I am so annoyed with Kou, blowing hot and cold, without any consideration for Futaba. He does not deserve her but he's definitely going to get her in season 2 because that is how dramas work! Right?🤣
Other than that and Kikuchi's hair there was not much wrong with it. The cinematography is pretty, actors good, writing solid. Music was boring but I noticed it because it sounded very familiar, it is just the same kind of pop instrumental music heavily featuring piano heard in many japanese HS romcoms. Nice songs though.
I have not read any reviews or comments so I am guessing now!
Halfway through the ep 1. Let me see if I am getting this correctly! They broke up over nothing. She's got a new boyfriend, rich and successful whose mother wants him to marry someone equally rich and successful i.e. not her who has a lot of money problems. She meets her ex by accident and sparks fly again: they are obviously going to get back together but because this is a K drama it is going to take them 16eps and a mountain of misunderstandings to get there. Her boyfriend is looking for a mysterious woman with a scar (probably a childhood connection: he became a plastic surgeon in order to fix his first love!): he will find her and fall in love and happily ever after... The only original feature this drama has, so far, are the interviews (something along the lines of When Harry Met Sally) though it is difficult to grasp sometimes when the scene is the interview. They should have interviewed them in a single location for each character, it would have been easier to watch: now it is so messy! It is cute and not too cringy: though I almost dropped it, the first 5 minutes were just awful!
The FL is getting to be more and more annoying: lying all the time! I guess we need that otherwise this drama would be too short! If she had only told him the truth, we wouldn't have had to watch her getting more and more tangled up in her lies for 3 episodes so far, but more are coming!
The older they are, the more predictable they get! Conclusion: I really do not like these love triangles full of lies....Only on ep 5 but I need to finish it for a challenge! I wonder how long is it going to take me? If I watch one episode a day, I may finish it by Easter!
I must admit that I got hooked eventually in episode 7! Better late than never!
Ended up binging it in two days! The best part? Characters watching Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi in last episode: probably my favourite Bollywood film!
maybe she needed to cross the ocean daily on bamboo boat to go on work.. you know they are living in 10000 bc…
Falling birth rates is a worldwide problem but in Asia (SK, Japan) and Europe (Italy, Germany) they are a disaster. Reasons for this are not exactly the same. As far as I can figure out, apart from high cost of raising a kid (education, healthcare), the huge problem in SK is that the women are seen only as mothers and wives, when you have a kid you stop working and stop existing as a separate individual and become so-and-so's mother: nobody apparently calls you by your own name anymore! You cannot be a wife and a mother and work at the same time: it is not appropriate and it is highlighted in so many dramas. If they were to show successful women being mothers as well, if they were to show men being a part of the family and not just a lazy bum breadwinner kings, if they were to stop showing kids as little insufferable perfect spoiled brats...if only the society's rigidity were to evolve but no! So they are throwing money at people who are not interested in it: no child policy has worked so far in SK. They should maybe do some introspection before they disappear! Germany has the similar problem: working mothers are considered Rabenmutter, raven mothers who "abandon" their kids to go to work! So the women were forced to choose: kids or work. They chose work! The result? One million arab immigrants! Italy had grave economic problems which made its birthrate drop and it never recovered. France had an excellent family policy, stay at home moms are considered an aberration, childcare, kindergartens, schools are abundant and the state help was plethoric. Then the state reduced the benefits for the families and the birth rate dropped immediately! I am still looking for a drama about a middle class woman, successful at work, supported by her family and the society in her quest for self fulfilment! Either you are a successful woman at work or you are a successful mother: both are unacceptable!
Great article! Thank you for making me discover some beautiful songs from dramas I never watch (i.e. sageuks LOL)! I have been a drama watcher only for four years now (thank you, covid! At least something good to come out of it, right?) but I have a very long playlist with songs from K-dramas though not only, and the first being Rachael Yamagata's Something In The Rain and the latest being Schedryk by Inna from Juvenile Justice (K drama) and Futatabi by Hiroga (The End of the World With You, Japan). And even though I'd seen some of the dramas in your article, none of those songs really caught my attention....Music is such a personal experience but it should not stop us from discovering different types of songs! I found some really great songs here and I might end up watching the dramas featuring them!
Why do princesses never know how to swim in these dramas? There is the obligatory scene, in every one of these dramas (ep 12 here), where the FL is pushed into a pond, which is of course very, very, very deep and the ML jumps in to save her while she is sinking immobile deeper and deeper.... Mind you, these scenes are very pretty! Very pretty, indeed!🤣🤣🤣
Well, there are a lot of dramas out there with 2nd season but still good such as Kingdom, Taxi Driver, Dr. Romantic…
I dropped those second seasons after one or two episodes: definitely not as good as the original. Kingdom is horror I never watch but each season has 8 episodes therefore making it a regular K drama length (i.e.16 epidodes). Mostly second seasons are not as good as the first one! It always looks like they are milking the cow dry: if it works, lets continue making more of the same! Each of those second seasons got a lot of flack from the fans for being not as good as expected. Stranger, Missing, DP, Strong Woman, Duty After School...to name just a few most (not all!) users here found lacking and disappointing.
All I can say is that I sincerely hope to be proven wrong but I will not be holding my breath!😉🤣🥰
Is there a compiled subbed version anywhere else but on Dailymotion (the image quality is atrocious there!)? Frankly I cannot be bothered to watch 3min episodes one by one.....
Poor actors were so cold while filming!🥶🥶 I feel so sorry for them when I see them dressed in those flimsy dresses and the steam coming out of their mouths when they breathe... I am so having trouble concentrating on the plot!🤣🤣🤣Dropped!
Yes it did end on a cliffhanger but it has been too long now! Are they running out of ideas, just like in the US with endless reboots and spinoffs?🤣🤣🤣
I guess I am actively contributing to your list!🤣🤣🤣 I find the idea interesting and now I am paying attention since there are often references to other series. I have two for you today: I hope they qualify!LOL Something In The Rain ep. 1 when the main couple meets the ML answers "While you were sleeping" which was the actor's, Jung Hae In's, previous drama. King The Land ep. 7 while visiting the korean royal palace, the ML says "This place seems oddly familiar!" which is, I think, reference to the actor's, Lee JunHo's previous drama The Red Sleeve where he played the owner of the palace, the king! In ep 8 they are making reference to Anupam Tripathi's previous role in Squid Game: we see his costume with numbers 119 on it which was his role! There are probably more in this drama that I missed!🤣 Also in Sh***ing Star the ML gets ready to confess by referencing some great drama classics: Goblin, DOTS, Coffee Prince...Hilarious! I need to find the episode!

HPriest thank you for the brilliant subs! We are so lucky to have you subbing !
