First, while it’s true that FlixPatrol compiles top 10 rankings rather than raw viewership data, this does not…
Global by definition must mean more than a handful of countries in a single continent, no matter how verbose one is about it. That it comprises over half the world's population is also irrelevant in this context when we don't have any "data" (ie top 10 lists) from China or India. (Though the crux remains that we don’t have actual viewer data at all.)

Disney+ have only really had one true global hit with a Korean drama, in terms of influence and reach, though a few others have done quite well. As for Knock-Off, its impact remains to be seen. Disney+ seem to be treating it as their 2025 flagship, and will likely spend a lot on promotion. But nothing is guaranteed. Except the fact that Flixpatrol will be an awful metric to measure it by next year as well.

1) It’s not a competitive environment; that is the point. Disney+ don’t have a lot of attractive, new content. You just have to look at the rest of the top 10 list. It’s either old films or dramas that finished airing weeks ago hanging on.

2) Nobody is dismissing Asia, but you can’t call something a “global” hit when it trends in five countries in *one* continent, that’s just not how words work.

3) Based on flawed Flixpatrol data, we can say anything about this drama’s real global impact, nor even its impact in Asia as there is no actual viewer data; for that we’d need to use other metrics.

I don’t think that argument holds up. If a show is #1 in multiple countries, doesn’t that automatically mean…
In fact my comments have very little to do with Gangnam B-Side (which I have no investment in), but more the general uselessness of Flixpatrol, especially with the limited data available for Disney+. It's a very flawed site in general.

And surely there should be room for such views in a comment section where Flixpatrol data is used. I'm sure the usual JCW fans are right around the corner to make this comment section the usual lovefest, so I wouldn't worry about that. Wookie is on their way, I'm sure. :)

You can hit #1 in a small country like Greece with little difficulty when there's virtually nothing else new on the list, just various old movies and few things that are high-profile. It says nothing about how many people are actually watching. Just that it's more people than those who are rewatching Home Alone or Moana that specific day.

Asia is massive, but when Flixpatrol only shows top 10 lists for 5 (!) countries there (and again it says nothing about actual viewership), the data is close to worthless.

If you instead look at Google Trends, you will see a clearer picture of global impact.

Is this the guy who cried in front of Park Bo Gum because he didn't get the role of Kang Chul in W: Two Worlds?…
Sounds like you're projecting.

How is Jeon Jong Seo a rising star, she is 30 and has already made her name. Most of these actors are pretty big…
She's 30, won the Best Actress Baeksang 3.5 years ago and led two high profile dramas this year, but is somehow still a rising star? Come on, her breakthrough with Burning was 6 years ago...

This really made no noise, huh? I had hoped it would at least raise Kim Sung-cheol's profile, but he didn't even gain any Instagram followers; that's how you know a release has gone by entirely unnoticed.

Most random list ever, but I guess the writers are big fans of All of Us Are Dead. 🤣

I would definitely have included someone like Bae Hyeon-seong who had an excellent year with Gyeongseong Creature 2, Family by Choice and cameos in Hellbound 2 and Love Your Enemy.

Other rising (male) stars arguably more prominent than the ones mentioned in this article would be young actors like Choi Hyun-wook, Moon Sang-min, Lee Chae-min, Lee Jung-ha and so on.

Also insane to not list Jeon Jong-seo's best work (Burning) as a recommended work.

Pretty sure a KSH project at tvN would jump the queue either way. But I don't mind JTBC.

Title Knock Off
I was really hoping knock off will be released on first half of 2025 but they will be filming it till May 2025…
If they are filming all 18 episodes back to back, S1 may still premiere in first half of the year.
