all those episodes and they still don't get a baby in the end, I really would've liked to have them have their…
It would have been wonderful if they had gotten a baby for themselves. but I can understand why they gave Nana and Daiki that ending. I think they were trying to send a message that couples don't have to have children (particularly, biological children) to be happy and it's OK to stop trying. After trying the best they could, Nana and Daiki have all the rights to be as however they want to be. They deserve to be happy and they can achieve that as long as they have each other. They can always adopt a child though. And I think the ending is just perfect.
They put the wrong Jung Jae Eun as the director of this movie though. She's not an actress.
Also, if you like movies like Butterfly Sleep, I recommend checking out Columbus (2017). It's an American movie but directed by a Korean director and it has the same vibe of beauty of Butterfly Sleep.
Gosh, Rika. Why did she have to be that cute?? My heartttt :(((Also 10/10 for music, both soundtrack and theme…
I love Rika so much. She was too good for Kanji, I understand that. But still, it pains me that she couldn’t find her own happiness. Of all the characters she was the one that deserved to be happy the most :((
Upon my second time watching, i spotted something that i’d like to believe it was an easter egg from the screenwriter - Nojima Shinji. At around 9:59 of Episode 1, a painting is being displayed at the exhibition and it was the same painting made by the character Fumiya from Hitotsu Yane no Shita (1993), another drama written by Nojima Shinji.
Fumiya’s painting made its reappearance 6 years later in another Nojima Shinji’s work - Lipstick (1999). it was displayed in an exhibition at around 9:59 in Episode 1 of Lipstick. I believe it was to suggest that Fumiya’s painting finally won something. Nice easter egg, as a fan it was exciting to spot that detail.
As for my thoughts on this drama, I found the character design very interesting. Not only the hairstyles and outfits distinguish everyone and their personality but also the use of colors is really fascinating, like how Koyuki mostly wears white outfits and Rina (the actress in Masaya’s hospital) mostly wears red outfits, showing the contrast of their personalities. And I could go on about the other characters as well.
Why is it that only 3 are named in the cast here? There were a lot of actors and actresses in the cast, including Sakurai Sachiko and Mikami Hiroshi who were the usual faces in Nojima Shinji’s dramas. I heard this one was really good. Not sure why it’s still not subbed and got so overlooked. I’d like to watch it someday. Please let me know if it’s being engsubbed somewhere.
if you're interested in the soundtracks, i suggest getting them from iTunes. it has 2 albums, the first one is named "Chugakusei Nikki Original Soundtrack" (28 tracks) and the second one is "Chugakusei Nikki Original Soundtrack Vol.2" (10 tracks). I'm sure you can find some of the tracks from Vol.1 anywhere but Vol.2 isn't widely shared. And trust me, the OST from this drama worth every damn penny. Like, i'm a sucker for film soundtracks/scores and i can't even remember when was the last time i heard an OST album this beautiful.
omg Hitomi (Kamiya’s girlfriend) was played by Hamasaki Ayumi!!!! I finished the whole drama and didn’t even realize who she was lmao she was so cute in this drama.
i can't believe i was going to drop this drama after Ep.2 because Hiro seemed to be too much of an annoying character, i doubted i could enjoy the drama. God, i'm so glad i didn't drop it. Starting from Ep.7, i couldn't stop crying til the end of the drama. Most of the main characters, they were too beautiful for the world they lived in TT__TT And the ending felt like a dream, i'm still not sure if that ending was real or not. i think i'm gonna write a review for this drama when my head has cooled down. I cried so much my head hurts lol

Also 10/10 for music, both soundtrack and theme song. Probably the best original theme song of all 90s’ dorama i’ve watched so far.
