So there are two levels to this....the social commentary level and the plot level. The social commentary is interesting,…
I think we may end up finding that the whole pace of the series feels rushed because of the short timeframe they have. My guess is that they couldn't get the funding/backing for more/longer episodes.
For those who don't know, Director P'Aof and his friends have been posting viewing reaction and recap videos for the episodes of ATOTS. The reaction vid for the finale has now been Eng Subbed:
I started out really loving this show and ended it with a different opinion. I do still think it's a great series…
I view this very differently. I felt that we were given a living community that this story was taking place in. One of ATOTS' strengths, in my opinion, was have a participating supporting cast. The time spent on other issues made Pha Pan Dao a rich community and I loved how they delved into local customs and beliefs.
From what people who've read the book have said, they tracked the tone and course of the novel fairly faithfully. In fact, most of the novel readers felt that the series improved on the source material.
Phupha and Tian do not get together as a couple until the very end of the novel, and we seem to have been given more scenes of romance (like the airport farewell and Phu's tender kiss on Tian's forehead, which was improvised by Earth) then the novel actually had.
I don't think that GMMTV had any intention to subvert the romance in the show. Of course, you have every right to your own impressions. I just thought I'd share a counter perspective.
Just a note to anyone potentially interested in participating:
Our rewatch party is officially under way with Episode 1! People are welcome to join whether they are first time viewers or seeing it again to post their observations both old and new. Because the response has been strong. We'll be setting up a dedicated thread for each Episode. The Ep 1 has spoilers for Ep 1 and if commentators also refer to something from later episodes or a point that runs throughout the whole series, they spoiler tag it. The Ep. 2 thread will contain spoilers for Eps 1&2. You get the idea...
Everyone is welcome, whether you among those retracing the journey to Pha Pan Dao or if it's you first time! =)
This is the show Lovely Writer wants to be when it grows up.
I'm pretty sure that this show in going to land in my Fave 5. These ratings are influenced by so many things that I barely pay attention to them, anyway. The director participates in this thread and I'm sure he'll see the appreciation it receiving.
Does anyone know where to purchase the entireToTS soundtrack? You can download the theme song and also the other…
I don't know anything about purchasing music online but one poster, @Vent Pire, Has a spotify list of the songs from the show. You can find the link in the Recent Discussions box under"The Music of ATOTS." I know she enjoys a thank you from listeners. =)
I like this, so far. The actors seem good, the scripting is tight and it's serving some of the true tea in terms of attitudes and practices. From Jub insisting that BL "isn't gay" to the leads having their social accounts managed by the producer, to cosmetic surgery and special diets: they certainly didn't pull punches! I also liked the commentaries on corruption and how it's taboo to be critical of the gov't. It's a true pity that the episodes are so short. Imagine what they could have done with an hour episode!

Earth and Mix were lightning in a bottle. GMMTV would be fools not to use them together, again.
