Lol that's so lucky you could have see Suda or Nana walking by!!
Yeah IKRRRRRR For all you know, I might even have passed by them shooting because a lot of movies/shows shoot near my office & house whenever they do but I don't really care.
The fantasy element of Rika internalizing her mother's rejection & regarding herself as an iguana beautifully captured the way parental neglect & beauty standards work towards shaping self perception. When reinforced time & time again, they shake one's core, and self-esteem, becoming their reality.
The acting was so so earnest that I rooted for the characters all the way (esp the FL & her mother), the soundtrack was beautiful, and all in all, it was such a sincere & heartwarming drama. At points, I did think that some of the plot points did not have to be stretched out but having seen the whole drama, I can see how all the little details & incidents formed part of the FL's journey which ended in a satisfying conclusion.
This was a show ahead of its time, and I cannot recommend this enough for the way it tackled such strong themes in such a simple, effortless & believable way. This is a drama that every individual will relate to.
As always, trust Japan to deliver without beating around the bush. They always get straight to the point & I love that. The performances were natural & I love how the focus wasn’t so much on the FL’s looks (or lack of) but rather on the disappointment of where she is, in comparison to what she dreamed of & where the ML & her best friend are at. The ML was harsh without being overly loud, rude or personal minus the ending scene. The second leads also seem interesting. I really enjoyed the first episode (much more than any other versions) & I’m looking forward to the rest.
people who watch the 2 versions, is this version watchable?
Only 1 episode has aired so I don’t know how it will pan out in the later episodes but I personally liked this much better than the Korean & Chinese versions. Give it a try & decide for yourself :)
I rarely watch lakorns as I find most of them too melodramatic & violent, but your article has me convinced. This looks fun. I'll check it out, thank you :)
I watched 3 dramas starring him: the k2, suspicious partner and melting me softly. And I must say i don't think…
His only drama that I remember liking was Healer, but even Healer somewhat lost it's charm towards the end (at least for me). Nonetheless, JCW shone in that role. He's really talented, but appears to have a bad script choice.
This is one of the most realistic dramas I have seen from the LGBTQ+ genre. The ML's struggles, the acting, the writing, the soundtrack, the portrayal of what it means to be queer - every freaking thing about this drama was PERFECTION. Just watch it seriously.
This was a good drama. We're used to the stereotype of men having strong sexual urges with the whole womanizer image so many idolize, but women have urges too & it's time that we don't scutinize them for it. I've seen a ton of infidelity dramas where the woman wasn't happy and decided to have an affair thereafter. While this falls under that umbrella, I found this different from most of them in this genre. This was no masterpiece, but it is one of those dramas that made me feel like I was watching a book come to life.
I like that this focused a lot on what was going on in the FL's mind & how that shaped her actions. She didn't ever try to justify her actions, but was well aware of what she was doing. I hardly say this about such dramas, but I do think many would relate to what she was feeling. It was very real & I empathized with the emptiness & perplexity she felt. She'll stay with me for some time, and I'll wonder about how she's doing. The ending was PERFECTION, easily one of the best conclusions I've seen to a drama of this genre, where she chose not to let society define her.
Mikuzawa Asami was stellar as the FL, and so was the rest of the cast. I'm always amazed by the poetic depiction of the mundane in J dramas & this was no different. All in all, it was an interesting & engaging drama that I'd recommend to an open & mature audience who can take it.
Do reach out if you need more recommendations. Hope you enjoy these dramas!
