Four episodes in and I already find their romantic chemistry far better than I ever did with IU and Yeo Jin Goo in Hotel Del Luna. They never really worked for me, especially since she had much better chemistry with Lee Do Hyun in the story from the past in the drama.

It's pretty clearly anti-colonialist-Japan, as it should be. But that doesn't mean it's anti-current-Japan. Just as critical movies about Nazi Germany are not anti-German. It's just against war crimes.

I like that they chose this option, making it clear it's a character quirk that's unrelated to product placement. They could've easily had her use an actual brand instead (though maybe some of them would have had an issue with it being a demon's trademark 🤣)

Believe it or not, but your personal taste is not a bellwether for whether or not his projects are good. WWWSK was a massive success, cemented his aura (if you will) and remains a top 10 most popular drama on this site. Itaewon Class is still one of the highest rated cable dramas on Korean TV, broke records on Netflix, and was nominated for a number of Baeksang Awards, including a Best Actor nomination for PSJ. And Gyeongseong Creature is currently the most-consumed non-American tv show in the world, #3 globally on Flixpatrol, in the top 10 of over 70 countries WW. Few actors can point to their three most recent projects having this much impact.

You keep suggesting that the decisions by the writer "add complexity" and "add more dimension to the narrative" but what good is that if viewers just find it frustrating? And if those choices mean that they're not even really buying the romance the drama is (finally) trying to sell? Complexity for the sake of complexity is pointless if it alienates viewers from the characters.

Definitely. It felt one-sided leading up to the romance too, so I guess it's not too surprising that Seunghyo is carrying the actual romance on his back too. What I didn't expect was that even their kissing would feel one-sided, especially with good BTS chemistry. But then they also still read more like siblings than lovers to me, so...

Your reply has nothing to do with OP wishing we got more of FL's perspective on things. That has nothing to do with "melodramatism" or "magic", but simply balance. Because now the relationship very much feels like it lacks that to many of us.

It is a bit strange. It's not like it was a huge hit either, and audience reviews were only so-so. Then they also lost their lead actor. And still they pushed forward. Doubt it'll make much noise, though I hope it'll do well in Korea so Kim Sung-cheol can get more ML offers.

The child actor who plays Jiho is excellent. Has he been in anything else? Can't see him in the cast list.
