Yes, I'm hooked to this drama which was almost dropped initially because I was too impatient. The opening of the drama put me off, but then 2 episodes in, I was hooked.
I love the seriousness of this drama. There are no annoying, stupid nor silly characters. No stupid exchanges. No unnecessary misunderstandings except those that due to the flaws of the characters themselves. There is good character development.
The sword fight choreography is simply beautiful, so authentic and gracious. The wushu scenes are executed almost flawlessly with beautiful and elegant sequences and postures by the main leads. There are no stupid colorful fireworks (literally) when people fight, just real authentic sounds and movements.
The romance is intense and sensual, and the hatred is convincing. The second male lead plays a controversial character which adds colors to the story; most viewers hate and love him. I love the story with strong male leads and strong female lead. It is so satisfying to see a strong female lead who is kind and at the same time, has the ability to protect herself and others because she can really fight (tired of those girls who try to be heroines but put others into danger trying to protect them).
One can tell the production team has put in a lot of effort in taking care of the details. There are not that many holes and mismatched timeline. It is a drama well done.
I would probably expect them to run away. If they stayed I would probably feel embarrassed knowing my partner…
For me, if I put myself in the other shoe, I would be devastated to find out the person I love has not spent his final precious time with me because he tries to spare me the pain of his leaving the world. I would have wanted the pain for my eternal memory of him.

I guess different men love differently. For Wu You, his love is to let go. For Fu Chou, his is possessive. We may consider the 2nd type of love not real love. But in real life, this seems to be the type of love we experience with many men. I rarely see Wu You's type of love.
If you think that he has it bad, RL has it much much worse from the women in her life:- Her "mother", aka RQ's…
Yeah, but compared with Fu Chou, Rong Le always comes out unscathed or even when she's hurt, her hurt can be remedied. For Fu Chou, everything seemingly works out good for him, turns sour. This happens almost every single time, over and over again. I guess that's how this character captures our heart. We feel for him because we may encounter similar situations in our daily life, well, as an analogy of course.
The writer is so cruel to Fu Chou. He makes wrong choices in almost everything he does and everywhere he goes, including getting in bed with the wrong woman, and later poisoning the wrong one :( To give an analogy, it's like me driving on the street, every turn I make is a wrong one: I should have turned sooner when I miss the turn, or later when I turn too soon; I should have taken a left turn instead of a right turn, and vice versa. Sigh! Poor Fu Chou. No wonder he's so bitter and frustrated.
What would you do if you know you have very little time left to live:
1 - Forsake your love, hurt him, let him hate you, only for him to find out later that you do it to protect him but you're already gone, leaving him with regrets, or 2 - Spend every available second you have with him, leaving him the best possible memories he has with you.
I cannot fathom option 1; it's so cruel. Option 2 makes life worth living. But most stories choose option 1. It makes me want to strangle the writers.
28 episodes in, this drama is so good. I almost missed it for being impatient. If you're like me, couldn't get into the water in the first episode, press on, don't give up. It is serious, and it is good. No silly and stupid characters nor bad exchanges, yet, at least.
Strong female and male leads, really my cup of tea.

I do. Much that I dislike General Fu for his scheming and being creepy, I feel sorry for him; his love for one woman is true and unwavering, and his generosity towards her is only rivaled by Wu You. He has a harden heart, and yet she is his Achilles' heel. The writer is good for this character that he/she has made Fu Chou a character we hate and yet love at the same time.
When I started this thread, I only just started watching this drama. I had no idea how each character plays out. Yes, now I realize Wu You did have some character issues in the beginning, albeit not an unforgivable one, not as bad as Rong Qi and Fu Chou.
I really enjoy this drama, although I dropped it initially. A kind viewer here convinced me to continue. I'm glad I listened to her advice and very thankful to her.
