To be honest this was pretty boring most of the time. I liked it in the beginning but then it felt like each episode was more of the same. And the ending, I know this is supposed to be based on some folklore or something and I did see the Tragedy tag before I started, but neither can justify that ending for me. It was bad, it was cruel and it was too fanciful for me to take it seriously. The rest of the drama is not even satisfying enough to compensate for that ending.
If you want to watch the full thing plus the second season with eng subs, I know the links and can send them to you in a message. Posting them here would most likely cause the videos/channel to be deleted.
I will start by saying this was NOT the best drama of 2018. BUT it definitely went to the GOOD dramas of this year list. True, there are many clichés and predictable plot devices, specially near the end of the drama. But I have seen many dramas using these and that I was not able to watch. This was corny and cliché but in a way that is enjoyable, I loved the main lead’s romance story and surprisingly I was not disappointed with the ending.
Of course this will not be everyone’s cup of tea since everyone likes different things and factors like the mood, expectations before getting into the drama and if you binge-watch it or take your time to watch it all influence how much you will like or dislike a drama. I was in the right mood, my expectations were in the middle since I had not heard about it before watching it and I started watching it while it was still airing and binge-watched the last 6 episodes and this resulted in me being pleased enough to rate this 8.5.
I actually liked the second half more! I think the show offered something for everyone, hence why its viewership…
Agree, we all like different things. It is not that I don’t like political affairs in the palace and things like that, it is just that I have seen it so many times in so many historical dramas that I was glad this one was different and did not focus too much on that, but then it went in that direction and if it was at least done better, I might have liked it, but they made it quite boring for me. But yeah, I expected a lot more from the last episode too.
Am I the only one having trouble changing this from currently watching to completed? I have finished watching it and here it says this finished airing in 2016, but then it has the green "airing" thing near the title and does not allow me to change this to completed.
I'm on the same boat. I loved the comedy and romance, but I started feeling bored when it got to the political…
I liked the first half a lot more, that’s for sure. It felt so different from all the other historical dramas I have watched. Then, like you said, the focus went into the political affairs and that is when it got boring for me. I do not regret watching it, just wish they had done a better job with the second half and gave us an ending that was satisfying and not one that is there just to wrap up things.
I was really hoping this would not happen, at least not with this one since I was enjoying it so much, but once again it did. They gave us around 10 episodes of awesomeness and sweet romance, then took it all away and gave us 6 episodes of predictable events and the feeling that this ended up being just another historical drama. The ending was also not satisfying, at least not for me. I will give this a 8 considering the first 10 episodes and the overall enjoyment, but I was hoping to give this at least a 9. The other 6 episodes were a little disappointing.
Ridiculously entertaining. Yeah, I used the word ridiculously, just like someone else before me did, because this was ridiculous. But not the kind of ridiculous you see and feel like dropping the drama, it is the kind of ridiculous that is funny and makes you want to keep watching. I guess when you are a good writer you can even make nonsense entertaining. While some have the deepest and most profound plots in their hands and somehow manage to completely mess it up like I have seen happening in so many other dramas. I just wish the 2nd season already had eng subs as I don’t like waiting and will probably end up watching it raw and then watch it again when it has eng subs.
Since this is not for everyone’s taste, if you have watched and liked dramas like The Eternal Love and Go Princess Go, you will probably like this too. Those are the dramas that came to my head while watching this, the stories are completely different but the style is similar.
Do you still want to know when (if at all) she turns back to her old self? I can reply in a spoiler without giving…
Yes. She does turn old but only at the end of the last episode after she kind of fulfilled her dream. They do end up together but that was pretty obvious from the start because even tho her husband was far from the perfect husband, at least in the beginning, its rare to see someone love his wife this much even after 50 years of marriage.
And if you are tired of seeing the female lead chase after the male lead, here it is the other way around. If you like music and a little bit of comedy you will still be able to enjoy this even if you don’t care much for their predictable romance.
P.S. - I noticed you were the same person who commented above and to which I replied, so I guess you already watched this anyway. XD
Ok, so I read the title, looked at the cover and thought: this looks really nice, why is the rating so low? Then I started reading the summary and was even more interested and could not understand the low ratings, until I got to this part: (...)a male harem of about 30 men (...) she can get them pregnant. WHAT?? I now get why it is called Crazy Queen, but thought Crazy Writers would be more appropriate. XD
I finished watching the Chinese drama version today. The actress playing the 70 year old Shen Meng Jun here plays the same role in the drama version. I really liked the drama version so I gave this a try but it was not as good, yet it has a better rating because it is a movie. I thought this was more similar to the Korean movie Miss Granny rather than the Chinese drama version but Miss Granny was a lot better in my opinion. And the drama was the best out of them all if you are willing to invest the time to watch it.
http://aminoapps.com/p/vz1hrvOk, there's a Korean version which is the original movie drama. Chinese version movie…
Well, in all fairness, she did want to kill herself when she swallowed all those pills. But I can understand why you would think this is a bad way to do it. Although I have to say it was the most realistic transformation out of all the others I have watched. And I liked this version better than the other shows with a similar plot be it Korean or Chinese.
I actually liked this way more than I expected. I think this is underrated. My only complaint will probably be the excessive product placement. It was so obvious and happened all the time and with so many products, from what they were drinking to the medication they were taking. But that did not bother me that much, I just could not think of anything else negative to talk about. I gave it a solid 8/10 which I do not give to just any drama and it rarely happens with Chinese ones. I think this definitely deserves a try.
You can watch this subbed, as it was already mentioned, on 4udrama. Some episodes might have broken links so if you want to watch them you might have to do it without subs somewhere else if they don’t fix them until then. Also, if you have previously watched dramas in this website you already know the quality of the translations leave much to be desired, like when referring to a male they will translate it to "she" or "her" and the other way around. Probably because the person who subbed is a native Chinese but not fluent in English. It is still better than watching it raw, so lets be thankful for those subs.
I am not sure if I liked this or if I hated it. The female lead was annoying most of the time and said and did things that usually the mean second female lead would. The male lead was clueless. The romance between them reminds me of when I used to read mangas. It was one of the most used plot lines - you only value something after you have lost it. The second male lead was the punching bag, mainly because of the female lead.
I watched this until the end and some things I liked but I was frustrated most of the time. Although My Huckleberry Friends had less romance, the female lead was a lot better. I am comparing these 2 cause the actress playing the female lead is the same and they are both school dramas.
It was a nice school drama. I liked it and I usually find school dramas boring as I have finished high school some years ago and I can now relate better with dramas with adult main characters rather than teenagers. But, I did find it very slow paced and not as focused on the romance part as I expected so I will probably not re-watch it. For some it might feel like there isn’t much of a plot either, I know I felt that way watching some episodes. But to watch 1 time, it is a pretty good one.
