In my opinion it depends. If a person hate watches something and then writes or gives a public review based on…
Starting a show you know you gonna hate is not the definition of hate-watching, and that was your scenerio you presented. Most people who hate-watch do not start a show knowing they will hate/dislike it. So I wanted to present more probable cases of when someone hate-watches.

Also, there is no such a thing as "non-biased mindset to begin with" - whenever it is a positive or negative one. You might have positive biased coz you like the cast, or you saw few shows from a director so you have high hopes. You might be hesitant coz you never liked an actor in any previous drama, etc.

Writing "un-biased" or as objective review as possible, starts from accepting the fact you are biased and your opinion is subjective to begin with, and then taking that into consideration as you write.

I can relate to almost everything that's written here from the hate watcher section. However, I perceive my constant…
I honestly just enjoy nit-picking, coz I enjoy over-alayzing. It goes for overanalyzing why I find something good. When I was watching Kingdom: Legendary War, I was literally writing long paragraphs with all the reasons I found certain performances to be amazing.

I think I just like focusing on details lol

I made a reply to Harsh_S 's reply, if you want to check my thoughts :)
Depending on what do you mean when you use the word "hater" is might make them haters, or might not :)

In my opinion it depends. If a person hate watches something and then writes or gives a public review based on…
I guess that's depends on the meaning of the word "hater". Coz technically the definition is "a person who hates someone or something", which fair enough, if you hate-watch something, you hate it (more often dislike tho, hate is extremely strong word). But colloquially speaking, most people use the word in another meaning:
"a person who thrives on showing hate toward, criticizing, or belittling other people or things, usually unfairly" which I cannot agree with, as describing people who hate-watch.

Hating something does not necessarily mean your review will not be objective (or rather as objective as possible, coz no review is truly objective).

For example, when I started watching TharnType, I strongly disliked it from episode one. I still finished it, with the thought of writing critical review of it, I even rewatched it, to make sure I won't make any mistakes about the plot or characters while writing. I explained in detail all the problems I had with the show, but I also mentioned things that I found good. Same with drama Bloody Romance - described the flaws, while also talking about the things I found good. Both dramas I rated 2.5 and were a hate-watch for me.

I also strongly disagree with the statement: "Because reviews need to be objective". All the review has to do is present the viewers opinion about the content they consumed. Opinions cannot be objective, coz then they would be facts. We all like and dislike different things. Out personalities, life experiences, mood, everything will influenced how much we enjoy the drama, which makes any assessment not objective.

Review Alice in Borderland Spoiler
Taking into consideration they literally set this whole camp out to beat the games and always took into consideration…
"Find the one who killed Momoka, then burn them in the Fire of Judgement". And they only had 2 hours to do it. With the amount of people they killed, the few psychos could not even put all the bodies in the fire. That's why you don't just kill everyone. 30 minutes before the game ends they had whole building covered in dead bodies, and not enough people to put them in the fire. Also, a lot of people ran out of amo. Literally quoting one of the characters "We killed so many people and still can't find the witch" which, obviously you can't, since the rule said "burn them in fire of judgement" not "shoot them in the head and leave their body wherever". It literally shows the people going around killing did not even care or remember what they were suppose to do to win the game.

Also, the one girl in white shirt literally solved who killed her too, with fingertips from the knife so it was not impossible.

it does matter, if we see it from THEIR perspective. They did not know the girl killed herself, so THEY should do whatever they can to win the game. By killing everyone and NOT putting the bodies in the fire, they literally did not play the game as the rules said. Even if by some imaginary scenerio she did not kill herself, but someone else did, they would still lose the game. Why? Coz even if they killed the killer, they did not burn the body, AS SAID IN THE RULES. The only logical thing for them to do, was to play the game as they rules said, and they did not do that.

They LITERALLY found out she killed herself lol all they would have to do it set her on fire. Saying it's impossible just does not line up with what happened in the show 🤣\

Also, killing everyone led them to no where. They were literally UNABLE to put all the bodies in the fire. They stopped caring about the game and the rules and just went with killing. The rule clearly said it;s not just kill the culprit but place them in the set fire, which they completely ignored, and only later, when they had too many bodies to deal with were like: oops.

Damn i agree with you, i honestly like so yeon so much at first still does now but not the same way from the start,…
I just find it funny how the same behavior from the girls is seen as something to be prised, while for dudes it makes them the biggest trash ever 🤣

I am like that too, Even tho I know that what JiA is doing is not any better than what Jin Taek did (if not worse lol), I still was cheering her up and being like: she needs to teach me some stuff, while I felt angry at Jin Taek hahaha

I dropped Hellbound like 15 minutes in hahaha
but Sweet Home was one of my fav shows.
Tho I would agree, a lot of popular, mainstream shows, while being "good" are elevated to the level of masterpieces, when they are not.

I don't hate-watch—life is too short for that. I hate-recap-read dramas that are too frustrating to continue…
I get bored by reading re-caps coz they are truly just "this happened, that happened" type of content. But I get how curiosity would lead to recap reading, since it's for sure a faster way to get to that ending and getting all the answers :)

i'm too lazy to hate-watch and analyze everything that's wrong about a drama. it's just easier to drop and pour…
For me analysing is fun. And it's not limited to dramas.
For example, when I was watching survival show Kingdom: Legendary War, I didn't just watch performances, after I watched a performance I stopped for a minute and analyzed what I enjoyed and what made it a good performance for me, what things I thought to be flaws and how they could be fixed, if the theme or the story was well presented, if not, how I would go about it. For me, this is fun.

If I see a bad scene in a show, I start to think, how they could have filmed or written it in a different way etc.

**For the enjoyment that comes from criticizing a show and engaging in discussion with people who love it.** -…
hope you don't mean trolling or something like that.
There is a difference between stating your criticism and having fun and civil discussion with someone who has a different view (which I meant in the article), and being a troll.

SO BAD that it's good could be either hate-watching or guilty pleasure. Sometimes these two are not that easy to separate.

I don't hate watch. Last year I tried my hardest to not drop any shows even if I didn't like them. However, I…
Finishing every show, even when you don't like it is truly a waste of time. I don't hate-watch every show I dislike. I drop 90% of shows, and only a few have those mysterious special qualities for me, when the process of hate-watching is actually more fun, and less frustrating. Or rather the frustration is fun.

As for insulting people for different opinion... here's the thing: I see this behavior far more from fans compared to people who dislike the show. I rarely see people who dislike the show reply to people who love it, but leave any negative comment under well loved drama, and you will get 10+ responses how you are wrong, or you are just a troll or a hater. Even if you try to explain in a well mannered way why you dislike it.

Well... I mostly drop too. I rarely hate-watch, but when I do it's a fun and exciting ride 🤣
