From 6.5 to 9.5

When I first saw the first 3 episodes i rated this drama 6.5, now after finishing it, it's 9.5.
Give it a try, it's a unique story. We are all stories, and this story is a bit heartbreaking yet it is a good story.
It speaks of love in a very different way, a mother's fear, a father's obsession, a life's work... and so many others aspects of human being humans, yet it shows the extent parents go for their children, how you can hate someone despite loving them, how it feels special to that one person in the whole world.
Thank you for those who gave us this story.

Toxic BL done RIGHT

I wanna start this off by saying this was done so well.
Lu Feng was a red flag, and not one was that glossed over or made out to be something romantic. He was toxic, abusive and violently obsessed, everyone knew it and no one tried to deny that.
I was genuinely worried how they were going to end this on a happy note--but the diagnosis and psychiatrist route was not what I was expecting at all.
You find out over time that Yichen, while being a victim in it most of the time, still loved him regardless. A lot can be said about how this is a dynamic that you see a lot in abusive relationships, but things really changed when he told his brother that he was going to do what he wanted even after all the bullshit Lu Feng put him through.
Bipolar Disorder is no joke, and absolutely does not excuse anything he put Yichen through, but the diagnosis and commitment to treatment ultimately saved their whole relationship. At that point the dynamic kind of switched a bit, Yichen was in control of their relationship, Lu Feng had two options: either get treatment in order for their relationship to succeed, or lose Yichen forever--the one thing that terrified him the most and the biggest trigger of his mood disorder.
I love a good toxic bl, but I *hate* when its glorified as romance and, in my opinion, I think this was done properly.
Ayden and Sitong are brilliant actors.
If anyone keeps up with the bts and various public appearances you know they definitely take care of each other and look after one another, I am just hoping and praying for their safety and sanity.
All in all I was very impressed and I am so looking forward to more from them both.

Support actors and Side story gets more screen time

If you came to watch the story between the main leads, just know they hardly get any screen time.

The story is fine - average. The acting is fine - average. The setting and the location are great. I love the scenes on the tea farm.
But again, the biggest let down is that we hardly get any screen time or real relationship development between the main leads. In episode six I think they genuinely only have 5-7 minutes of screen time for a 45 minute episode. And it's been like this is most of the episodes.

I am disappointed.

a mix of cuteness, toxicity and a lot of emotions

first id like to talk about the cast, they did such a great job esp ayden's performance its so great, a great actor indeed, he portrayed lu feng so well, and Lu Si Tong is such a cutie he is so adorable
the ost is great, an intriguing story which switch from cute to toxic and dark to cute again and give us all type of feelings from giddiness, to sadness, to frustration and anger, to more giddiness from cute scenes
i highly recommend it for people who can handle toxic and dark stories, its better to check the tags and the trailer before watching tho as it can be very triggering

Funny and Lighthearted

Honestly, the summary doesn’t do it justice. It's funny, light-hearted, and a great watch after a long day when your boss won't leave you alone.
The two have great chemistry and I enjoyed watching people give back to the community even if it's fake for a storyline. I feel as if giving is restricted to the holiday season in the US and it shouldn't be (if you can afford it.)
Also, I've never seen a doctor with that much free time. But it's also impossible to find a doctor in a hospital so there is that....

Too Many Plot Problems to Score Higher

Idk what universe patients are allowed to be halfway into the OR and if that isn't enough how is someone with an ethical question allowed to practice on that patient? Does China not have HIPPA? Also, how does a board certified Obgyn end up as a physical therapist? I have so many plot-related questions. But I might run out of space, so I'm choosing to move on. I can honestly say that I never thought of this pairing and was pleasantly surprised by the electricity of it.

Finally Something New!

