I'm glad you enjoyed it!

Personally I think they've done a good job considering all the restrictions. Because they cut 8 episodes, the pacing feel quite fast- specially since they don't provide the date stamps clearly.

Since they changed Luke's character a bit I am also curious how they will wrap things up without hurting Tao's character too much

Title The Early Spring Spoiler
What boundary should exist between best friends when a parent has died?!! There shouldn't be! Let alone one imposed…
Relationships are not supposed to be as restrictive as some suggest.

I guess it depends on the culture and how much mutual trust you have with your partner?

Like with this offensive hug- even Luke stopped arguing after she told him it was to comfort SYZ. So clearly even jealous Luke can understand what she did wasn't wrong.

If your partner cannot be flexible/ even trying to compromise with you, is that relationship worth it?

She explained to him several times what kind of friendship she had with SYZ. It's not like Tao goes out with SYZ alone frequently for "friend dates" or even in a similar capacity how Sun Yu spends time with SYZ alone.

Also did you notice how people are willing to dismiss Luke's hug with his female friend as nothing? If Tao's was offensive then so would Luke's technically. It doesn't matter if he drew the line, he knew his friend still liked him πŸ€ͺ

[Not saying that I found his hug offensive personally but if you are going to harp about Tao's hug, then Luke's shpuld be frowned upon too].

Title The Early Spring Spoiler
I don’t understand tho, the problem is that she hugged the guy??? This guy was going through so much with his…
Yes, Luke did say he isn't comfortable when she's with other men and Tao too explained what her connection with SYZ was. This was BEFORE THEIR FIRST BREAK UP.
When Luke asked for a second chance, he said that he wanted to take a leap of faith with her. This "leap" includes trusting her friendship since Tao already made it clear before the breakup that she was not going to stop being friends with him since there was nothing fishy about their friendship. Luke didn't bring up SYZ/ other men again after ep 18 afterall? At least I cannot recall it.

I never said that Luke should just keep quiet. He had the right to question her after seeing that hug. BUT he has no right to accuse her of being loose or cheating- specially since he saw they were both crying. If a BF's first reaction when he sees his GF crying with a friend is that she's cheating on him. What's the point??

Perhaps you are someone who is willing to cater your whole life blindly to suit your significant other's wishes/ insecurities but in real life you have to make sure it's reasonable.
If you are comfortable with that kind of life where you can't even interact with the opposit sex without worrying you'd trigger your S.O, then I applaud your patience and hope your s.o restricts himself too since it shd be mutual.

**************************************************
Scenes you mentioned:
1. Diary scene- yes, that's my mistake. I watched it again and her "so you knew" does suggest that Tao was aware of his feelings before she read his diary. But it was also quite clear that SYZ wasn't planning to follow on his feelings even before the diary was revealed. She probably would have put some distance if he made a pass like what she did with the ex.
Since they barely hung out alone (more detailed below), there wasn't much she could do about it since she did value his friendship AND they were house mates. Being proactive and rejecting him is fine but we already know that Tao isn't the type to takethe initiative to start uncomfortable conversations.

2. Late night flowers- Tao didn't look uncomfortable when she saw him. She was surprised since it was unusual for him. Tao's suggestion to watch a movie along with Sun Yu is actually not unusual if you read the novel since this is something the flat mates do together several times.

2. Picking her up from the airport- it's not unusual for a friend to pick you up at the airport even in real life. IDK about you but it's not unusual regardless of the gender, specially if the location is quite remote like a desert since it's difficult to find a ride and safety is important.

********
Since you are so dead against Tao hanging out with SYZ to appease Luke, what should she do? They barely have lived together for years now since both work out station. Tao's reaction to seeing him at her doorstep also suggests that this was something he has never done before. Even in the previous episodes, Tao barely hungout with him alone except for anything related to work (compared to how Sun Yu and SYZ were like). So what more should she do?

Even Luke stopped making a fuss and just sulked after she told him clearly that she was comforting SYZ because he was in a bad place. Are you not supposed to be there for your sobbing friend? Hugs are not sexual. Depending on the culture specially, hugging a person from the opposit sex may not mean much given the context.

********
I'm curious about one thing since you are so hell bent in protecting Luke. The way he reacted- was it right? As I already mentioned, I agree that Luke should be able to question what he saw...but resorting to name calling and accusing her of cheating (even if he was just saying bcz he was angry), was it fair? Specially since he saw she was crying? Shouldn't he have been more civil?

I do love how this makes so much sense in retrospect since he too looked surprised to see her in the elevator…
That really hurts more now...the way he was sobbing was just πŸ’”

Also is it true that in the novel, Luke actually cooked and took care of SZT and Sun Yu when they were grieving? I saw a comment on IG .

She didn't ask him?? I honestly can't wait to see how they will handle the breakup. It has to be explosive but should be handled delicately.

My mind is sooo jumbled right now thanks to the novel/ promo reels. I vaguely remember she asked him if he REALLY scored her badly but now I have no idea about the source πŸ™ˆ

I've several posts on how JBR put in a lot of thought to make sure Luke doesn't come off as sleezy/ too unbearable throughout the drama so I hope they gave equal care with Tao's as well.

Did you see the clip of Luke in the Aurora scene ? It's hard to watch.πŸ₯²

Title The Early Spring Spoiler
There's no cheating
The FL is very close with her house mates- they are like her family since they were the first friends she made after moving to Beijing. One of the house mates is a guy (SYZ) and he's super nice. Like the perfect person to have as a best friend.

