There's nothing to clear for Shen family's name. Both Shen and Lin did something that the current king (at that time a regent duke) didn't like. It was brought up in court to the king, and the king then was petty and wanted to exact revenge. Lin decided to survive, so the old master retracted what he said in a way, retired his official position and ml married the king's favoured official's granddaughter. Shen decided not to apologize or do anything bc they were too righteous. So the King executed all of Shen's family etc.

Even if ml informed Shen family of what was heppening, the results would've been the same for Shen knowing how their personality was. They would've still not apologize and go back on their words. They would've still be executed. There is no revenge arc, there never was in the novel and there won't be in this drama.

The drama shows the fl's lifespan of 60years.

kdrama are like 1hr 30mins long an ep, that's basically 2 eps of cdrama. So overall it's 30-32 eps in kdrama.

Same, I love checking chinese media on what viewers discuss, they give so much insight and details since it's their culture. I learn much more, for e.g. when fl was looking at those flowers on the branches, it's bc her bio mom's name was named after those flowers. So she must've thought of her and when she was reaching her hands high up most likely to reach closer to her mom. It gave her strenght to carry on after the ml forced her to be his spy.

Bc of the culture, language, lack of historical knowledge barrier, intl viewers don't have this insight. It's a shame bc intl viewers sometimes can only understand on a superficial surface.

I'm a bit sad of zxt's demise in a way. Her family sucks, her dad doesn't care about her life, wheather she's dead or not and her mom is useless. I'm proud of her having a back spine to retort back and threaten her dad, I want her dad fuming until his blood pressure is too high and he faints.

What you talking about haha. I love those slow scenes, I get to admire the camera work, the set up and beauty. The past few years, there's less and less of this kind of drama. I'm trying to take in as much detail as I can.

The drama script is so well done from the novel's adaptation. I didn't notice this association until I read a post. In the novel, fl's younger sister, Jialian-she had a tragic ending. She was saved by ml's bff, who was also from a prominent family. She was raised in his household and later became his concubine, gave birth to a son and suicide to clear her name bc that man's main wife framed her. In the drama, the maid named Xiaolian was strong and clear on not being a concubine and main wife only. So this adaptation, the writer chose to save JiaLian from her fate.

if Jialian would end up ending her life either way, I think the drama gave her mercy. She died in the arms of her loving mother, and didn't have to endure those years being bullied and ridiculed in her rescuer's household.

Not in this drama, this drama included pleasuring and servicing men. In Ming dynasty, fallen noble women were basically state prostitudes that only serviced noble men. In the era of Zhu Di, that's exactly what happend.

I can't believe Zhao family doesn't allow their females to be literate. I understand it's so that their women don't have an opinion and just blindly follow what their husbands, fathers want of them. But common, not being literate would be ridiculed in some noble familes. I get women can't go to school, but typically families would have teachers go to their manors to teach.

I actually hope Madam (ml's wife) can get divorced and be free of constraints. Live her life with her lover.

Not really. You can already see how ml's dad is. He's too full of himself, he likes others boasting him and his family. He's too loud and obnoxious. Hi grandpa didn't say anything but he gave a look and was silent when ml asked grandpa if they should inform shen family. Grandpa's silence was the answer-not to do anything. Meaning don't inform Shen family.

Ml ofc knew the engagement would be off, in order for him to marry the Zhao family and to cut ties with Shen. Ml prob doesn't have much interaction with fl back then anyways, given the gener roles where noble females can't meet men that's not of their family. Ml wasn't betrayed by his dad regarding this breaking off engagement. ml doesn't love his wife bc his wife didn't respect him during their wedding night, she said she had menstrual cycle and couldn't consumate the marriage. (in the novel, after consummating the marriage, fl didn't bleed, which indicated she wasn't a virgin. So ml found out about it and from then on he hated her). Plus she had many affair behind his back.

Did yall notice ml deson't like or respect his dad much. During the treason crises, ml asked grandpa if they should inform shen family. When his dad qucked like a duck yapping not to, ml ignored him and only listened to his granpa. Then fast forward 6yr later, when ml comes back to lin manor ml doesn't give the time of day to his dad. Also, another detail is that his father is probably dumb, at his age he was only a 7th rank official, so probably his official position was bought given granpa's 2nd rank official.