I'm currently sitting at my screen smiling like an idiot. Yes, this was "technically" a revenge drama but it was more than that. It was a story about a girl who had her first (and purest) love betrayed and broken, only to be followed by the death of her mother whom she had left on bad terms because of that first love. I like that they story doesnt dwell on it but focus on her healing journey, from pioneering a life saving cardiac device to healing and opening her heart again. I'm glad the grandmother didnt put up with her son's shenanigans and chose to wait for her more ethical grandson to come into his own. The FL spent a decade maintaining and building their company and the father-son duo did not hesitate to kill her mother.
To the FL and 2FL: ladies you dodged a nuclear warhead.
To Cdrama Writers: this was great. don't. touch. it. we dont need 20 remakes of the same thing. Find new material. If you really can't find anything else on the entire internet *I* will write something for you. I should comment that I generally write children's books and fanfiction but I would make an exception.

Beautiful and Moving Romance across multiple lifetimes.

Subjective Gut Rating: 8.25

Is “Love Upon a Time” the next “I Feel You Linger in the Air” that I am searching for? Close but not quite. It’s hard to find a good historical Thai BL that I like because I want something serious without too much comedy and overdramatic acting. “Love Upon a Time” was close but it didn’t quite hit the mark, especially with the execution and storytelling of the mystery.

Romance
I really like the main romance and that’s what kept me interested throughout the drama. I feel that it was developed naturally and at a good pace. It’s pretty clear from the get-go how the handsome green flag Phop feels about Klao. Even when he was stern, you can tell from Net’s beautiful big eyes the affection he has for Klao. This is my first drama of Net as a main character, and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised. The care, concern and affection he showered on Klao throughout the whole drama is what we want from a romantic lead. The romance hit the highest point for me in episode 7 when emotions and stakes are high. I love their emotional heart-to-heart conversation under the moonlight at the corn field so much that I was inspired to write my first episode review. Their kisses were lovely, so gentle yet passionate. The NC scene was beautiful and sensual. Add to the fact that Phop asked for consent! How sexy is that?? If you are a romance-lover like me, you will be satisfied with this main romance and all the shirtless scenes that Net has.

Secondary Romance
Their story is actually very interesting as it ties to their past and present lives. I enjoy seeing that connection. However, I think the execution could be better with better distribution of screen time.. I was having a little hard time getting into their story because Kaew’s hairstyle in the first third of the drama bothers me. I know it’s petty but having his hair all gelled up is not a good look for him. Additionally, Latte’s acting as Jom is the weakest of the group. He was better as college student Thi, then esteemed physician Jom.

Acting
As I mentioned earlier, Net really surprised me. I am so in love with him! JJ on the other was not bad but his facial expressions tend to be quite drama during some scenes (even non-comedic wise). Is that how he was directed to emote? Or was it him? I am also watching him in “The Next Prince” now, and his portrayal there is a lot more natural. Kim did a pretty good job as the more effeminate Kaew. I am not sure if he’s like that in real life, but he’s more girl, gentle and feminine than I am! Latte, on the other hand, is having a hard time being the stoic and esteemed physician. His expressions often feel uncomfortable and hesitant. But as the college kid, Thi, he seems to be back in his element. The rest of the supporting cast all did a pretty good job. I was especially glad to not see any overdramatic, gossipy and boisterous servants, who seem to be a mainstay in many period Thai dramas.

Fantasy/Mystery
I think the drama gave us a decent explanation of the fantasy. At least, I understand what happened and can believe in the reasoning they gave me. This is not always the case with fantasy drama, so for that, I think “Love Upon a Time” should satisfy most viewers. The drama does use an interesting angle to explain the fantasy and reincarnation theme through the lecturer of a time-traveling class. This could be a fun course to take in college! However, the mystery investigation was unable to hold my attention. Maybe because I love the main romance so much that I didn’t really care who killed who, and who’s corrupted. I just want to find out what happened to Klao, and that’s it. This could be a “me” problem or could be the writing.

Production
I love the production. I especially enjoy the use of natural lighting, just lanterns, candles and moonlight, without artificial bright white light. The costumes are beautiful for the men and women. The fight scenes are better than the shooting scenes. Seeing a topless Net fight is a beautiful sight.

