On Can This Love Be Translated? Jan 22, 2026
rewatch it, at episode 07.
After their heartbreak conversation in episode 06, when Mu Hee visit Ho-Jin's house by writer Kim's invitation.

During conversation between Mu-Hee and Ho-Jin when cooking. Mu-Hee metaphorically use boiling water as early phase of cooking as their current situation : they're not even begin with, it's just started heating.

Then Ho-Jin in literally cooking activities, he shut down the stove, but Mu-Hee once again use it as metaphor for their relation, expect him not to shut their fire (relationship) down, yet.

When Ho-Jin said "it's just water with kelp. There is nothing to it, really". That's how he thought of Mu-Hee's feeling to him (meaningless, nothing serious). Then Mu-Hee annoyed with him, because she is serious, and answered to him in direct word that she kissed him (he mean something to her).

This convo is explaining about each other feeling during their time in Canada, but once again, the filmmaker use indirect language so some of us probably failed to catch what happened with him in Canada.

But yes, that conversation between them at the end of episode 06 is quite confusing.

PS.
When Ho-Jin shut down the stove to let kelp cooling before seasoning, it's also metaphorically describe their story later. They need their relationship too cool down before seasoning and finally become delicious meal.

I just finished this drama, and honestly, it was a decent watch, but it had way too many tropes I really dislike,…
1st : it's you
2nd : it's you
3rd : it's you

all that reasons you said, begin with "i", it's your pov, you failed to see their pov. you failed to translate this drama.

Can someone answer why the fls mother wanted to kill the dad n her kid? I think I missed the part where this was…
FL's dad is about to break their relationship, but FL's mom use pregnancy to keep him. They never have a marriage.

And when they are already a family with Mu-Hee, i think FL's dad is about to leave her again, or their relationship isn't happy one. So her crazy thought is : "if she can't have him, let die together when they still a family".

I guess Mu-Hee have that kind of obsessive thought passed down from her mom.

Can someone explain ep 6? what does ML meant in his conversation with her at the crossroad after he chased after…
Ho-Jin are already moved on from Ji-Seon, he already open his heart and is about to begin new chapter with Mu-Hee. But he thought Mu-Hee's effort is not genuine enough, he thought her effort is just to regain her pride after Ho-Jin's previous rejection.

He thought her effort is manything else except genuine feeling. That hurt him, because he seriously is open his heart for her.

Mu-Hee's word manytimes is contradictive with her feeling (and so is most women), and Ho-Jin is type person whom take everyone word as literal meaning (and so is most men). That is where them two lost in translation.

Ohh, and Ho-Jin is already about to cross that railtrack when in Japan. He is about to move on from Ji-Seon when he met Mu-Hee.

All of this just to find out that her parents are alive. So the crazy her was her version of her mother and they…
the crazy her is actually her, some part of crazy gene passed down from her mother.
When she visited a doctor in Japan with Ho-Jin translating her words, she lied that none of her family have somekind of disorder or mental illness. She can't speak the truth, because Ho-Jin, someone she liked, will heard it.
Her aunt and uncle are affraid of her, because she have similarities with her mother, not just her look, but probably some of her behavior.

Mu-Hee that we meet is the mask that she made over time.

She know she is partly crazy, that is why she is hesitant to tell Ho-Jin. She is affraid Ho-Jin can't accept that part of her.

When you understand him, and her, or when you have completely watching it, you'll understand why she never look…
just for fun. impulsive her (Do Rami) after heartbreak during long flight from Canada to east Asia.

meaningless.

even as Do Rami, she spent her time in Italy with Ho-Jin, never she call Hiro to accompany her.
even in her subconscious, she never thought of Hiro, it's always Ho-Jin.

i love how theatrical this is, i can totally see this as a play- the involvement of dorami elevated the show sooo…
actual Mu Hee is the crazy one, (probably) it passed down from her mom. Her aunt and uncle know the crazy side of her mom, that's why they scared of Mu Hee.
insecure persona formed after the accident when she learned to hide, to runaway, to be accepted by her aunt and uncle, then to be accepted by society.
Overtime it created Mu Hee that we know.

Insecure Mu Hee still have that spontaneous, and impulsive behavior.

Well, done! Bravo! Bellissimo! I think if everyone goes in with the mindset of your "typical" romance…
yes, the first part of the drama is about them failed to translate each other language.
the second part is about him trying his best to learn her language.

between those part, Mu-Hee actually teach Ho-Jin her language.

When Ho-Jin agree that they saw the "waterfall", he begin to speak her language.
When Mu-Hee told him how to respond their slim chance to see aurora, he awkwardly copy her. He begin to learn her languange.

Ho-Jin's language is always realistic, sometimes it sound too harsh for Mu-Hee who seek comfort, sometimes it just too hard for her to understand. It's easier for her if he just hold her hand, hug her, or kiss her, not a realistic or scientific sentence.

Mu-Hee's language is too complex for Ho-Jin who can't read emotion underneath. if he heard someone said A, he took it as A. But woman's language never like that, if a woman said A, it could be 21.

Like if Mu-Hee encourage Ho-Jin to chase Ji-Seon, actually Mu-Hee expect Ho-Jin to stay and be with Mu-Hee, sometimes it totally opposites!

They are attracted to each other since their first meeting. But they failed to understand each other, that is why we keep seeing it as push and pull between them.

1.) it's not romcom, it's melodrama. So you can adjust you expectation. 2.) the stories are deep, layered, some…
yes.

When you understand him, and her, or when you have completely watching it, you'll understand why she never look…
i'll tell you how i see it.

