I put off this show because I lost hope in romcom Kdramas. But i'm on episode 4 and this show brought back feelings…
1.) it's not romcom, it's melodrama. So you can adjust you expectation.
2.) the stories are deep, layered, some are metaphorical. That is why review are mixed. Some audience can see what the meaning then called it beautifull, poetic. Some failed to see the meaning, just see what is on the shells then called it as boring, tourism ads, brand marketing, etc.
Would love to know what you thought when you complete it.
I love the train imageries..of course the first separation at the track is the best
The first time they meet, they crossing the railtrack together. When they got sepearated, the railtrack is between them. Train and railtrack appeared again in some occasion, but i forgot when and what is the meaning.
in real convo he should have cut her speak, and speak his mind, then grab her hand.but yeah.from his pov that…
No, you're not.
1) probably there is something with Netflix 's translation. 2) they both speak in different language.
Ho-Jin is melancholy, overthinking, he see everything in realistic way. So when someone said A, he read it as A. He cant read people's emotion from their words, he just read it as it is.
his realistic way prevent him to see "waterfall" that Mu-Hee saw.
his realistic way of speaking can be sound harsh for other people.
But he didn't always speak his mind.
Mu-Hee is more complex. just like almost every woman in real life, when they speak A, it can be translated as 21. when woman said to their spouse that he can go to meet his friends, she actually expected her spouse to not to go meet his friend. she expected her spouse to be with her.
first part of the series is about them keep on mistranslate eachother. second part of the series is about Ho-Jin to try hard to learn her languange, with the help of Do Rami.
between those two part, Mu-Hee actually teach Ho-Jin her language.
When Ho-Jin agree that he saw the "waterfall" it's him begin to speak her language.
Mu-Hee literally teach him, when she is disappointed knowing they have almost no chance to see the aurora, instead of speak in realistic way, Mu-Hee told Ho-Jin to speak to lift her spirit.
Ho-Jin's realistic thinking prevent him to be romantic. In the end, he learned this skill.
Instead of saying the flat way that he want to back to Seoul after done meeting in Busan, he said he want to immediately return to Seoul because he want to see Mu-Hee.
Conversation at the end of episode 06 is happen again, twice. in episode 10 on stairs in Italy, and when in episode 11, when Mu-Hee affraid her celeb status can be a burden for Ho-Jin. But on that two occasion, Ho-Jin able to understand her and give the answer that comforting Mu-Hee.
because of someone's comment here, i rewatch again.
in episode 2, when she reunited again with Ho-Jin in an interview. I can feel her happy feeling passing through the screen. It really touching.
His deep voice, someone voice that she recognize, suddenly can be heard behind her.
She keep smiling during interview, she try to peek on him, flustered and keep on smiling. Her meeting with Ho-Jin in Japan have deep impression to her, she said that in the interview. This all really set the tone for the rest of this show.
Hiro fell for the sunshine, glowing happy girl not knowing she is glowing because of the man speaking in her ears…
Nice one, never thought of that Hiro only see her as Mu-Hee the celebrity. Her bright side attracted him, he never know her dark side.
But, other than that, the show have made it very clear what kind of person Mu-Heel will fall for.
She craved for love, she attracted to someone kind. True that Hiro have kindness part, the show tell us through his interaction with his nephew. But his kindness is not in the same level as Ho-Jin, who checking on her while she is coma in hospital for 6 months.
Maybe Hiro's kindness isn't the same level with the chef who left Mu-Hee to marry a pregnant woman, knowing it's not even his kid. What he did to Mu-Hee is wrong, but he have kindness to raise other dude's kid.
Sure its solely my assumption that he have more kindness that attracted Mu-Hee, it just the show didn't tell us. It just begin with her searching her ex across the sea, after being ghosted for about 3 months.
Because of her past when she is a kid, she craved for love.
Hiro's narcistic side won't suit her.
In episode two. We all can feel how happy she is when she reunited with Ho-Jin again. Their first meeting in Japan, even it short, really have have deep impression to her.
i paused after 1st episode, because its so good, i want to keep it for later watch.
a day later, out of curiosity, want just to take a peek for 2nd episode. can't stop from there. its not in my plan to spent a night to finish this drama XD
I'm at the end of EP6 and the conversation they had before leaving Canada was so weird. Like why didn't he just…
in real convo he should have cut her speak, and speak his mind, then grab her hand.
but yeah.
from his pov that time, Ho-Jin is already moved on from Ji-Seon, he is started to open his heart for Mu-Hee. but.... with Mu-Hee's reaction, he thought that she isn't really into him, like her effort is just to feed her curiosity. After previous Ho-Jin's rejection, he thought that she approached him just to win over Do Rami. He thought her effort is just to save her own dignity after his rejection. No genuine feeling.
we should open specific thread about this conversation from episode 6
Hahahaha, so many ppl in the audience are duped... this is not a real kdrama.. it is Hollywood witih Asian actors...…
ironic that you mentioned about young people doing egoistical things, then you speak your opinion but ask other people not to reply yours to counter your opinion.
well im just informing you, so that you know, that you just wanted to be heard. or just attention seeker.
I always thought it was cute and funny. but it wasn't funny when she missed her flight just to go find him, and…
she left airport to meet to Ho-Jin before Ho-Jin able to speak to Ji-Seon.
i forgot, maybe to confirm Ho-Jin about his feeling to Mu-Hee. They kind of bonding since the northern lights till on the way on airport.
She kind of jump first think later. She hope to meet Ho-Jin before he meet Ji-Seon.
So when she saw Ho-Jin talk to Ji-Seon, she felt she failed her mission (the reason she ran away from airport to begin with). Then she don't know what to do, then her head started to make assumption. Then Do Rami appeared to make things worse.
Man, the way they handle the romance is what kills me. They take so much time carefully building up this genuine…
its Ho-Jin's overthinking, and overly melancholy that prevent him to move forward. He need to plan everything, and based on his calculation, their relationship won't work.
then it also Mu-Hee's insecurity (later it will presented by Do Rami) that prevent her to have love she deserved.
2nd part of the drama is about their journey to overcome what i mentioned above. To heal their past trauma, and to solve unfinished business in the past. When we able to read them, and their journey, it's beautifull.

there still more things to uncover.
Do Rami is the intepreter for Ho-Jin to understand Mu-Hee's language.

so which one is you? want to be heard? or attention seeker?
since you threat to block me, im assuming the first one.
well im just informing you, so that you know, that you just wanted to be heard. or just attention seeker.

she felt little so she try to please everyone, remember that she almost fail to have the job.
then it also Mu-Hee's insecurity (later it will presented by Do Rami) that prevent her to have love she deserved.

bottom subtitle is a translation for the kid to understand the situation, or character's emotion.
sorry to ruin the party
