The second point is 100% my feelings. Instead, they just kept changing the plot regarding her body/soul status pretty much every other episode. For what reason other than angst? Dunno. Wasn't the development more or less like this (only in 10 eps of 2nd season?): 1. Naksu's soul is the only one in her body; 2. No, JBY is still there. She's a villain who wants to use Naksu for her own gain! 3. Oh, JSR is there too! The truest villain! 4. Wait, JSR was the one there instead of JBY all along! 5. Well JSR was just there for a second and bid farewell! What a hero!

The OP didn't say anything about Hong sisters personality. They can be the kindest people alive but still at the same time horrible writers. Just the same as some people are horrible actors. I am personally a horrible singer. I can't do sports even if my life depended on it. Just a statement. Do you think every teacher in your school was good? Especially the elder ones who commited their whole life to teaching. I bet not. You just can't automatically rate someone as good because they have long experience. Ofc you may say they are good, but it's others right to say they are horrible.
In my mind Hong sisters just can't keep up with the times. Their fame comes mainly from their older dramas and the standards are changing. Personally I haven't been able to finish any of their dramas. I tried 3 because of the actors that starred in it. And I dropped all of them cause they were truly subpar comparing to others. Just like the below comments mention, they may have good ideas but can't execute them well enough. Maybe if I was 12yo and their dramas were the first I've seen in my life, I'd be more inclined to love them, but right now they are meh to me and I will continue to go out of my way to avoid them.

Is it worth watching even if S2 doesn't happen? Cause initially I thought S2 was confirmed and necessary for the story (kinda like a 2nd core or something), but now I see that it wasn't confirmed. (For some context, I think that Extracurricular doesn't need S2 for S1 to make sense as a stand-alone and be worthwile.)

Hahaha, had the same thought! Just saw that he'll be playing a divorced man in 'Can We Be Strangers?' and thought that they can't possibly be making a show about 24-year-old divorcee...
A very solid drama, although I got kinda lost in the political intrigue, but it's common for me with Cdramas. Very solid romances for secondary characters too, not rushed at all, which is not so common to see!
However, I would like to state a controversial opinion. Many have voiced that eps 28-35 are their least favourite. But for me, they are the best! The main couple's romance became kinda meh in the latter part of the show, so when it's out of the picture for a few eps, it's a breath of fresh air. We can focus on the ladies doing business, which is the best part of the show for me. Also I just LOVE FL's chemistry with Chi Yan Nei and his character growth overall! He quickly became one of my favourites here, especially with the ML being a bit stagnant. He was too funny.

By your thinking, if you don't like a comment, why do you even reply. Everybody has the right to view posts and give their opinion, especially that this one is not only about AoS. If anything that @CHARAN wrote isn't right, correct them. What @jxxvvxxkstan wrote gives a different perspective to the subject, but doesn't necessarily mean that @CHARAN is wrong. So if it's true, why shouldn't they write it? Just go to AoS' comment section to keep yourself in positive bubble that doesn't allow anybody to have a different opinion, smh.
Skipped most of the last 6 episodes just to see the scenes with the second couple, the only truly interesting thing in this show.
The ML was pretty nice and interesting, more of the serious type but at the same time not a typical cold ML "nobody ever sees him smile" (he actually has a great relationship with his friend and mother), but the FL at times felt as if she was 15. I know that she lost her memories, so she was overly naive and optimistic, but I just felt that the age gap between two leads was even wider than in reality. I literally saw zero reasons for the ML to fall for her. Not even mentioning that she fell for him after 1 episode, which came from nowhere. But the screenwriters had no other idea to bring the two of them together, other than her her clinging to him, for the next 10 episodes or so.
Also the timeline doesn't work for me. MGY looks very young, or should I say - her age (she was around 23 when they made the drama), so if she's the same age as ML's first love, and that relationship ended 8 years ago, it just doesn't work for me. The ML should be at least 30, if we assume that ML's first gf dated him while 21-22 (still pretty young). No way in hell does MGY look 30 in this drama. I know that it's nothing major, but it irked me.
On the other side we have the side couple, which got only few scenes with each other, but in that limited time still managed to become friends, build their bond, slowly fall for one another and then have their sweet relationship.
Recently I began watching really slow Cdramas, which made me convinced that I am capable of watching a slow-burn romance, so pacing is not my only issue here. The whole execution of the drama is just meh. If you want to kill some time, go for it, but if you're looking for drama which will make you unable to get away from screen, this ain't it.
So I've seen 8 eps, and I might be stirring a pot seeing how loved this show is, but nothing happened much in this amount of time? And it's half of S1. Believe me, I've seen a fair amount of shounen anime in my days and I do understand and love all the tropes, so clishes - hero working hard, earning his power and beating everyone - aren't a problem for me. But here, the ML seems to be reluctant to do anything, and then miraculously, with barely any work, he masters some crazy shit in a day or two? I mean, I get that he's the chosen one, but at least show that you care, man, not that you're here cause sb forced you to. In thise 8eps he spend like 10-15 mins actually training. Also I kinda didn't vibe with the amount of humor here, it made me feel like there are no stakes and nothing and no one is serious here. Like, I seriously don't need them making fun of every single character, including the elders. But I get it's personal. I'll be dropping, cause for all of the nice acting and scenery, it doesn't really offer anything more than a good shounen or xianxia. Never really vibed with Hong sisters overall.
Wow, for such a long series, and for such a slow-burning romance (from FL's side ofc) I barely skipped any scenes. It's not perfect (with some plots taking a bit too long, and some being too short esp in 2nd half), but incredibly well done nonetheless! I LOVED the fact that there were so many characters which were just good and supporting people. Will forever be a fan of emperor-empress-concubine trio. Such a satisfying show!