The problem is that the ML hates him because:
1. The FL depends on SYZ more than on the ML when things go wrong. The ML feels sidelined alot.

2. SYZ has a crush on the FL (but he doesn't chase on these feelings because he has too many personal issues to deal with it). The FL has no clue till the end about these fewlings but others can see.

He's harmless TBH but because the couple has such a fragile relationship, the ML cannot control his jealous feelings.

Both have a point if you look at the other's POV. The problem is, the ML has a fowl mouth and he can sometimes be really visious when he gets mad. Since the FL and SYZ never really crossed any lines, to her, the ML's treatment is extremely unfair.

****
Special Note:
Point 1- one of the reasons why she is more comfortable getting SYZ's help instead of the ML's is because she doesn't want to trouble the ML (she thinks she's not worth bothering an elite like the ML). In other times, she doesn't get the ML's support because he can be a bit difficult to deal with at times.
The ML is not a bad person but he can get triggered because the FL's actions make him feel like he's not important to her

Exactly. I blame it on the C-censorship Board and the editor πŸ™ˆ

We saw both their POVs in the initial episodes so it's likely they may have filmed the same with the latter episodes as well but they must have been trimmed off.

I completely agree with you

Luke's feelings and concerns are valid too. I don't usually mention his POV in detail when I comment about Tao (or vice versa) because the comments get too long so it's difficult because I'm using my mobile. The only thing I hate about him is his mouth. Even in ep 20, he had the right to ask...but goddd!!! The way he approached it?? Terrible πŸ˜…

Honestly their biggest hurdle is communication. They both suck at it and end up driving eachother mad. It's a visious cycle.

That's unfortunately true. I wish if the time lapse between ep 19 and 20 was made more clear so the core issue is more visible without us having to do the math.

Noticing them behave unusual (flower, tears, and hugs so late in the night) would make anyone curious. Asking about it is fair. It's just the way he acted out his feelings was......poor.

Looking back at ep 19, in his desperation, Luke did not raise his concerns properly before rekindling their relationship. He should have because it's a valid concern from his POV. By brushing it off he did himself a disservice IMO πŸ™ˆ

It's not SZT's fault if Luke did not mention that as part of getting back together, he wanted her to have minimum contact with SYZ. If anything, he unintentionally reassured her that it would not be a problemπŸ˜…

Some people believe that women and men cannot remain friends if one of them are in a relationship with somebody else. Seems a bit too extreme IMO.

Seeing as SYZ never actively went after her and they barely spent any time alone together unless it's for work, IDK how much more distance she should be putting between herself and SYZ just to keep Luke happy. Afterall SYZ was her friend before Luke became her boyfriend. The diary scene also proved that SZT really had no idea about his feelings/ he had no intention of following his feelings either.

I am confused about one thing though. In ep 19, wasn't it implied that they'd be more honest with each other moving forward? And Tao told her parents about Luke too. Since it's been 2 years after the previous misunderstandings/ breakup, was his reaction really reasonable? I mean I understand why Luke felt that way and from the outside it did look unusual enought to question it. But if they had 2 good years together, his approach should have been different right? Confront- but in a better way? Or am I just expecting too much?

It’s interesting to see why when LN is crying on the phone, his friend is also there crying! Like what’s happening…
Despite all his hard coaching over the years and emotional investment on LN/SZT, it failed πŸ₯²

If you are refering to ep 20, she had no idea that he came to meet her that day. They literally spoke a few minutes earlier and he said that he was in Beijing.

She already knows Luke doesn't like her friend so why would she talk about how her friend was having a hard time with him for no reason (specially since Tao and Luke have so little time to spend together)?

Ep 20 also revealed that Tao barely hung out with SYZ alone and they weren't really living in the same apartment for that long since both worked outstation alot.
Sun Yu was the one who always went out of her way to spend time with SYZ/ helped him with his issues.

PS: I'm not saying that Tao has no faults. She too caused a lot of issues in their relationship just like Luke.
But trust is also important.

Definitely! It got me reflecting about my work/career. Did I work hard enough and seek opportunities for myself.…
Exactly! Even today's episode, the way Sun Yu spoke about how things were looking promising for them- that's such a realistic take during the last stages before someone decides to give up.

Even with Tao, during her interview she actually did bring up several good points that can be applied by rven us in a way

You do have a point. It's very realistic.

I guess it's just that in your mind, you see Luke as this blunt guy who also has been working really hard to be more understanding/ emotionally available. As it's also been nearly 2 years since they had their last serious talk, you also fall into this false sense of security thinking that their past insecurities are no longer a concern as well.πŸ˜…

Since in the past also his valid concerns tend to backfire due to lack of communication, you also keep expecting him to try better next time. But it really is unrealistic (and unfair) to expect so much.

Think greenflag cdramas have spoilt too much πŸ˜…πŸ˜…πŸ˜…

On an unrelated note, I quite like how the drama raises awarenes in a subtle way.

In terms of the pitfalls of a fragile relationship, mental health, or even the importance of perseverance we can see this brought to life gradually just like in real life.

Omg yesss! When Tao kept knocking, I was in pins and needles πŸ™ˆπŸ™ˆπŸ™ˆ

But I guess now it does make it more believable why in their final breakup Luke didn't try to clear the misunderstanding.
