There was a premise for a great rom-com in this drama but all that went into crap in the way characters, especially FL was developed.
No criticism of the actress, she is a fabulous actress. Even in this drama she shines brightly & when she is on screen, she just takes over.
The character she played though is what it is - a monkey.
Some may find it tough but a simple golden test would be enough to understand what I am saying. The golden test is here switch the genders of FL and ML.
Let us now see how the ML would be like after the roles are revered per gender. - ML is close to his Childhood Female friend - Not just close, they are so close that he allows his FL friend to be all over him, touch him, hug him, let he climb over him etc etc close. - ML goes to caves at night because his female friend asks him so. - ML goes to forests after he has a GF alone with his female friend. - ML tells the FL not to be with her male friends but he still allows his female friend to press herself against him, hold hands, be alone in his bed room, sit on his bed with just 2 of them, you know all cute and intimate moments. - ML never draws boundaries with his female friend, where as FL draws clear boundaries with her male friend and sticks to them - ML even knowing his female friend is trying to sabotage his relationship with his GF never takes steps to shut her down, instead have the girls fight each other for him. Where as FL does not ever give her male friend a chance to do this kind of disgusting stuff to ML
This is just relationship stuff. After the Golden test of Gender swap, how does the ML comes across?
I can go on but the golden test does not smell right for the FL. At this point saying FL is strong and smart does not hold. can go on how poorly FL judgement calls were though-out the drama.

That's because almost every Cdrama has the same ML and FL, especially the ones where romance & family is in spot-light. There are exceptions but that's like 1 in 10, rest 9 have basically the same "type" ML and FL.
Got to give it though, Cdramas do fantasy and Wuxia exceptionally well. May be that's because the plot is not romance/family.
If you want to analyze further, take 10 Cdrama romances this year and check out the ML and FL. More often than not, they are feel the same. Admit again, there are few that are really good but they are very rare.
ML is written so well. Unlike Cdrama ML who come across as gods, this guy is vulnerable, kind and not unreasonable. FL is adorable but acts more like an 18 year old than her age. At her age she should be more mature. That's minor nitpick, the actress is adorable and the character is so lovable.
The kids are killing it.
So many weird and loud characters, Over the top acting by the old ladies, SFL is crazy & the actress is pretty good portraying her.
Second pair is cute and the ML sister is a show stealer.
Korean do Romance and family drama's much better than Chinese. The characters are much more rooted to reality. The girls in Korean dramas come across more intelligent and strong when compared to Cdramas.

She does her own things and has her own story. In fact if you take out the ML from that drama, nothing really changes. The FL central goal of reviving her master still remains & forms the core of the drama.

Cdramas make me feel uncomfortable in how they portray FL. In each and every drama, FL gets grabbed by men near to her. Very rarely in Cdramas have I seen a FL stand up to herself and ask these men to behave. In a subtle way, the FL behavior enables these men to become more and more creepy. Bottom line is that writers never gave the FL a chance to stand up for herself and draw a line when it has been happening for a long time.
Have been to few countries but have not seen this kind of culture where men can grab (it's molestation because these dudes have feeling for the girl) girls as and when they please as they show in Cdramas.
Men or Women, consent forms a very important aspect of ones life. Only mother/father, brother/sister & partners have implicit consent developed through trust and intimacy. Friends don't have that implicit consent. There is not a culture in the world that allows what happens to FL in Cdramas.
