A Beautiful and Romantic classic Love story ..,,
.... has the typical elements of a classic love story that is told Very Well, yet compelling w/ plenty of "FEELS" that linger !!!
A perfect expression of Idealistic Love at the age of 20 ... puts a smile on my face.
As @Bladey said below... It flows like a dream .... imo, the Beautiful Music helps to give it that effect...
I really don't like Su Man' s character. I just cant warm to her. I preferred Janine Chang in Sunny Happiness
If you put aside her crazy obsession, and the actions due to it.... Su Man is an Intelligent , Confident , Strong and Beautiful woman .... a Very likable character ... and a Perfect Match for Lu Li-Chieng !!!
This was a good drama and I liked it, but I disliked male lead Song Yi's character; throughout the drama I found…
Agree w/ you 100%.... you summed up the problems perfectly !!! .... I would add :
---- I believe the problem lies w/ the book's premise in the 1st place.... 1) her unrealistic obsession and 2) SY 's weak personality and subsequent actions.
---- Su Man , other than the crazy , pathetic , childish obsession w/ SY, is an intelligent, confident, strong and beautiful woman... a very likable character ... and a perfect match for Lu Li-Chieng !!!
---- Since the drama decided to change the protagonist to Lu Li-Chieng ... they shouldn't have been indecisive !!! .... in the last 1/3 of the drama , they should have included more scenes of Su Man being strongly tempted by LC's love ! .....
---- In the last few episodes , there was no need to dwell on her silly friend's even crazier obsession w/ a voice ( a love for 6 years !?!? ... Give me a break !!!) or waste time on her story ..... Instead, they should have included more scenes of Romance b/w LC and Su Man.... I believe those scenes are needed in order to make the transition to ep.49 where in her 1 yr absence, she suddenly realizes she loves LC !
Considering all the problems w/ the drama we both listed, no wonder you had misgivings , a while ago , about 2 endings, presuming it was not a good drama !
Despite all that , the Love/Romance b/w LC and Su Man, remains one of my favorites in dramaland !!! <3 .... ( for reasons I stated in comments below ) ...... and Lu Li-Chieng remains one of my favorite characters and my favorite Man in dramaland !!! .... <3
Add the Amazing acting by Wallace and Janine and more Amazing chemistry , and you can see why I still strongly recommended this drama as a worthwhile watch ..... <3
...... ...... I hope you agree ..... .... XD
The entire book's premise is a huge problem for me .....
1) her entire love for SY is Unfathomable for me !!! .... I can understand a crush .... but w/ the obsession she had, they should have at least had some interaction for love to grow ...... so for me it was Not love, just a Delusional Obsession , for an otherwise intelligent, confident, strong and beautiful woman. ... (who did the unrealistic/ pathetic thing of resigning a successful career to chase after him )
2) Because of her Obsession , the author insisted it is 'True Love' ... I guess the author thought it was 'Noble" , that she should go thru a temptation like Lu Li-Chieng ... but 'True Love' wins the day , her loyalty and persistence is rewarded , and she ends up w/ SY ...!?!? ....
3) Well, #2 would make sense except that SY, imo , is not an admirable character ...... He was weak and a hypocrite and mentally unbalanced ....
I did not read the book , but I assume the drama took a different perspective , and , Thankfully , Lu Li-Chieng became the protagonist ...yeay !!!
So, as I told you a while ago, that is the legitimate reason why she could end up w/ either man .... BUT.... since the drama did not follow the books premise in the first place .... Ep. 48 is Completely WRONG and unnecessary for the series !
Rain & Kim Tae-Hee.... ..... they both have such a cute Sense of Humor !!! ... personalities would fit perfectly w/ Comedic Timing !!! ...... and they both just Ooze Sexiness !!!
The most perfect pairing in the list , imo !! ...... even if they weren't a RL couple... still perfect fit !
He is a terrific actor !....saw him in "Best Time" & "Too Late to Say I Love You"... .....…
"Best Time" is on Viki.com .... they also added the "Best Time Special" as episodes 48 & 49....
most people skip ep.48 (the book ending) in favor of ep.49 (the ending following the arc of the drama).
"Too Late to Say I Love You"...is difficult to find w/ Eng subs.... YouTube has ep. 10-16 w/ Eng subs... I think Viki had 1 other ep. subbed also.... (I saw the subbed episodes first , so as to get an idea of who they are and what's happening) .....
I watched the rest on YouTube HD channel ......
--->>>> the FIRST & ONLY time I saw a drama Raw !!! .... That is how captivating the story is !!! .... and how captivating Wallace's performance is ... he shows so much Passion and emotion , that I was able to understand the general story.
Still hoping someone would translate it someday !!!
A Great Talent !!! .....
She was Amazing in "Best Time" !!! .... Awesome performance !!! ...and Amazing chemistry w/. Wallace Chung ( who was just as amazing !! )....
<3 love her ! ..... one of the few actresses that captures my attention w/ her awesome acting !
