I totally agree with you. I love the main couple but the ones who truly stand out in my opinion are Zhang Yiqin…
Absolutely. The main couple were adorable and of course I rooted for them. But Miles Wei and Zhang Yaqin played these complicated, difficult characters and were definitely the most memorable for me.
You Zhen was horrible and vile but Zhang Yaqin played her with such sincerity that you couldn't help but understand her as a woman of her time. She grew up with such privilege but with a power hungry father and her fate entirely out of her control. All of her actions were so incredibly understandable, even if I hated her for them. Zhang Yaqin is one of the most underrated actresses of her gen for real. She does not overact at all, it's all so subtle and human. I really loved her portrayal of this haughty, insecure, but ultimately powerless princess.
This hairpin misunderstanding is going to be the death of me!! Their relationship has been going so well and their communication is so good, whyyy add this I hate it
If she had support she wouldn't be acting in these type of roles
No one's sabotaging her. She's from a rich family and is doing just fine. You can like A Girl Like Me and Sweet Combat, but they are objectively bad dramas. AGLM has a 5.5 on douban and SC has a 2.8. There's no way any other actress who did such bad dramas would be put on the same level as Yang Zi, Zhou Dongyu, and Zheng Shuang. I'm not saying they're all good actresses, but they had insane commercial success and popularity that GXT didn't earn.

She was named one of the four dan actresses despite her bad roles and bad acting. She was nowhere near the level of success that the other three had at the time. Nepotism played a part in that.
MDL has the faultiest rating system. look at cdramas. all have aove 8.5 averages while the dramas are mediocre…
Honestly, kdramas deserve the lower ratings. Kdrama ratings used to all be so insanely inflated, it was impossible to know what was actually good on mdl. I wish it would happen to cdramas too. It's crazy how low the standards are for high ratings on this site. I miss back in the 2010s when ratings for cdramas used to mean something. Only like the very best cdramas had 8.5+ ratings in the past.
I liked the personalities of all of the characters. The dynamic in the office between all of the coworkers was fun and light. The leads had good chemistry. BUT that's about all of the good. The story was so boring. The business side of things in the majority of kdramas is usually ass and that was no exception here. If you're going to have relationships and chemistry be the driving force of a drama, then let it be just that. Don't add in a bunch of mediocre boring storylines. And don't get me started on the childhood connection thing. Such a stupid contrived conflict. 6.5 because I really do love the leads, especially Han Jimin. She's wonderful in everything I've seen of hers and that was true here as well. Just wish she had better material to work with.
Avenuex basically isn’t into CY. Even MLC couldn’t impress her. So don’t expect too much when she reviews…
I haven't started this drama yet but I'm the same. I will always prefer the actual actor's voice. I love Cheng Yi, he definitely has the tragic hero thing down perfectly.

Her opinions crack me up because she's just so inconsistent. Things she'll tear one drama apart for she'll completely let slide in others because of some bias she has. She also flip flops. I remember a while back she had a video where she mentioned how she actually prefers voice dubbing from voice actors instead of the actual actors. And how she supposedly had experience herself in this field >.>. But now she docks points from dramas if the actors don't dub themselves. She's really not an objective critic, I take all of her opinions with a grain of salt.
really? that is sickening. I really can’t watch pedo stuff. I’m so angry they put the actor in this situation.…
Well, no. She's the kid here. At 17 everyone thinks they're mature and almost an "adult." She probably doesn't see an issue with it at all because she doesn't have the experience of growing older yet to see how creepy it is. It's all of the adults around her who know better who should have never let this happen. I am especially disgusted with the production crew because apparently their other top choice was Huang Yang Tian Tian who is also super young. Despite the fact that HMH was already signed for the ML which means they always wanted someone that young with him. They didn't care about acting ability or even looks, they just wanted someone young which is so vile. Because there are plenty of girls in their 20s who look young enough for the role
I love JSM I think she is a great actress and I love her in Romcom's she is really good at them. I am so confused…
Yeah I agree. People saying that are probably newer fans who have only watched kdramas for the past few years. She's done plenty of different genres and types of characters throughout her career.
I'm really glad to see that most of the people in the comments are normal and against this pairing. It's disgusting to watch a near 30 year old man be attracted to a 17 year old girl. Call it acting. Call it professional. I don't care. I don't care if there are no kisses. I don't care what their supposed ages are in the drama. I don't care if it's a historical setting. What we see on screen is a grown man in a romantic relationship with a young girl. That is the bottom line and it's disgusting. This should be disturbing for any normal adult to watch. If we saw a grown man with a young girl in real life it would make everyone uncomfortable. If you are out here defending this completely unnecessary pairing, wtf is wrong with you?
The point of these silly chinese romances is for us the audience to swoon and kick our feet watching the couple be sweet or passionate or whatever. If your heart flutters watching a teenager with a grown man, you should seek help.
You might start with blaming the author Jin Yong. When Liu Yifei was cast as FL Xiao Long Nu in Jin Yong's classic…
Holy shit. You really pulled out the "hebephile" defense that predatory internet bros love to use. Anyone who has to bring out the dictionary definition of pedo to use in an argument is so extremely sus. You're really weird.
Nope, this is no longer based on that novel (the summary on MDL is wrong). It is considered a separate IP now…
I appreciate you informing us of the novel changes but I have to dispute your last point. Reba is a minority. There are such limited roles available that are actually her specific ethnicity. It is not the same comparing a minority playing a han person versus a person who is han taking a role that is specifically a different ethnicity. The vast majority of roles are han, there's no shortage of those for han people. The comparison you made is not equal.
But did Shen Cheng exist in the end? I couldn’t really understand that scene.Maybe I’m being petty but I was…
Not really soon. Shen Cheng was 27 in 2026 meaning he was born in 1999 which is 8 years after the incident. 8 years of thinking someone is dead is plenty of time to be ready to have another relationship.
MDL ratings have been a joke for about a year now. They aren't reliable at all
I'm glad more people are liking dramas! More fans has made companies actually prioritize subtitles. Chinese dramas getting subbed used to be a STRUGGLE lmao. The only downside is this website has gotten a lot crazier 😭
