I 100% agree :D I enjoyed reading it ^_^I fell in love with korean dramas because of their romance and stories.…
Filipino dramas are much influenced by telenovelas, recently korean dramas and right now I would say mix of both. We are a catholic country so you'll notice most of themes revolves around family and god. The number of episodes are based on ratings, meaning if the rating is good they will add nonsense just to make it longer, if that rating is bad then the ending will be abrupt. I know someone who work as writer for those dramas and they dont have creative freedom on what they do.

Have you ever watched a movie that it felt you are reading a novel? The constant narration did it for me, him expressing his thoughts on a woman inside his scope. The movie revolves around her, his memories (obsession) of her and her smile that eleven years later disappears. She's a different woman now, he thought, so he investigates (stalk), set a fish shop near her place, set up his voyerism equipment and watch her 24/7.

This movie is more than an intriguing premise, the theme (loneliness) is strong, the execution is good with music that brilliantly drives the plot. The acting is excellent too. Lastly there's nudity here, so yeah not for everyone, but not just that there are couple of scenes that are hard to watch. Consider yourself warned.

I think the producers have total influence on nojima's script in this drama. It only felt it was written by him last 3 episodes plus why only 20minutes and what's up with that cheesy ending. Wasted potential could've been really good had they executed it better. Marie Iitoyo is great actress though, she quite versatile too, Gakky 2.0? no make it 3.0.

On Rent a Friend Mar 20, 2020
A girl who believes that platonic friendships between man and woman is impossible, met a friend-for-hire guy who claims he never fell in love with a woman whenever he rented himself out as friend. She got intrigued with this idea and rented him for one month to test whether this type of relationship is possible. What follows are countless of dates, questions of how much of it is authentic or fake, and whoever is the first one to cross that friendship/romance boundary line.

I wish I could recommend this quirky romantic movie to all given how unique of a concept for a romantic story it is, but its anti rom-com approach might not be for everyone, they throw away all those tropes that could make the movie more entertaining. This movie also went full philosophical in the end, and honestly I find the ending anti climactic, but one thing for sure Eri Tokunaga is such a wonderful actress...what a performance.

Many thanks for sharing this. Appreciate your effort!Disappointed with the Tomoe casting, so I have nothing else…
Idol actors for me are the ones who play the similar and safe type roles. Most are shoujo live action roles. I dont care about technicalities whether they belong on an idol group or not. Sato takeru before kenshin was an idol actor but after that he grew into a real actor because he started to take roles outside his range and as a result he improves a lot. Right now I wouldnt say ryo yozhizawa is an idol actor since i saw him in rivers edge movie which he is a revelation in that movie. If my gut feel is right i think he will be a kengo kora 2.0 type of actor. Another idol actor who turns into legit actor is matsuzaka tori, compare his roles now and before and see how different they are. He even won best actor recently. Mackenyu on the otherhand is still an idol actor but has a potential because his father is such a legend and seems he's serious about the craft and not playing around. Kento Yamazaki is a weird case because he is good in non shoujo movies, rikuo and control tower. Let's see how good he is in Gekijou, it might be his career defining moment. The late kirin kiki has comment on this she said idol actors looks the same they don't have identity and it is not good for Japanese film industry.

To watch this drama you don't have to agree to enjoy it, similar with infidelity dramas, student teacher relationship, BANK HEIST MOVIES (Netflix's MONEY HEIST ehem ehem ehem) or movies that seems they are glorifying serial killers, those are terrible acts but it doesn't mean you can't watch and enjoy them. At this point this drama is just a pure wtf comedy fest which you should not take seriously. I also think it has potential to become unconventional romance gem like Date, kekkon dekinai otoko or love shuffle for example but it seems that's not what the producers are aiming for. So yeah if you can't tolerate just drop and move on to the next drama.

In terms of feels this drama will deliver the knockout blow in the end. Ono machiko portrayed yoko perfectly the gradual development of that character is the highlight of this drama with matching jaws-like music that perfectly captures yoko's persona. Damn just where would Jdramas be without dramas like this. I appreciate manga adaptations and the fun they can give but sometimes it feels youre watching the same dramas over and over. Sadly this is the side of Jdramas most people dont know...even the so called jdrama fans.

Not only the story is weird but the execution is even weirder. The symbolism of forest while he is shaving her hair in an asmr-esque kind of way is funky forest level of weirdness, I love it, and by far the best and funniest part of the movie. What I don't like though is how the second part turns out. I know that you should not apply logic in movies such as this, like how come suddenly the boy became master shaver even though he had no experience doing it, but still I don't like how illogical the second part of the movie is. The characters suddenly became obsessed, too edgy and angry at the world. It's over the top and seems the director is trying to convey a strong message but it didn't goes through me, so the movie ended up Wallmart Himizu on that part. Overall still a good watch and I had fun watching; it is also nostalgic in a way because after all we became adolescent once in our life, we experienced change physically and emotionally. The message is simple, love yourself for what you are but just told in a WTF-Japan-Seriously fashion.

Title Day and Night Spoiler
Once again, Japan explored the grey areas of morality in this small town dramatic thriller mystery "Day and Night", it's just that the shade is a bit darker this time, and me being hopeful towards the ending I couldn't say I was totally happy about it, but knowing how realist this types of films can be maybe I should have known better. It's a movie that challenges its viewers, how far you can justify revenge and if doing bad things for good reasons is right. Although the film will not give answer to the said question, instead it will provide a possible solution if you fall into the similar situation.

Well shot and brilliantly directed movie, the cinematography is captivating with music ranges from mood evoking to dramatic, there is one montage in particular that I like and I love how they play with parallels in this movie, the good and the bad, the day and night and the first scene and the last. Strong performance from the cast led by Abe Shinnosuke, Ando Masanobu and rising star Kaya Kiyohara who didn't even flinch acting alongside with these veteran actors. The story is not for everyone, but when it comes to technical aspects in film I may include Day and Night for my top 10 Japanese movies of all time.

Eh? I don't think it's a tearjerker movie..based on the trailer..I think it's a "feel good" kind of movie
Not all tearjerker are sad actually most are inspiring stories. For example one liter of tears is more inspiring than sad.

A story of loss, grief, acceptance and recovery...told in a non melodramatic fashion and with pace slow as molasses. The story is about a girl who can't get over the death of her boyfriend, she's a former teacher but now in Tokyo and works as a waitress. The film's slice of life approach means we follow her in the most mundane task like her listening to radio, serving noodles, looking for jobs, watching fireworks up to important events such as meeting her former student/jazz singer and later meeting a potential new love interest. The movie ends in a very positive note when unopened letters are read and season has changed. Also plus points on how the director use that catchy ending song...genius. ^^

The way they introduce yuuya yagira's character makes you think he's the final boss lmao. Kudos to him fantastic as always, the best thug face in japan lol. His chemistry with ken yasuda is really something. They are rivals in aoi honoo and here they are brothers, hard to believe these are the same people lol. Kimura fumino is good too..what a girl.

Yuji sakamoto's weakness is romance imo like the drama love that makes you cry diidnt meet my expectation, but im still here for his food for though dialogues. Btw i dont think the plot is boring sakamoto can make the most mundane thing interesting like for example the karage and lemon scene in quartet. Whats boring is those same old cliche live actions the use kabedon and cheesy lines to sell the movie. We've seen that like million times already.
