Bad ideas should not be understood based on the idea of cultural differences, they should be criticized no matter…
I pointed out how Yeo Reum was wrong, and now you change the topic to grandma? lol The issue are not separate characters. The issue is overall message the episode sends - Bom was wrong. Not one character thought of her as priority, Yeo Reum included. Why after the yelling scene the writer and director decided to show Yeo Reum comforting the grandma not Bom, who was the victim? My issue is everyone prioritized either the dad or the grandma, and it was shown as a valid and reasonable thing to do.

Again, he should not be fighting his child off with his knife while being drunk in the first place. What he did was still a crime. What he did was still unacceptable and he should be punished for it, not excused. The fact his hurt ego was more important than safety of his daughter shows how he does not deserve forgiveness and sympathy he received from EVERYONE in the town. We got MORE scenes of people comforting dad and grandma about the whole incident this episode than Bom. You can show problematic and realistic situations without sending a message that it's not actually as bad and normalizing it. this drama did not do it.

This is not documentary tho. It's not even a psychological drama that supposer to depict realistically domestic abuse. It's a slice of life healing show, up till now not realistic in any aspect. But they want to be "realistic" with just this one topic?

22:59 exact time she yelled at Bom about how could she say these things in front of the grandma. She could calm her down without insinuating she was wrong for saying these things instead of everyone else being wrong with their approach to Bom. She did not raise her voice and said: Bom calm down, your wound might open. She did not raise her voice and ask everyone to leave so Bom can calm down. She raised her voice and questioned how Bom could say these things in front of the grandma. there is a difference. And later literally the scene cuts to Yeo Rum comforting grandma and not Bom.

Based on that phone call "Really, I've used it only once" it's definitely Bom's friend who paid the hospital fee…
I think it was An Dae Beom who paid. He made a deal with the professor. That would explain why he decided to work with him now out of a blue. He might have sold the rights to his theory or something.

The scene about selling the phone was probably just the same as Yeo Reum trying to help with paying and even Sung Min.

My issue was more about everyone's reaction than the dad himself.
It's not like I have any expatiations towards abusive father. While I found grandma a trash too for picking him over her granddaughter, I can still understand it, because he is her son. I can even understand the son, who is probably trying to keep the family together, no matter how dysfunctional it is, he wants to keep the illusion going.

But anyone else in the village is awful. Everyone looks down on her father and calls him drunk, the moment she says it after being abused, she is criticized. I was especially angry with Lee Yeo Reum. When Bom was crying and yelling ay her hospital bed while everyone tried to emotionally blackmail her into forgiving the dad and lying for him, I thought she would be the one to side with Bom. At least ask them to give her a minute to calm down. but she also yelled at her and also criticized her. As if she has any right. Bom has to forgive and help her dad after the abuse, when few days earlier she refused to give a ring from her mother to help her brother. Asking for the ring was too much and she could be angry, but being abused and stabbed (even if by an accident) by her dad is not valid reason to be angry? This show sends such a conflicting messages it's hard to enjoy.

Yeo Reum preaches how she wants to find herself and not care what others think, while also adding to pressure Bom is facing to do what others expect her to do , no matter how she herself feels about it.

We are 6 episodes in and I am just disliking Yeo Reum more and more.

I think the thing that most commenters here should understand is this drama is in South Korea which is an extremely…
Bad ideas should not be understood based on the idea of cultural differences, they should be criticized no matter what culture they come from.
Bad ideas don't go away, unless they face pushback.
They could show realistic depiction of patriarchal structure while also showing it's wrong. They did not. Everyone, including FL showed support towards it. It's problematic.

The whole episode was a new level of messed up. The idea that Ji Young being a little bit preachy towards Bom during the dinner was enough for Yeo Reum to show her support, but the same episode she criticized Bom for having emotional reactions towards her alcoholic father, is something that was approved is beyond my understand. This episode was a drastic take on domestic abuse and consequences even for Korean entertainment media, IF we take into consideration the genre this drama has.

This episode literally contradicts the message the drama was sending so far. How can they make me want to root for Yeo Reum in her journey of self discovery, of finally doing what she wants, what she thinks is right, without caring for other people and their opinions, while at the same time making Bom do exact opposite and this being seen as a good thing?

In the next episode you said "he actually did not try to kill her" - it does not matter in the context of the situation. It's a fact he completely disregarded safety of his own child when he started to fight her off with knife in his hand. "Negligence law allows you to sue someone for the harm they caused you either by accident or recklessness." < this is still a crime. A child should NEVER need to fight her dad so they won't go out and try to kill someone. No matter how you look at the situation, Bom was the victim, and she was forced by everyone to lie about the situation and forgive her father. She was yelled at and criticized for showing negative emotions towards her abusive and alcoholic father.

The issue is not just what dad did and whenever it was intentional. The issue is EVERYONE'S reaction to the situation and how NOT ONE PERSON was having Bom in their mind as priority.

Anyway, I do believe media should be responsible for what they show on screen. Everything has some message in it. You can show reality and make sure the message is clear - this reality is wrong. They did not do it here.

Is the drama worth watching? I wanna start this but from the comments, I have mixed feelings. How's the relationship…
relationship between mains is amazing and I doubt anyone had any issues with it.
some people (me include) do have a problem with how some set ups and side plots are dealt with, but as for the two mains interactions, it's great.

Personally, episode 6 was trash.

I hated everyone involved int he dad issue, except from Bom herself and the teen boy. The idea that LITERALLY everyone was more concern about the dad and the grandma, and not the ACTUAL victim Bom was just gross. the way everyone kept telling her she should not call her dad jerk, after SHE WAS STABBED BY HIM (i don't give a fuck it was "accident", you don't fight your child when you have a knife in your hand in the first place). How about asking her dad how can he verbally abuse his daughter for years and neglect the whole family? I was just shocked by it all. The way they yelled at her at the hospital for having strong emotional reaction AFTER BEING STABBED AND HAVING SURGERY.

Being addicted is not an excuse for abuse. Bom should not be emotionally blackmailed into forgiving her dad "for the sake of the grandma".

The whole episode was everyone shitting on Bom because of her dad. And at the end it was her responsibility to protect him by lying she did it herself. and she was expected to do that. And any time she voiced her grievances, someone criticized her for it. The fuck is wrong with everyone in this drama?

some very cheap jokes and annoying side characters < I am so happy the work related characters were gone early on because I found them all annoying šŸ™ƒ

Great review! Perfectly presents what the show is about and what a viewer might expect going in

All in all, this is definitely a drama that you should give a try, particularly, if you are a fan of romance and time travel genre. < I would add mystery genre to this. Personally I dislike dramas that tackle time travel, and yet I was amazed with this one and it was precisely because of the mystery that made me invested and try to figure out the twists and plot before it's actually fully explain by the show itself.

Great review! I especially agree how we truly got a variety of characters, and because of that the created world still felt real, even with the fantasy elements 😊
