Despite the silliness and EXTREME tonal dissonance (along with some mighty questionable jokes concerning LGBTQ+ elements) I really, really, REALLY enjoyed this. The leads are adorable. Their love is so believable and joyful and it just brought me a lot of happiness seeing the together. The love triangle turns into an ideal squad of a badass hero and her sidekicks- one of them a technology wiz, the other a gruff and tough cop. I recommend this. There are some disturbing things in it- disturbing for a kdrama, that is. If you're used to American media to any degree it's all fairly tame.
This drama has flaws, but one of those flaws is not 'boring'.
I'm so heartbroken by this. He was such a positive presence. This hit me harder than some recent celebrity deaths. While seeing somebody play roles in movies and television is one thing, I've watched this man simply being himself for 100+ hours on 2D1N. Obviously I didn't actually know him, but you develop a really strong familiarity with somebody after watching them for so long. I can picture him smiling, and I've seen him cry real tears. He's talked about his hopes and dreams and struggles and we've seen it all. And now he's gone. It's a strange feeling.
Is there any reason the name was changed from "I Remember You" to "Hello Monster"? I much prefer the former, and it comes from the native Korean. Not sure where Hello Monster comes from.
I want to watch this, and I want to like it. I've seen SO many bad things about it though. I tend to be pretty forgiving when it comes to Chinese historicals because they're usually damn pretty. Is this drama at least sensical? If you had to pick a drama (preferably one I've seen) to compare it to quality-wise, what would it be?
I wasn't thinking the King was very good-looking at first, but seeing him in the modern bits changed that really quickly. Anywho, the tone of this drama is giving me whiplash. I don't know if I like it or not.
I'm so excited for this! I'm usually not the HUGEST Suzy fan in the world, but she's decent, and with LJS at her side nothing can go wrong. (At least I hope so.) This can't come soon enough!
I'm definitely a chocolate fanatic. Sweet things are my vice. Although my go-to savoury snack is Nongshim kimchi ramen with kimchi dumplings. That, or green tea ice cream.
I love his whole attitude to love/women.
"Oh, what's that? You want to have sex with me? Okay."
"You're living with me? You love me? Okie dokie then, I guess this is happening."
As for the villain, I wasn't expecting it.. They seemed kind of kooky and off-beat, and definitely different from the rest of them, but that made me like them more? Idk they were prob one of my faves until it was revealed, at which point I wanted Shin to rip them apart. Cut their hair off. Chop their hands off. Torture them, but don't kill them. Do something. (Too much Game of Thrones for me, I think!)
I felt a little off about the rival author storyline. It was really underwhelming imo.
Nobody yell at me, but I really was not a fan of Dilmurat Dilraba in the other drama I've seen her in. (Peach Blossoms)
Is she less annoying in this? More importantly, is her dub artist less high-pitched in this? I like my female leads to have a bit of a deeper, calmer voice. I love the lead dude but the chick is making me not want to bother watching this.
...Looks like I'm going to have to wait until there's a good chunk of this drama out before I watch it. If it actually goes into modern times I'm not gonna bother.
YOU FORGOT: - Please Come Back, Mister - Missing Nine - Signal - City Hunter - Time Between Dog and Wolf - School…
I thought Come Back, Mister had a fine ending? Same with City Hunter? Then again I don't remember it 100%, but I liked it at the time.
I will agree, Missing Nine was a shitshow.
Soul was a great drama even with the ??? ending. That entire drama was so off-beat the ending didn't detract from it too much imo.
Well, Princess Agents should receive THE WORST ENDING EVER Award !!! And i will add to the list : - Les Interprètes…
I loved the ending of 49 days. There weren't any loose plot hooks or anything, it wrapped it all up nicely. I was emotionally devastated for days, though. It was great.
Scarlet Heart Ryeo's by far. Totally unnecessary & the writers ruined the couple & story completely.
The writers ruined nothing. It followed the original almost perfectly. It isn't really supposed to be a happy ending. Even in the little bit they didn't include from the original Chinese version- the main female character seeing a modern day version of the Emperor- ends with her turning her back on him. It hurts, but it's supposed to.
I have to say Gu Family Book's ending is the most WTF ending ever! it still bugs me! I'm still hoping…
There will never be a second season.
I'd say less than 1% of Kdramas ever have sequels, and even then they're usually just based around a similar concept (Full House, for example) rather than a continuation of the first one.
Something interesting about that drama... I watched the whole thing, I know I did. But I'll be damned if I could tell you what it was about. Or even a single plot point.
Which is really strange for me, because SJK dramas tend to always be wonderful.
Maybe it's because I watched it when it was currently airing? I don't know.
The ending of Gu Family Book pissed me off only because
(spoilers!)
she gets shot, and it takes her DAYS to die. Literal days. But they don't even try and save her or anything? Maybe disinfect the wound? Take the bullet out? SOMETHING? It was stupid and ridiculous.
I'm surprised Missing 9 wasn't mentioned here though. That drama started out as a creative, fascinating, mysterious story. It turned into a slog of "What ridiculous thing is happening now?" and "Really? That's how you're ending it? Just forgiving this guy for killing multiple people and trying to kill you guys too? ok"
Anywho, I haven't actually watched Diamond Lover, but I read that Rain wasn't available/affordable for the last few episodes so they sort of Frankenstein'd together an ending without him, hence why he doesn't get the girl. From what I heard she ends up with a friend anyway, which is honestly more realistic.
There were a lot of things they were doing to "help" their singing that I found... questionable, to say the least. Guess pansori is just a whole other beast compared to "normal" singing. (The "medicine" part is flat-out disgusting.)
I thought I'd have more of an icky feeling about the romance in this, just because of the ages. It really wasn't too bad, though.
Honestly Suzy's acting wasn't PERFECT, but she did a better job than I thought she'd do, especially when it came to the singing. However, it bugged me how the background music was often too loud, draining out the singing..
I assumed this would be a 2 episodes-a-day. 5 days a week drama. Only Thursdays and Fridays, though!? My heart! I would have rationed the first 24 episodes over more than just 3 days if I'd have known;;;
This is probably gonna sound REAL weird to most people, but rn I'm finding that both Ling and Zhan remind me of Feng Shao Feng. For very different reasons.

Also I think this article needed an editor.

I was a big fan at the beginning, but the drama then devolved into a flailing mess of "what exactly was the plot again?".
