Title The Untamed Spoiler
His own golden core. It was a painful process and rendered himself weak and powerless.
BTW, using a flute is even more powerful than a sword, and aesthetic wise, it simply so beautiful.

He stays 'weak' throughout when it comes to hard fighting. Have no worries. He's protected at all times by Lan Zhan and Wen Ning. He can protect himself too with his new found skills. He just cannot hold a sword anymore, ever.

For me, if a drama or an actor is hunting me, I'll watch the bts and the songs, then u get a tiny bit detached…
Yes, yes, yes! Great advice!

Gosh the leads have AMAZING chemistry! Thank goodness they were able to convey the love they had for one another…
Let me continue your rant XD. Lan Zhan protects Wei Ying every time the latter gets attacked. Countless times, he puts himself in front of the swords, or unfriendly people. He has a cold face, but often, when Wei Ying says something he likes, you'll see the very little tilt at the corner of his lips.

Right now, I have a tough time accepting Xiao Zhan, our Wei Ying, is falling in love with Yang Zi in another drama. The visual of them together is too much. Our poor Lan Zhan T_T.

I recommend reading the novel (beware of smut though), watching the donghua, watching the BTS, reading the manhua,…
Have you tried make yourself some lotus soup, or eat some lotus seeds? XD XD XD

To truly enjoy this drama (like we, the fans, do), don't let your preconception get in the way; don't pre-judge…
One more thing about this drama, do not compare it to the novel and anime or manhua/manga. Just take it as itself.

Many of the c-dramas are very good, especially the historical/costume ones. I just love them.
You've said it so well. Absolutely agree. Too bad the Chinese Government is clamping down on historical dramas. In many ways, they (the dramas) consist of so much political stuff that the government feels they are criticizing it (the government). It's most unfortunate, because what many historical dramas portray are pretty true as in government corruption, political persecution, oligarchy government etc.

The drama was really not clear about this, I only understood after reading the comments and the novel. Idk why…
That's one of the subtleties we're talking about.

It's a very niche market. Not many appreciate the amount of work behind a historical drama - the costumes, palaces, cities, etc. I don't believe other countries are capable in producing such dramas in such rate.

To truly enjoy this drama (like we, the fans, do), don't let your preconception get in the way; don't pre-judge this drama.

Don't judge it on its technical aspects (eg. CGI etc - actually the gingerbread man aka Flat Stanley is pretty well done). Look at the characters themselves, especially Wei Ying and Lan Zhan. Both are very lovable and given life by the two incredible actors. Look at the relationships between Wei Ying and Lan Zhan, Wei Ying and his adoptive sister (Shi Jie), Wei Ying and Jiang Chen, Wen Qing and Wen Ning and many others. There are so much love, concerns and sacrifices one makes for another. Look at its aesthetics, the flow of the characters' hair and gowns, their flying and playing the musical instruments.

Those are the most beautiful parts for me and why I have enjoyed this drama so much. With the whole thing, listen to the beautiful sound tracks. Each tells a beautiful story.

If with all these, one still doesn't enjoy this drama, then too bad. Like Wei Ying says, "Whatever."

Yep! I'm doing 3 things concurrently:

1. Re-watching the drama
2. Read the novel
3. Watch the anime

Helps me to understand some of the things that got cut or edited in the drama. Also helps me in catching some of the very subtleties that I may have missed.

Never know I would love a bromance / BL like this.

One of the actors that act as jin ling get blackened now because his ex-girlfriend bringing ultimate bomb news…
How is his ex-girlfriend slandering him? Of course he comes to our notice because of this drama. Likewise for Xiao Zhan and Wang Yibo. I didn't even know them before this drama. What's wrong with that? What did he do that his ex-girlfriend wants to hurt him?

Just finished watching this drama the second time. This time, very slowly, trying to catch every nuance. And I still laugh at the funny scenes, and cry like a baby when it comes to Wei Wu Xian's sacrifices, false accusations by others, and injustices he has to endure as if I'm watching the first time. All his emotions simply resonate in my heart. Man, what a wonderful character and what a wonderful actor.

The character songs are amazing. Read the lyrics. They help us understand the characters even better.