All of "Best Time" is on Viki.com.... they don't separate the "Drama" from the "Special."
The Drama is 47 episodes ... Viki adds this Special as episodes 48 and 49 .... (most of the episodes are either 30 min. or 40 min long)
Recommendation: Most people would want to watch Ep. 49 first .... If you want , later, you can go back and watch Ep.48.... .... Ep.48 is the ending in the book .... Ep.49 is the ending that the Drama arc needed...... I won't say more so as not to give spoilers.
I almost dropped it at the end of ep. 5 ...."date, date, date, date ...." .... , someone says thank you for the beer .... "beer, beer, beer, beer ....." .... ughh
...I can't stand to see anymore of these stupid , sloppy, clumsy, untactful, unattractive women as heroines ... just because they are always positive and cheerful , it does Not make them attractive !!!...uugggghhhhh !!!
EDIT : after taking a break... I returned to give it a second chance... after all, she is smart and pretty at work.... so not completely hopeless at this point .... ..... but if she continues w/ her foolish unattractive ways, ...there is no way I can believe he will fall for her !
EDIT : It gets better .... I like it by the end .
Great idea for an article .....You made some very good points.....
But somehow , when I wonder why I and many others have become addicted to Asian dramas , I think it is because they still have Idealized Values...
For example : The good guys always win.... the bad guys always get punished..... there are Strong Family Values .... also...they put a very strong value on Friendship and Loyalty .... and Idealized Romantic Love is still more important than sexual gratification .... ..... ......
.....These things, I believe , have a very nice "Feel-Good" effect .... they create an idealized fantasy world to escape into .... I am certain , that world does not exist , not even in Asia.
I would love to hear what others think of my analysis ... I wonder if I am correct in my assumptions. !?!?
my road to Asian drama addiction : searching for more Idealized romances , a-la "Pride & Prejudice", on Netflix ...--->>> "Hwang Jin-Yi" --->>> "A Moment to Remember" --->>> "The Man from Nowhere" ---->>> "Slave Hunters" ---->>> Jang Hyuk addiction ---- K-addiction ....... ........ ....... (not many happy endings above , but lots of feel-good moments in between ....like : unbelievable love/loyalty among friends , loyalty to a neighbor, an epic love-story , sacrifice for justice, etc.... all those idealized values) ! ...does anyone agree ?
Yep, because of Mi Young running away with Daniel, I so enjoyed this one so much better. So wish they had shown…
To me, Dylan was the best part of this drama.... I had 2nd lead syndrome in a terrible way... still do.... ..... still think she belongs w/ Dylan .....who brought out the best in her , gave her strength and self-confidence , and he gave her unconditional love .... whereas the husband didn't seem to have much love or encouragement.
Also, I like the K-version much better... It is way funnier, fresher ..... but, mainly because Gun's love is palpable..... ..... and opposite to T-version , he was the one to encourage her , give her confidence, and bring out the best in her ( although, Daniel did as well ) .... ..... so she belongs w/ Gun , her husband in the K-version...
The only thing I liked better in the T-version , were her sisters .... they were funnier ....especially liked the older sister w/ her love-story !!!
This show had me literally Laughing Out Loud in the middle of the night , waking up others in the house!!! .... Never before did that happen to me w/ any Asian drama... !
A Real Screwball Comedy !!! .... w/ a Surprisingly Wonderful Romance in the middle of this family drama...
and Yes !!! ...her father is despicable ... very greedy and mean ..... you Love-to-Hate him .... But, he is also the Most Hilarious villain !!!
It has been a while since I saw it... It was after my intro to Song Seung-Heon , and subsequent crush......
I remember Liking it.... especially the character played by Lee Bum-Soo and all the Political Intrigue surrounding him.....
I found the medical stuff interesting at first , but a bit far-fetched.... The Story -Line surrounding the time travel and the Mystery behind it was also Very Interesting !
OMG !!! ... I thought the actress that played his wife looked familiar ! ... I did not recognize her ! ... It's same actress from "Haeundae Lovers" and " The Servant"...
Well , the sex scenes were better in "The Servant" ....also better in "Frozen Flower" .....
The subtitles were not very clear ... I did not understand everything , but , I understood enough...
---- It was interesting to explore these two characters ... and what would drive them to this affair
---- BUT, the movie failed to make me believe in their love at first .... It seemed more sexual attraction of two lonely people .... I did not believe it was love , the sex scenes were not affectionate enough , imo ... just sex ! ....
---- I can understand 'obsessed' , but the movie FAILED again to explore and explain his motivation ... He is understandably disturbed .... but what is his psyche that it would drive him into an obsession as solace ? .... and why her ? .....
Ok!.... I must have missed it in the 1st episode .... (Please, nobody laugh) ...what does "Hamo , Hamo"…
Thanks for the answer....
for some reason , I thought it was Chinese... I thought they were replying in Chinese , and it caught on... It is hillarious in any case , so is the actor, as soon as he apears on screen.....heheheh... XD
