Yup, it is sooo good! Though after rewatching it I felt like the first 30 minutes of the show is far too unbelievably good compared to the rest. Don't get me wrong, as a whole it is super awesome. Love the wonderkids, it was the best coming of age show after Battle Royale (though I love Kirishima Bukatsu more). I hope Japanese acting scene make more of movies like this

Haven't seen Gozu and Imprint, perhaps I'll watch it someday. I envy you, guess having a BF/GF who share the same hobby is a of lot fun. Too bad very few loves Japanese Movie and series in my town :(

I've been watching some airing mainstream shows like Miss Pilot (coz I'm an aviation enthusiast), Henshin Interviewer (Satoshi Miki's newest work) and Hard Nut. While the latter 2 is pretty good (so far but not that spectacular, though), the former is largely disappointing and lacked depth and soul in it.

Atami is so much a slow-burner drama, it takes 6 first episodes to create such buildup to be blown up in latter episodes. Remember, everything CAN happen in this drama because there are no boundaries between reality and surrealism. Well, few people in dramaland can accept this one.

Techijin sounds good, but I haven't watch it. Too much episodes and taiga is not my cup of tea. Anyway, I do plan to watch Saigo no Chuusingura because reviews say it really good.

I'd suggest Marks no Yama, Gonzo and Gaiji Keisatsu

LOL it also cracked me up. My favorite Satoshi Miki's work is Jikou Keisatsu though, it is much a light comedy but it can turn crazy funny. Super recommended for Satoshi Miki fans

This is a very good example of what terminal or disabling disease dramas should be made. And the ending is one of the best I've ever seen (I'm still shivering while I remember the ending)

Anyone who says GTO 2012 and its spawns good MUST watch this show. I'd say the Sorimachi's GTO is a world apart from the pale, soulless sequel that many MDLers proud of

Yup, nonsense jokes and quirky detail (which many of them are not closely related to the story itself) is his hallmark. Some may find them useless and even sometimes I said to myself "what the hell", but at second thought I find it funny. He is no straightforward scriptwriter at all so that one has to think twice to understand what he wants to convey.

If you want to find more Satoshi Miki's stuff, Jikou Keisatsu (and the sequel Kaette Kita Jikou Keisatsu) and Atami no Sousakan are worth watching. The former is episodic series, while the latter is focused in one story and has darker tone.

Regarding Ore Ore, I think this is Satoshi Miki's darkest work (though the 1st half is funny), can't imagine how scary it is if you are trapped in the same circumstances as the main character does.

Yes, Sekai Chuusin is indeed heavy and sobering. Love what young Yuusha did in the show, one of his better projects at his youth. However, your comment makes me craving to rewatch this amazing drama, it's been many years since I first encountered it back when I was in college.

I guess you find Ore Ore too confusing and eccentric (and it was super wacky), anyway have you watched Satoshi Miki's works prior to Ore Ore? If so, we can easily relate them each other because he has unique sense of comedy and not everyone can grasp his way of thinking. Along with Takashi Miike and Kudo Kankuro, he is one of the most unique director-scriptwriter in Japan today IMHO.