Overall, I had a good time watching “Love Upon a Time”. I was also glad it gave us sufficient time back in the present timeline to close out the drama and tie up loose ends. The ending was not rushed and did not leave us with more questions than answers, like “I Feel You Linger in the Air”. The overall acting is not bad, even if it’s not excellent. I will recommend this if you are interested in checking out a period Thai BL with a strong romance focus.

The Most Enjoyable the Drama in the first half of 2026

This drama is fun and unserious. It's a slapstick but will still leave you with a warm and fuzzy feeling afterwards.
I have a lot of favorite scenes but I don't wanna give any spoiler here (to anyone who hasn't seen it). The story flow has a bit of slow down, specially the part when they were figuring out how to use their superpowers. There were a lot of lengthy dialogues but once past that you're in for a ride.
The chemistry between the superheroes are undeniably palpable. These are actors handpicked by the director so he knows exactly who will suit each character. Park Eunbin is as always phenomenal. She has great comedic timing and can deliver an emotional acting exceptionally well. Cha Eunwoo, though not on par with Park Eunbin in acting skill, held his own. The other two delivered their characters well too, specially Im Sungjae.
Overall, this drama is fun watch, nothing too profund. Just relax, bring out the snacks, and enjoy the ride from start to finish.

The Wonderfools is a fun and surprisingly heartfelt superhero drama that blends nostalgia, comedy, action, and family relationships into an entertaining package.
From the opening episode, the drama immediately captures attention with its cool late 90s atmosphere. They opened it with banger song by Radiohead?!! I was sold.
The homage to Guardians of the Galaxy was a fun surprise. The CGI effects are on par with many Hollywood productions and never feel out of place IMO. It can feel dark at times but it pulls you back to comedy. It's just unserious lol!
The acting chemistry between the cast was great as well, plus Chaeni and her grandma.
Park Eunbin, the master in acting, I don't even need to elaborate. It's no longer surprising. I just watched her in awe. She was so nimble switching from comedy to melo drama and she takes me with her with those emotional change outs. Her body acting was so GREAT as well, her teleporation and the lifeless body acting was so good it was creepy.
Cha Eunwoo played the stoic character well. His acting complimented with the highly energetic trio. Director Yoo Insik is known for bringing out the best of his actors regardless of skill level. And I see it here, CEW went from weak (previous works) to decent acting, although his tone is still kinda of flat. He needs to work on that next.

It's not a perfect drama, it definitely has its flaws but the good stuffs in it outweighed the flaws so I only want to highlight things that I like about it.

Yi Chen was toxic as well

First of all, I would like to apologize to my 15-year-old self for reading the novel and watching the movie back in 2018. 😭😭🙏🙏

Even though I already knew all the entire story beforehand, I genuinely enjoyed the psychological suffering while watching it.

Although the acting in the movie was indeed good, the actors in the drama truly outdid themselves. Their performances were outstanding.

While I won't deny that Lu Feng's character was genuinely toxic and extremely toxic at times, I would also like to point out that Yi Chen was equally toxic.

On many occasions, he avoided explaining his situation to Lu Feng despite knowing that Lu Feng was an impulsive, hot-tempered, and emotionally unstable person. Even though he knew exactly how Luo Fang would react, he still chose to stay silent.

What frustrated me the most was that Yi Chen always seemed to choose other people over Lu Feng. Meanwhile, Lu Feng literally chose Yi Chen over everyone else. He gave up his name, his family, and his inheritance. He turned his back on his father, who was on the verge of death, and on his sister, who loved him dearly.

But for what?

In the end, Yi Chen would always choose others first. What bothered me even more was that he chose others over himself as well. Because if he had chosen himself even once, he would have chosen to stay with Lu Feng. 💔😭
This does not excuse the many unforgivable things that Lu Feng did to Yi Chen. However, what makes the story so tragic is that I actually witnessed Lu Feng's transformation from a genuinely kind person and an almost perfect boyfriend a complete green flag who stood by his partner through every hardship and was never afraid to be proud of his love into a black flag who literally became a kidnapper and a r@pist.

