4 seconds is enough to see the plot to know the background of the character and why the character being acted that way? So within 4 seconds you can already see a lot of layers and inner feelings?
You are entitled to your own opinion of course, but for me I judge a good acting based on the character set up which requires several episodes to show. For example looking up the real history behind his character. Zhu Zhanji's character is well explained and shown in history through his paintings and hobby. A lot of people have the impression loud acting with lots of expression = good acting. So people would say Zhu Yawen is a much better actor in portraying Zhu Zhanji. But if you look at the perspective of Zhu Zhanji in real history, he is a peaceful loving, and has quirk of his own, even when handling crisis he is always calm. Based on his paintings subjects and style and his hobbies history has concluded that he is actually a very boring person individually but very talented, firm of himself and brave, the era of his reign shows that. Xu Kai did that nicely with Zhu Zhanji as young prince character set up so far. He is not a man of many words, but stubborn , always in control and witty. If you can see evaluate good acting based on 4 seconds evaluating all of the above then you are not evaluating, you are just watching it for visuals. Which is not a problem but it is still not evaluating objectively to make a conclusion. Historical dramas like this need a more thorough understandings and observations to noticed the dialogue that gave foreshadowing.

The fictional characters are all supporting or extras that wasn't mentioned in the historical records. Their existence can be assumed based on the events that was recorded in the history. But real historical events that was recorded should not be changed or else this drama would not even be allowed to air.
