The same way not everyone who consumes alcohol has problem with addiction and substance abuse,
The same way not every kink is rooted in psychological issues that need treatment.
The consent was such a big deal in the movie. Love how it was pointed out with the fake dom dude. Great to point it out in a review :)
And I strongly disagree with using different standards for idol actors and just actors. He decided to pick a lead role, I will judge his acting according to what lead actor should deliver, not what I can expect from idol turn actor who took his first role.
And even idol turn actor, he is not really doing that great of a job compared to others. Doh Kyung Soo, Im Si wan, Seo In Guk, Kim Se Jeong, Park Hyung Sik, to name a few idols/singers turned actors who did a better jobs with their debut projects.
I love Kang Daniel as an idol, artist, performer and even entertainer in variety shows, but his acting is quite lacking. He should have taken some supporting roles before diving into a lead ones.
1. It's naive to think it was Kang Daniel's skill that got him the role and not the probable profit they will get from using his name thanks to his huge popularity. We are talking about Disney here. They put 💲 over integrity and skills any time.
2. No director ever will say bad things about their production. Who would give themselves bad press? Not to mention he would not want to piss his fans off. Saying good things about the actor is the only way to go, no matter how well they truly performed. You get good press AND you make fans happy = profit.
There is a reason why so many people are not fans of Kang Daniel's acting, and even the people who try to defend him do not say: he is acting well, but rather: "he is acting well for a rookie" or "he is acting well for his first role" ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Here's the thing - he took a lead role, he should deliver acting worthy of a lead role. Not "decent for a first role" or "better than some other rookie idol actors" ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
For someone who went for 600 to took his revenge, he felt too empty for me. I felt nothing for him, coz I questioned what exactly motivated him to even look for her for 600 years. Revenge that takes such a long time has to be fueled by some kind of emotions, and I did not feel them from him.
For me the ending kind of undermines the stakes of the whole show. The idea that Bulgasal can only reincarnate if they are turned into human. They went "fuck it" at the end without giving any explanation.
I would have preferred this drama to be set entirely in Goryeo or Joseon < I agree. Honestly speaking, the same vicious circle of fate and revenge could have been kept without the present time line.
As always, great review :)
I loved the story and the idea behind it, but the directing bothered me quite a bit.
but I can totally see all the strong points you mentioned :)
Great review!
Saying I'm overanalyzing coz I mentioned obvious flaws in story building is a reach ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
According to reason and psychology/psychiatry, he does not 🤣
