Yuchan is beautiful too. There are other reasons besides this. In addition to her natural charm, Lanxiang has a special bearing, demeanor, and intellect due to her being raised as a noble that makes her stand out. Yet, she’s so humble and modest. It really makes her beautiful inside and out. It makes her stand out as exceptional even though Yuchan is outstanding too. Lanxiang is more so.

I get exactly where you’re coming from. I initially thought that Yuchan might’ve have been his woman since he asked about her first thing in ep 2 upon returning from the army. But, it seems they only ever had a professional relationship.

I’m like you—why’d he fall for Lanxiang but not Yuchan? My observation—While Yuchan is sharp, Lanxiang is sharper. Remember how she bluffed with the Marquis to get him to read the letter. Lanxiang’s intellect surpasses Yuchan’s in a way the really astounds everyone. It makes sense that Jinqi would take notice of her in a special way.

Lanxiang also has the advantage of having been raised as a noblewoman. This subtly makes her shine in a way that Yuchan cannot. Jinqi can discern that something about Lanxiang is different and special. He just can’t explain why. For all of her mystique, and intelligence, and gentle manners, he’s drawn to her like no one else.

I definitely wanted to see Jinqi confront Du about Second Young Lady, grab him around the collar, and beat him up a little. But, that didn’t happen. Jinqi was only saddened at the loss of someone whom he had mistakenly thought was a good friend. I felt sad for Jinqi over the betrayal.

I enjoyed them. The scene with Second Young Lady and her mother was a bit dragged, as well as, the Xu family’s search for a new home. But, I loved hearing Jinqi cryptically allude to his future with Lanxiang and seeing him worried about the new guy in her life. A great watch overall. I wish they would drop four episodes at a time instead of two.

How was killing the Lin family going to help Lady Du climb the social ladder? Cutting off this connection makes no sense as I thought she wanted to marry Jinqi. Why kill him? I heard her twisted rant about how the First Madam likely would have married her to an undesirable match (undesirable by Cuique’s standards). But still why kill off everyone? Did she think she could take over the Lin estate if all of them were dead? Was that the master plan?

Maybe the drama will reveals more details as the plot unfolds. Someone suggested there is a mastermind behind the Du siblings? Btw, are they really siblings?

The way Tan Song Yun delivered that tale to the soldiers and had them glued to their seats reminded me of Megan Follows’ captivating delivery of “The Highwayman” in the 1980’s Kevin Sullivan version of “Anne of Green Gables.” Does anyone else remember that?
