The dad would never win any “Dad of the Year” awards, without a doubt. He’s a twisted guy. But the drama seems to be conveying that he does indeed have some level of concern for his daughter. It doesn’t negate nor justify his harsh, unloving treatment of her all these years though.

True, it could go the way you suggested. But, the father explained himself. He was assuming the best of a future son-in-law, not that he could have evil intentions. That blind date (the suitor at the museum whom dad had picked) seemed to be exactly the sort of honorable man that dad had had in mind. When that guy discerned Huiju didn’t want an honorable love marriage , he removed himself from the equation.
PM thought he was sitting on some big secret when he said to Prince Ian, “That’s not what she wants from you.” He was seriously undone when the Prince said he knows exactly what she wants and FURTHERMORE…
He was so badass and 😎 cool with it. 🤣 Prince Ian is not to be underestimated. He knows what’s what—up, down, and sideways.
Exactly this isn't love, I don't think he ever really wanted to be with her but he doesn't want her to be with…
Here’s my take: I’ll bet he probably considered her too beneath his status to seriously consider dating and marrying her previously. He’s enjoyed her friendship and nursing his secret crush. But, I don’t think he ever had any real intentions beyond that. I could be wrong though. Would have been nice if the series had been long enough to delve deeper into the supporting characters like that, to give us more insights. I think he only considered marrying Huiju when he saw someone above his own status going for it unabashedly. He himself had not the courage to do so. Or, is that Huiju shot him down long ago? Probably not as she seems oblivious of his feelings.
So glad Prince Ian didn’t let PM’s mind games get the better of him. I’m so tired of PM at this point.
💯I’ve got mad respect for the Prince. His restraint and level-headedness are next level. Even the way he has dealt with the Queen Mother, biding time, sitting on the big secret and the true will—a master in restraint. Can’t wait to see what he does next.
I don’t want to acknowledge Huiju’s dad love towards her but I think he still cares about her when he asked…
Also, the reason why he wanted her to marry down instead of marrying up conveys his concern for her. It’s a bit twisted, but he wanted someone who would see her as a step up and would therefore cherish her more.
I'm always almost convinced she's Gong Myung in drag
She looked so pretty though in ancient Joseon-style with her hair pulled back off her face. I barely recognized her standing beside Huiju during the wedding.
I’m a fan of the new 8 or 12-episode model, normally. But, “Perfect Crown” is definitely one that needs the traditional 16-episodes format. There are a number of scenes where I would have enjoyed it if they had gone more in depth. Loving the drama overall though. This is definitely entering my top-five-favorites list.
not to add to the pile of comments already discussing this to death, but, i do gotta say i'm having a hard time…
When they were at the wall, she jokingly said their actions would fool people into thinking that they are crazy in love. BWS’s micro expression in that moment, with a slightly raised eyebrow, said “Girl, jokes on you. Ain’t nobody playing here. I been crazy in love for a long time.” That is but one example. He’s nailing this role. His character is repressed and reserved. BSW is nailing it.