Watching that downfall was heartbreaking because he wasn't introduced as a bad person from the start. He gradually turned into someone completely different, consumed by his obsession, jealousy, and desperation.

lots of fluff/sexy scenes and angst is resolved quickly

I really enjoyed it and binged watched all 10 episodes. It's been a while since I've watched bls so it was a really nice welcome back. Loved the main couple and the side couple was also cute. Unexpected when it became supernatural, but overall a fun experience would recommend if you like the soul swapping troupe (struggling orphan kid to billionaire heir).

At a Certain Point, This Shouldn't Even Be Considered a "Toxic Relationship"

I'll try to be as objective as possible when writing this review but I gotta admit it was a hard one to watch. And I'll cut it short because tbf there is not much to say about this series:

(This review contains heavy spoilers bear that in mind!!)

I'm gonna start with the script bc that's the only thing we should talk about this series. This story was so bad that after one point I was like "What am I watching ? Why am I watching This ?". Even from the beginning, the extensive homophobia literally made my blood run cold. Yes, it is actually very common thing to happen in real life to most of us Queers; but on the other hand as the events develop, the amount of choices that have been made regarding the homophobia they encountered is so bitter to watch and from my point of wiew, nearly unacceptable. Doen't matter how much you love your parents/friends/family, a person should always choose themselves if it comes to either them or yourself. I know saying this may sound selfish or inconsiderate, but as someone who encountered something very similar to this, I truly believe this is the only healthy choice for both parties.

Then the second main subject of this show comes before us: Obsession to the point of a person loses their mind. Even now as I am writing this review, it still sounds insane. literally insane. After the mother of Yi Chen dies, our character cuts off his communication with his brother, decides to stay married to the woman he does not love and goes into hiding. I was okay with all these decisions. Then there is a time jump of 5 years and we see the couple moved on, healed and ready to divorce to build a better life which was sweet. But then, (this is the moment this show goes to down hill . Or may I say, sorry for my vulgar language, straight up bullshit) our masochistic Lead Yi Chen decides to contact his Ex-boyfriend Lu Feng who caused so much pain to him before. And then after encountering him, he becomes a captive of his lunatic ex. Watching those episodes was very hard I have to tell. I couldn't watch some of the "sex" scenes because of how painful it is. The show doesn't say how long Yi Chen was captured (I think in one scene Yi Chens's brother and his bf talks about how they couldn't find him for a couple of months but I am not sure what events that time period contains) but we could tell it was quite long because by the end of it, the actor literally looked like he lost half of his weight.

Anyways, after everything he's been through, Yi Chen decides to be with Lu Feng once again which while I was watching that scene, I audibly laughed. that moment, I lost my very little remaining sympathy that I had towards Yi Chen. Yes, on the last episode we learn why Lu Feng acted this way and I admit discovering his condition softens some things a little but for me the main issue was not him but how Yi Chen kept coming back to Lu Feng. This is not love. The only sick one was not Lu Feng. Seeing a person wasted away like this was very sad. I wanted to talk about how the story was written badly in and on itself rather than pointing out its illogical and/or inconsistent sides because this story is very bitter and moving and I felt it should be approached emotionally to talk about it. Some of you may find this boring or think this is not a review and I respect that. I am avare that my review looks like it goes over the story mixed with my comments and I am sorry for that but as I just said, I didn't feel right to approach this any other way.

I have no comments on the music. I personally not a fan of how chinese BLs uses music but it was okay for me for this piece. The production quality was top notch. The actors literally carried everything and made this story watchable. That's all I'm gonna say about this show I think. I don't know if it's stupid to put this at the end of the review, but people who struggle with mild mental illness should NOT watch this series.

PS: I know I said I'll cut it short at the beginning but ended up writing a whole ass essay so I'm sorry lol please bear it with me.
