I don't think I could bail on GMMTV because A) It gave me PeteKao B) It's giving me 1000 Stars and C)They really…
It's worthwhile: one of Canada's biggest comedy exports in a number of years, co-created by openly gay actor Dan Levy. He stars in the show, too. There's another show called "Letterkenny," that's very funny. It's very quirky.

I hear what you're saying. I don't watch every Thai BL that comes along for some of the reasons you mentioned: repetitive/formulaic storylines, less than healthy dynamics that really influence the narrative and/or poor performances and writing.
In some ways, I feel fortunate in that I've only really delved into the genre since the beginning of the year: due to Covid. I've been able to go through a surprisingly (to me) hefty catalogue of series and watch ones that have appealed to me for either their storylines, the performers, or glowing reviews. (As opposed to global LGBT cinema, which I've been watching for 35 years.)
With Pete and Kao, I agree that there were bothersome aspects to their relationship. Pete was domineering and inconsiderate to Kao, at times. Kao, though, (as written) allowed it to a certain degree. That, in itself, is not a wholly unrealistic dynamic. I may not think it's optimal but I've known a number of couples (of every orientation) where one partner tends to lead and the other follows.
I also felt that, for as dominating and surly as Pete could be, that there was hardly anything Pete wouldn't do for Kao, if Kao was honest and put his foot down. (It's also a drama so they have to have some conflicts written in to keep it interesting.) I get, though, why it might not have worked for you. ( I also think that Tay Tawan seems like one of the kindest and down-to-earth celebrities I've ever seen and could be enormously biased: LOL!)
As for BL from other countries, I haven't found myself as drawn to them. One characteristic of Thai BLs that I really enjoy are that they often occur within larger family and friend circles. I also really like how approachable Thai actors seem with their fans. It has an almost community feel to it that is endearing to me.
I liked one Filipino BL I saw but I didn't think it was great. (Not better than any of my favourite Thai shows) I have yet to find a Korean or Japanese one that I've enjoyed. (I think they fare much better with their LGBT cinema) and I don't watch any mainland Chinese BL that's been released post-crackdown because I object to the neutering of the characters. Taiwan, though, has put out a number of works I've really enjoyed. It their industry I like most after Thai BL.
It sounds to me that you have a healthy perspective in that you'll be choosy about what you'll watch and save your time for the worthy productions like 1000 Stars.
Every year I’m on the verge of giving up on GMMTV productions, and they laugh at me and release an adorable…

Kiss Me Again was bilge except for the PeteKao parts, IMO...
I'm sad because I'm not feeling it and I don't know why. I mean the plot is interesting the relationship isn't…
That's too bad. I love it. I find it a charming, sincere M2M love story that also refers to second chances, self improvement, and taking the road less travelled.

(Apologies for the long winded reply.)
