I need to mention this that I truly find Mei a great character — very well written, with depth and most of all consistent. The moment she can guess LQQ’s identity, she wants to see him. When she sees him in the spiritual sea and he still refuse to tell her the whole truth, she asked for his location. Why? So that she can test him with the tamarind sweet. And just like that. She knew about his identity. She asked all the right questions and true enough the act of erasing her memories is the biggest clue to his secret since the fact he went all that length to make her forget is something very suspicious.
While her hatred towards War Demon is understandable, all she needs is ONLY one day to gather her thoughts. Her confrontation with LQQ and later reconciliation is what seemed like what a normal functional relationship between couples;
First, voicing out injustice. Second, give time and space to the hurt party to calm down. Third, talks things through and reconcile.
And thats what we got in this episode. 😀😀 A simple solution when both our ML and FL have high EQ that use communication as tools.
Why I said Mei as being consistent? Since that is what she is. Gentle, soft, full of compassion yet when she sees injustice, she will be badass and never holds back. We see it happen again and again in this drama. Despite she is a rebel of the immortal sect, when she sees human paint the immortal sects in bad lights despite they are doing the right thing, she is there to give them her piece of mind. Some poeple might say why it is easy for her to forgive LQQ but that is what her nature is. Remember the bunny demon that she saved? I love the revelation scene! I thought it is well acted and written to give us the underlying problem of the whole thing. The real reason of the memory wipe is to conceal LQQ’s real identity as a war demon. Of course Mei managed to link it all up nicely when she made the deduction as why he has to die with a thousand of cut death even when he is innocent. While its wrong for him to lie, use her for his transformation, erase her memories and concealed his identity, it wasnt black and white as we may like to interpret as we never know his desperation living a condamned life as a war demon. Thats why I love this drama as everything seemed so high stakes.

We have to remember that the blood bond deal is to benefit both of them. She to get free of her curse, while him to stay alive when he’s on the verge of death during his human transformation. He didnt know she will feel pain everytime he did the rituals as he just following an ancient text. Its supposed to be as simple as that as they are not supposed to meet each other again after that. But little that he know that she will avenged him. And little also that he know her killing of Mr Gui will bring her powerful enemies as he only arrived at the capital after that. The case supposed to close when the Emperor instructed it..
I find the writing to be excellent on how they handled the conflict. The harm is not done intentionally but Mei is a catalyst to everything after she met LQQ. He didnt want to hurt her yet he caused her pain which he acknowledged.
And now the main conflict is whether Mei can overlook his identity as a war demon. Her hatred is understandable as she personally withess his clan’s cruelty. But seeing how Mei has high EQ, Im sure she gonna get pass through the prejudice. Thats why we have a war demon as our ML — as he is from a sinned clan, and this drama is about his journey of salvation. So for the FL to see pass through all the prejudice will be part of the main theme of the drama. They both after all a ‘Perfect Match made in Heaven’ like the Chinese title suggested.
Now it made sense why the writer gives us the immortality pills arc so that Mei can see LQQ without any prejudice. In the previois arc, she gets to know LQQ and his ideals unlike the first time they met where she barely knew him. Thats why now she has know him a bit (oh, thats what she thought lol) her impression on him has changed when she picked all the clues and gather what actually happened. It made me lol since Sheng pointed out that she already made the conclusion like LQQ pointed out before when she also do the same with Zongying. However, its pretty obvious now in their next confrontation, Mei will learn that LQQ is a War Demon and while erasing her memory is a problem, the bigger problem that she might find it hard to forgive is when he used her to free from his suffering without her consent — a sinned War Demon who is hated by everyone and caused a lot of suffering in the past. I thought the guy who scam Mei might actually has a gift esp the part where he mentioned arbor tree which refer to LQQ’s name. That part is the reasons that made Mei pause to listen to his fortune reading.
I love the part where it is pointed out how problematic is the immortal sects as we go on with the story. Not only they caused lot of suffering to human but they actually cause the civilazation to stagnant for thousand of years — freaking thousand of years. Shout out to all AMBF references in all of this arc. Like they said, the victors wrote the history so Im not suprised for this to happen also here.
Also, come a true rival that can matched LQQ? He did have this unhinged look in his eyes and the way he lectured Jinlun covers some interesting debate as well. All this immortal people do have all sorts of justification for their heretics behaviours smh. And I hate how they made it sound so convincing as well.
And finally! We figure out LQQ true nature. I believe he is a hybrid between human + war demon? Thats explained a lot of thing with how RJL has been playing him. Sometimes he has this unnatural look in his eyes that he is not human esp when he is in front of his enemies — so ruthless with very unsettling frightening aura. Then another time he appears so human with ideals and made mistakes. I love how this revelation explain a lot of all the things we question about him in all the previous episodes.

