She was in the TV/news industry and had potential to be a newscaster which could also help him creating his positive image with a broader audience reach. Because he knew she was a schemer when she came into his space, he targeted her to be his "wife." We don't know if he started to develop SOME feelings for her during their marriage, or he was cautious of her the entire time. But, she definitely had feelings for him.
