Yeah, but both Lu Yi in the drama and Ren Jialun show the same calmness when facing an opponent. Watching a well loved drama together with like-minded viewers is the most enjoyable thing, and I wish you had joined us during those amazing months in Summer 2019. Every episode was dissected and discussed, every emotion and expression were analyzed and zoomed-in, every BTSs were watched and relished, thousands of mashups, fan-fics, fan-vids were created. We comforted each other how to move on after this drama; many didn't want to move on, comfortable to remain in this rabbit hole together. Those were the best times which I, and many others, still reminisce until today. So, I'd have to say, if I had not been together with this group of amazing Suibians (The Untamed fans), I might have felt exactly how you're feeling now, wondering if I'm missing something. Yes, so true about how AvenueX judges a drama. I do follow her occasionally, and I find myself not agreeing with her on taste as far as dramas are concerned. Some dramas she rated high (such as The Eternal Love 1 & 2), for me they're just .. meh, though I like Liang Jie's acting a lot.
Though I try to ignore rating, I'd have to admit I do use it to vet through the dramas I want to watch because there are just too many. For me, I'd skip anything below an 8, especially for the archived dramas.

I do agree with you on some of the poor CGIs (not all are bad) and some plot holes here and there, given this drama was made under a very small budget comparatively. I've not even heard of the author before this drama, nor knew any of the main leads. I still gave it a 10 because I found this is the only drama that has touched me so deeply - it makes me laugh, cry, ache - all at the same time. It gives the most beautiful visual effects that easily matches TMOPB - that celestial feelings. It has the best OSTs that I've ever listened to, and there are many of them, vocal or instrumental. I love how subtle the production team injected the BL elements into the whole story without putting off any viewers. I'm even amazed by how I find out certain meanings and emotions by repeated viewings; it's like peeling an onion (not the part that tears up your eyes, well, you know what I mean). I love the chemistry between the main leads, whether on screen or off screen. I do love TMOPB and Nirvana in Fire for different reasons, but both hadn't touched me the way The Untamed has.
BTW, thank you for introducing "I Shall Seal The Heaven" here. Like you, I'm a great wuxia/xianxia fan. Upon preliminary checking out, this looks like a wonderful novel. Do you have the novel in Chinese or any direct links to the novel? Thanks so much!

Yeah, he's my favorite antagonist so far. Too bad they kill him off so swiftly.