The scenes of Su Taiyi giving medicine, money and house all over the place for his shifu had me ugly cry lol. I wasnt ready for that. 😭 Then it ended with the scenes of them from 50 years ago when Su Taiyi told LQQ that ‘he is not allowed to hate him’ was icing on the cake. The whole sequence are amazing. The drama excellently potrayed parent and a child love between LQQ and Su Taiyi. We know that Su Taiyi lets him down when he gone down the immortality pill road by causing so much distress to the citizen and as a parent or teacher, you are dissappinted — that why he asked Su Taiyi to ‘get out’ after failing to reach him. But the love is there after all despite all the dissappintments thats why we see him running, the first time ever we seen him doing that to see Su Taiyi for the last time at the cave.
And LQQ’s words did reached him after all. Su Taiyi knew how much blood he has caused despite his good intentions and let go the immortality pills endouvers in the end. I love their relationship. Its quiet yet contain so much weight.
I also enjoy when Mei run amok with the sect leaders about how much the immortality tax caused damage to the people. I like this side about Mei. She is gentle, soft and earnest yet when its times to do what is right, we see this fierce and badass side from her. I love how she made them calculate how it will take 1000 years for people to own home now as opposed to 10 years before the tax. I really enjoy this duality from our couple just like LQQ as well — extremely ferocious and ruthless against the enemies yet seemed like the most unbothered and laidback dude the other times.
Again, I enjoyed all the social commentaries the writer provide us this episode. Particularly the part of old people committed suicide to avoid being a burden to their children 😢 since thats what happened at China and they are trying to combat that problem. Also the part where people avoid having children since they cant afford it due to high cost of living (even when both parents are working like Mei highlighted) which prompt China government now to give monetery incentives for couples with young children to increase child birth. Im aware that he wanted the thousand cuts punishment for his human transformation. But the officers still corrupted and use straw and cause the dam to broke which killed thosuand of lives. I mean those corrupt official that his wife, the FL kill one by one.

When he uttered this words, I felt it in my heart. Its like what parents would say when they see how far their children has strayed.
He is their father figures and the back story of how he and Su Taiyi started is wonderful. I love how when he attended to his injury, the camera pans to a drawing of a bird feeding its kids which basically foreshadow their relationship in the future.
So, when the plot twist happened when Su Taiyi offered his bones to him, it made complete sense. I love their relationship. And it reminds me of the 2 beggar kids as well — on how they view him as their father. I think LQQ has this natural fatherly figure ability that made people feel attach and drawn to him.
Also when he talked to them, you can feel his wisdom — he is this ancient God that has lived for thousands of years. So the way he sees things are also different. Some people are still greedy and search for immortality while he on the other hands is already tired living.
LQQ is like an onion, every episode, we learnt something new about him. When I realised he is a grey character that probably only do good things because of his own selfish reasons, then we got that scene with Su Taiyi where he lectured him about right and wrong. He is flawed, colorful, unpredictable and enigmatic. I love seeing all this shades of him one by one. And we all know there is more to come later.

There is so much shades of LQQ. Like I said, despite many things that he did appear noble, it might not appear that way like how he helped lil Emperor to the throne. The Emperor said it was using scheme and dirty tricks the way he carry the Emperor to the throne. The Emperor is the 7th son so Im sure it involves blood as well. Also not to mentioned how he turned blind eyes to all the corrupt officials that put him into prison. It seemed his sense of righteousness is not as pure like he just pretend to understand right and wrong but doesnt really feel it in his heart like Mei. Just like how he wiped out Mei’s memories. Aside from wanting to protect her innocence, it is also for his won selfish reasons. Thats what I thought initially. But it certainly change when he lecture Su Taiyi about right and wrong. I love all this different shades of him. He is like onion. With each episode, we knew more layers of his thoughts and personality.

