Same here, I don’t find the beginning of this season „slow” (I noticed this kind of opinions). But maybe it’s because I rewatched season 1 in the last days, so I had a really smooth transition to the new episodes.
CX remains the most layered character(my favorite ngl) but I can't help but resent his selfishness when it comes…
At this point he’s getting more and more obsessive and controlling. He’s lost control over his own life and XY is the last thing he selfishly wants for himself, since he lost himself for power and the people to become a good king.
Another thing is, for me he’s not really in love with XY, more in his own fantasy about her. The best example is him always building those swings and planting phoenix trees. That man lives in the past, refusing to recognize real XY. He doesn’t see she’s a grown up person, having her own view on life and desires. Plus let’s add the fact that he didn’t even recognize her back then when she had man’s body (XL and TSJ both quickly realized she was a woman and liked her for who she is from the beginning).
Watching how miserable Cang Xuan was on his wedding day, but clans and citizens were so happy, I can't help but…
That moment was a representation of the result of his decision to become a king. Looks like he has more power when in fact he doesn’t have a freedom at all. He chose to be a ruler sacrificing his own desires. Him being sad is not important to anyone. Most important is that everyone else is happy, even his close people. I’m trurly sorry for him 😢
Now, every time Xiang Liu appears, I always want to cry 😭😭😭 because I see the sorrowful eyes of Xiang…
TJC is outstanding in this role. His performance and coveting emotion only with his eyes leave me sad and speechless every time he shows up on the screen.
The love I have for XL’s character must be thanks to TJC. He was born for this role.
XL singing as an idol is pure fan service. It felt so out of place. I wish they didn't make it sound so studio…
I like the song itself but in this scene it sounded so out of place. They can do it better, like the scene when XY sings, those did not sound so badly.
I’m rewatching Season 1 right now and I’ve just realized that both Xiang Liu and Tushan Jing were most free and themselves when using fake identities 🥲 For them, living with their real identities is some form of curse. The responsibilities and people around are making their lives harder, so for the self preservation they have to act in a ways they don’t like.
At the same time for Xiao Yao and Cang Xuan the crucial part was getting back their identities. Xiao Yao literally got her face back and could be a woman. Cang Xuan, after years of living in hiding, starts to claim his position as a Prince and potential successor.
Not me being so sad watching XL spending time with XY as Fangfeng Bei, being so free, flirty and smiling so much. That’s probably the best time of his life 🥲
