Yeah...what everyone else said. Nothing about this 'Love Story' is 'Ordinary'. The transition from rom-com to…
I felt like the switch was pretty abrupt, but in a very good way. I actually, physically jumped and gasped at that moment of realization but I didn't feel like it pulled me out of what I had seen before so quickly as to render the before meaningless or stupid.
Endless, monotonous narration and exposition from several characters without which we'd have no idea what the hell is going on. This director has never heard the sage advice: "Show, don't tell." Plot holes by the bucket. Inconsistencies and improbabilities all over the place. FL recites every line at the same pitch, tone, and volume while moving her lips as little as humanly possible. Absurdly over-the-top characterizations, in particular the stay-at-home mom. A lot of stylish cinematography, but not enough to overcome the monotony.
A fun watch undermined by an absurd premise that became super-absurd/ridiculous by the climactic sequence. The bullying was cartoonish, as was the admin/staff all looking the other way.
I'm glad I watched it but would only mildly recommend it.
That's all that came to me as I sat in the stillness at the end of the film. Relentlessly intense from start to finish. I have no idea who the most f**ked up person in the movie is, but it may be a tie among several characters. Most horrifying is how we see the stage being set for the next suicide before the last one is even in the ground. Seriously, what would it take for these people to catch a clue?
I was fascinated and stressed from beginning to end, which, combined with the above attributes, makes for just my kind of flick. :D
A butter knife? Really?
An unyielding look at Korea's culture of suicide, with the highest rate in the world by far. Taken as an accurate depiction of reality, this film makes it easy to imagine a lot of reasons why that is the case.
It's remarkable, the extent to which LSK elevated even a basic thriller like this to the level of art. There is no other actor as talented and charismatic in my experience, be it in Asia or here in the U.S. That he is gone is a monumental tragedy.
It was a delight to see him here as a "bad" cop, the type of role I've not seen him play before. Even his fight scenes are first-rate, combining powerful choreo with LSK's magnetism and powers of evocation to produce truly rare stuff.
As the slimy but incredibly sexy, evil bad guy, Park Hae Joon is excellent.
Naturally, this film is criminally underrated here on MDL, where down is up and vice-versa regarding ratings.
Also, Jung Hwi has an acting resume a mile long, but in true MDL fashion, all we see above is a confusing, short blurb about this stupid car wreck that was not his fault. christ...
Only in Korea would a person who was in the BACK SEAT, obviously NOT DRIVING, who had called for a sober driver; but whose drunk friend then got behind the wheel and caused a car crash, be expected to QUIT their jobs, destroy their career, and apologize to the public. For WHAT? What, exactly, did he do that was wrong? Is it that he was breathing the same air as the drunk driver? That he didn't try to wrestle the wheel away from the drunk driver, thus causing a certain car crash?
Reasoning like "netizens are unforgiving..." are SO lame. Fuck these psycho "netizens." This guy did nothing wrong. omg, I can't stand it... almost all my fave films/BLs, and other dramas are Korean but when I read shit like this, and spend my time holding my breath waiting for the next Korean celebrity suicide, I really wonder if I should be supporting an industry that allows itself to be dominated by a tiny minority of crazy, self-righteous, morons on the Internet with no lives of their own.
Sorry u had to go thru that. Must of been difficult.
Sadly, I went right back in the closet and it took me 15 years to come back out. Looking back, it was one experience of many alone the road to self-acceptance. I just rewatched this for the third time and was more deeply moved by the very end than I had been previously, as I identify more with Jun Seok than Jung-hyun.
But it hit harder this time that no matter what choice he makes, Jung-hyun will pay dearly for it. If he continues to ghost Jun Seok and hang with his asshole buddies, he will miss what was developing with Jun Seok. If he chooses Jun Seok, he will be ostracized by his former "smoke" buddies and be the subject of constant rumors and speculation.
Realistically, I think he chooses what feels like the safer route right now...the closet and his clique of homophobes. Such a melancholy ending.

Thank you for saying that, Yes, it was horrible. One of the worst times of my life. I had absolutely no one to talk to about it, and spent five or six months in an intense, near-suicidal depression. In retrospect, that's not very long, but I was much younger and it seemed like forever. I cried half the time and lost 30 pounds. Don't let anyone tell you depression isn't a real illness.
Cryingg this is the 3rd comment ive read talking about breast implant but how did u guys know that👀
If you mean how I recognized an implant instead of a natural breast, they're easy to spot if you know what to look for. :) The fake ones are too stiff, don't move naturally, and often are too large for the small body frame of the actress who has them. The SURE sign is when an actress is lying on her back and the boobs stick straight up in the air like two halves of a cantaloupe, rather than drooping slightly to each side.
There are implants that look natural, but they have to be of high quality and installed by a skilled surgeon. Also, many women simply want boobs that are too big for the space, which results in a tight fit and a rigid appearance.
8.5/10
