That's very extreme. I'm shocked that China dramatically downplayed it. My bf just told me that his mom's family was actually killed from this movement (for being rich), and even he had to learn about it outside of school cuz his textbooks didn't give ANY details. He also mentioned that my grandma was not targeted only because she was young, and didn't have much of an educational background (no high school), so she fit the Five Red category.

I can see it now. Even though my grandma came from a farmer background (ideal identity), she was still a middle school teacher, so still easy to frame.

It really depends on your background. I find it so weird that my grandparents never talks about this, because they had political advantage and it never affected them. It's really a terrifying era where 90% of the people persecuted were completely innocent.