1.) Mu-Hee is craved for love.
Because of her past, she need someone who really love her, care for her. Before she falling to Ho-Jin, she in relationship with the chef. That chef who left Mu-Hee to marry a pregnant woman.

That chef have kindness to the point he marry a woman with a child from other dude. What chef did to Mu-Hee is wrong, but he have that level of kindness to woman.

Then he meet a stranger who have deep impression to her : Ho-Jin.
Their meeting in Japan is meaningfull for her, she mentioned in interview that the stranger he randomly meet in Japan is an amazing person to the point it made her heart pounding

Then she fell to coma for 6 months.

When she wake up, she is really happy to reunited again with Ho-Jin.

When they walk together after interviews, they shared a moment, just a simple kindness from Ho-Jin to lend his scarf so Mu-Hee didn't catch cold.

During her comatose period, Ho-Jin keep coming to hospital to see Mu-Hee. After knowing this, Mu-Hee sees some level of kindness in Ho-Jin.

She is attracted to him.

2.) None of us want that the person who we like, knowing something that we keep as secret.
it can be something silly, sin in the past, crime, etc. We cant let the person we like knowing that kind of stuff, because we affraid it'll change the way that person see us.

Mu-Hee can't share her deepest darkest past to anyone. You know with whom she share her secret she buried so deep?

To someone she like.

She didn't want to share it, but in the end she share it to Ho-Jin. When she able to share her burden, Do Rami is finally gone. She finally find some comfort to share story that she keep so deep, without being judged by Ho-Jin.

3.) Mu-Hee is the mask.
Mu-Hee is the mask to wear so society see her as normal person. Mu-He restrict herself so society can accept her, this related to her past trauma living with her uncle and aunt.

Mu-Hee probably shared some her burden to her previous ex : the chef. That is why the pregnant lady called Mu-Hee as a miserable woman. Probably that pregnant woman heard Mu-Hee's story from the chef.

Do Rami spiling Mu-Hee's darkest deepest secret not by accident, because actually Mu-Hee want to share it with Ho-Jin. But she affraid that Ho-Jin will reject her like everybody else.
Without hesitation, Do Rami tell Mu-Hee's secret, so when that secret is shared, the burden is gone, and so is Do Rami.

Next, Mu-Hee never have any secret to keep from Ho-Jin, that is why Hiro surprised that Mu-Hee told Ho-Jin that somewhere in the past, they have kissed. That is why her aunt also surprised.

4.) Hiro is attracted to Mu-Hee the celebrity.
He begin attracted to her, because he saw her glowing, her attractive part. You know why she is glowing when around Hiro? Because she heard Ho-Jin's voice translating their conversation.

Hiro never knew the darkside of Mu-Hee. Do you think he will capable to handle her? Hiro's narcistic side probably can't.

And Mu-Hee never attracted to someone narcistic like Hiro.

Mu-Hee only attracted to someone kind, because she craved for genuine care.

True, Hiro have his own kindness, like how he interact with her nephew. But it's not in the same level as Ho-Jin, or even the chef.

That is how i interprete this story, and why Mu-Hee will always see Ho-Jin. Hiro is just a support character in her eyes.

I put off this show because I lost hope in romcom Kdramas. But i'm on episode 4 and this show brought back feelings…
1.) it's not romcom, it's melodrama. So you can adjust you expectation.

2.) the stories are deep, layered, some are metaphorical.
That is why review are mixed. Some audience can see what the meaning then called it beautifull, poetic.
Some failed to see the meaning, just see what is on the shells then called it as boring, tourism ads, brand marketing, etc.

Would love to know what you thought when you complete it.

in real convo he should have cut her speak, and speak his mind, then grab her hand.but yeah.from his pov that…
No, you're not.

1) probably there is something with Netflix 's translation.
2) they both speak in different language.

Ho-Jin is melancholy, overthinking, he see everything in realistic way. So when someone said A, he read it as A.
He cant read people's emotion from their words, he just read it as it is.

his realistic way prevent him to see "waterfall" that Mu-Hee saw.

his realistic way of speaking can be sound harsh for other people.

But he didn't always speak his mind.

Mu-Hee is more complex. just like almost every woman in real life, when they speak A, it can be translated as 21.
when woman said to their spouse that he can go to meet his friends, she actually expected her spouse to not to go meet his friend. she expected her spouse to be with her.

first part of the series is about them keep on mistranslate eachother.
second part of the series is about Ho-Jin to try hard to learn her languange, with the help of Do Rami.

between those two part, Mu-Hee actually teach Ho-Jin her language.

When Ho-Jin agree that he saw the "waterfall" it's him begin to speak her language.

Mu-Hee literally teach him, when she is disappointed knowing they have almost no chance to see the aurora, instead of speak in realistic way, Mu-Hee told Ho-Jin to speak to lift her spirit.

Ho-Jin's realistic thinking prevent him to be romantic. In the end, he learned this skill.

Instead of saying the flat way that he want to back to Seoul after done meeting in Busan, he said he want to immediately return to Seoul because he want to see Mu-Hee.

Conversation at the end of episode 06 is happen again, twice. in episode 10 on stairs in Italy, and when in episode 11, when Mu-Hee affraid her celeb status can be a burden for Ho-Jin.
But on that two occasion, Ho-Jin able to understand her and give the answer that comforting Mu-Hee.

the title really speak about Ho-Jin and Mu-Hee.
Yet, Ho-Jin and Mu-Hee speak in same language, but they failed to translate each other.

Do Rami is the intepreter for Ho-Jin to understand Mu-Hee's language.
