be doing better at, like having empathy, working for the greater good, being kind and thoughtful, these are qualities that we have that robots don't. But, in the story we can see characters who have been blinded by their dark sides and have forgotten about humanity. This humanity, hopefully, will be restored through NS3, who teaches these people an important life lesson about being selfless. There are several characters who have changed from being bad at the start, to redeeming themselves in the later episodes through the acts of NS3.

I hope they speed up the pace soon cuz it's already near the end. Nothing much happened in last week's episodes (luckily the cliffhanger was good) so hopefully this week will give me some new surprises.

Hmm... If I found out my best friend has been a robot all along I'd seriously freak out and probably feel disturbed…
Maybe it has sth to do with the fact she actually saw what was inside his flesh. I guess it would be disgusting even if it were human bones.

Dating scenes usually signify that something bad is gonna happen soon and turn their relationship upside down. It's like preparing us for the angst that we're gonna have to go through :(