Im so glad I was wrong about LQQ. I thought most of his actions are ‘selfish’ to achieve his goals despite sometimes its might appear as noble but the snippet with Su Taiyi at the end of episode 12 revealed a bigger visions that peeled another layer of him. Now i wonder why he goes all the length to teach Su Taiyi all of this yet seemed detached with other things. I think once he transformed, he will feel and become more human. But so far, I love seeing all of these shades of him since his ruthlessness is quite unsettling esp when he used the same spell to kill all those sect people. It pretty terrifying since he seemed to be almost invisible which is pretty cool.
And regarding Jinlun & Sheng, we used to see love at first sight took place but to have it explained is pretty hilarious. But it made sense why Jinlun is kind of obsessed with Sheng. Like he said, his heart is at peace and its only moved when he sees her. But girl is cold as ice. It will be cute when she is falling in love later as well.
Honourable mention how hilarious is Su Taiyi. He is so unhappy to see another man covet the eyes of his Shifu’s love interest.
I like how we can see many things are brewing at the background right now. It seemed some of the immortal sects are doing some really forbidden stuffs to gain more power.
And I seemed to have a bit suspicion that Su Taiyi didnt really develop the immortality pills. The moment LQQ said there is something fishy about Su Taiye developing the pills when he arrived at Chongking Village, I knew something is up. Su Taiyi developing these pills to cater to the very immortals that he hates, it didnt make sense.
I pretty much enjoy the central theme of the drama which is what to follow: is it rules or your moral?
And while its pretty straightforward to answer, the writer makes us question that theme when she made Mei going on a killing rampage. Yes, Mei likes to help mortals which are good and making her a great character but the writer literally challenged that when she made her seeking justice for Lu Huai thus making the cultivator’s rules about not to interfere with human makes sense since you can never know whats behind each things that you see. Lu Huai staged the whole thing for his human transformation, specifically choosing the worst ever possible death which is death of thousand cuts so he can do one of his transformation while she in the other hand think he truly died being wronged. Hearts are deceptive and she learnt her lesson after that.
It also made the noble idiocy that Lu Huai made of erasing her memories as somehow debatable. Its wrong in all possible count to take that decision away from her but him seeing how broken she is and wanting her:
1) to be idealistic again 2) not to lose her moral 3) continue to help people in need 4) and not just following rules
are worth to explore. Had he didnt wipe Mei’s memories, the mute lady will die in the next episode since Mei will chose to follow the rules instead of helping her with her magic.

I thought most of his actions are ‘selfish’ to achieve his goals despite sometimes its might appear as noble but the snippet with Su Taiyi at the end of episode 12 revealed a bigger visions that peeled another layer of him. Now i wonder why he goes all the length to teach Su Taiyi all of this yet seemed detached with other things. I think once he transformed, he will feel and become more human. But so far, I love seeing all of these shades of him since his ruthlessness is quite unsettling esp when he used the same spell to kill all those sect people. It pretty terrifying since he seemed to be almost invisible which is pretty cool.
And regarding Jinlun & Sheng, we used to see love at first sight took place but to have it explained is pretty hilarious. But it made sense why Jinlun is kind of obsessed with Sheng. Like he said, his heart is at peace and its only moved when he sees her. But girl is cold as ice. It will be cute when she is falling in love later as well.
Honourable mention how hilarious is Su Taiyi. He is so unhappy to see another man covet the eyes of his Shifu’s love interest.
I like how we can see many things are brewing at the background right now. It seemed some of the immortal sects are doing some really forbidden stuffs to gain more power.
And I seemed to have a bit suspicion that Su Taiyi didnt really develop the immortality pills. The moment LQQ said there is something fishy about Su Taiye developing the pills when he arrived at Chongking Village, I knew something is up. Su Taiyi developing these pills to cater to the very immortals that he hates, it didnt make sense.
And while its pretty straightforward to answer, the writer makes us question that theme when she made Mei going on a killing rampage. Yes, Mei likes to help mortals which are good and making her a great character but the writer literally challenged that when she made her seeking justice for Lu Huai thus making the cultivator’s rules about not to interfere with human makes sense since you can never know whats behind each things that you see. Lu Huai staged the whole thing for his human transformation, specifically choosing the worst ever possible death which is death of thousand cuts so he can do one of his transformation while she in the other hand think he truly died being wronged. Hearts are deceptive and she learnt her lesson after that.
It also made the noble idiocy that Lu Huai made of erasing her memories as somehow debatable. Its wrong in all possible count to take that decision away from her but him seeing how broken she is and wanting her:
1) to be idealistic again
2) not to lose her moral
3) continue to help people in need
4) and not just following rules
are worth to explore. Had he didnt wipe Mei’s memories, the mute lady will die in the next episode since Mei will chose to follow the rules instead of helping her with her magic.
Pretty thought provoking and very well written the conflicts so far. I really enjoy it.
