In the beginning, the story feels like being dragged and I can't find myself to like Sun Mi (I dislike her passive-aggressive nature it makes her lack any backbones). The romance was pretty off in the beginning and forced. I was also disappointed with the drama because I have my OWN expectations, especially the Sun Wo Kong's portrayal. In this drama, LSG did a good job in portraying the angry monkey king but he failed to add the monkey characteristic. (Maybe I'm being harshed because of my love of Journey to the West 1996 which has the best monkey king ever). LSG is too stoic here (even his previous act as Kang Chi in Gu Family Book is more lively). However, I can't put all the blame on LSG. I think the Hong sisters and the directors also have some share of faults here. Sun Wo Kong is strong, troublemaker and really really smart. He always able to find unusual solutions which I can't find here.
Another thing I don't like is the fact they put the usual CEO/Rich/Celebrity sprinkle in the drama. :(
What makes me continue:
After a while, I realize I should approach this drama from a different perspective. The Journey to the West original story is about a journey to go forward from many tribulations and used to teach children about kindness and perseverance. However, this drama is fully intended for romance. ROMANCE. YES>
Second, is my love for all the sides characters. Esp Ma Wang. He truly steals the show, for me. Cha Seung Won performance was brilliant. I can see the bull demon king character from him. His stubbornness especially! I also like Buja and PK story.
Third, Sun Mi finally shows more backbones and become a more loveable character after some character growth.
Last, the story does get more interesting after half of the story. Even if you already know the tale of Journey to the West and you are able to predict most of the story (like I did), you will still be hooked with the story about Sun Wo Kong's and Sun Mi's story end.
Overall, its a good drama. I will recommend this to anyone who loves fantasy romance.

Thanks for the Director to pick up such an amazing story and put up a great adaptation.
The love story between Lanzhan and WeiYing is one of its kind. They are just a perfect fit for each other. Although China censorship does not allow any BL content, the Director really manages to take great risks to keep up the true essence of the story with incredible directing and actings. Without any confession, LanZhan unconditional love can be felt. He loves WeiYing with all his hearts and he shows it with clear actions. It will be nice if this drama can be remade sometime in the future when china censorship has lessened their censor for certain things. But I'm still quite satisfied with this.Nevertheless, the BL content is not the best part of this drama (I do enjoy good BL, but this drama offers more than that). What I love the most is the fact that there are many interesting characters and each of them is really complex. Both the villain and protagonist have their own faults, bad and good. You will feel ache and sympathize with each of them.

The drama told a story about the life of Shuzaku Kitazawa and his family. His family had bad personalities, cared about appearance and they never treated him kindly. Each episode is very bizarre but entertaining with every kind of antics that his family brings and Shusaku ended up being the person who had to commit crimes to solve the problem without being appreciated. I find the drama is quite refreshing and unique. I like Yamada's funny expression and he acted very well. Although I find some of the jokes can be quite overwhelming and sometimes too ridiculous.Like why they have to treat him badly to the point that it did not make sense at all? Shusaku too had a slave mentality about his own family. At the near end of the series, there is one surprising fact about Shusaku true identity and why he had always been different. The ending was somewhat unexpected and had a bittersweet ending. Although I wish there are more scenes to show the changed in the new Kitazawa family. But Japanese drama had always preferred a subtle ending.
In conclusion, the drama is entertaining. It's a good drama to watch when you want to see something that makes you laugh.

Romance is a bonus in life
The story is about the relationship between Kang Dan I and Cha Eun Ho. They met by chance when they were younger and had been close friends for years. Unbeknown to Dan I, Eun Ho harbored feelings for her since he was young. However, he knew that Dan I did not like him back, so he stayed as her little brother figure in her life. He watched over her from afar, as she got married and assumed she had a good life with her husband. However, it turned out that Dan I had a messy divorce with her husband, who left her for his mistress. She then struggled to find jobs after being unemployed for many years, despite her past work experience and stellar academic scores. Then the story continued on how Dan I learned to stand on her feet back into society, making a career, re-discovering herself, and finding love as a bonus.

It's season 2 and even better
The acting and characterization of each character are even deeper and better. The transition between the different seasons is quite smooth. Some stories are even darker and also interesting. The main character, the Master is still the same as ever. Coming into season 2, I feel that I get to know his character much more. He is a very sympathetic person. Sometimes in the borderline between being too involved or just watching by the side. Both mostly he always listen to all his customer's problems.

Its a surreal experience
How do I say this? I was watching this drama without any expectations. I was in the mood of watching JDrama when I realize that this drama is quite popular on Netflix with a lot of seasons. Usually, it's pretty rare for JDrama to have many seasons unless it is highly popular in Japan. And I can see why this drama is very popular, to the point that China, Korea, and I think Thailand? also try to make their own version (but of course they failed? That's what I heard I didn't see their version yet so I can't comment on this.)Based on manga (I did not read it yet), it told about random people who come into the Meshiya, a diner that only opened at midnight to morning. There are only 3 regular menus and the Master will cook any dish that the customer requested as long as he has the ingredients. Each person had a different story that will be associated with one dish that they order.
The story can be quite dark sometimes but can be also hopeful. The main theme of the drama is slice of life, there is some romance, but it's very little. There are things about growth and up and downs of life. this drama might not be for everyone's taste. This drama is very good for people who like watching some dramas that can make you reflect. Another thing, this drama is also good for people who like to cook. At the end of each eps, the Master will show you the recipe of the dish.
Overall it's a good drama. I'm currently watching season 3. Although the pace is repetitive, but each story is quite unique from one another. I haven't feel bored yet after watching 23 eps.

The story is simple and can be cliche. Luo Zhi has an unrequited love for Hainan since their highschool days. They went to the same university and finally met again. This time, they hit it off right away. Luo Zhi is the typical stubborn, introverted but actually soft-hearted girl. The romance did not start smoothly. But bypassing each hurdle, Lu Zhi and Hainan grew together. The drama is simple and kind of short. But it contains what it needs without any feeling of being incomplete. The resolution arc has less impact. But overall the drama is very enjoyable to watch. I really love the simplicity of the drama. A lot of drama nowadays are made with too many effects and scenes just for fan service. The simplicity of the cinematography actually brings in more emotion which makes it beautiful. This is also a type of drama that can make you want to rewatch it again and again. Was this review helpful to you?

Nirvana in Fire Season 2: The Wind Blows in Chang Lin

One great thing about this drama is the fact that most of the characters are brilliantly smart. Even the female characters are smart too. (I die hard for smart character). The villain as well, you can even relate and took pity on them. It's not like the villain are born to be a villain. But sometimes circumstances made them do what they do. In the end, this drama has become one of my most fav drama ever.
